The craft beer selection is probably the best in the City, with the exception of Brother’s Beer Bistro and it might rival them. Always something different, from many local and provincial breweries. The food is decent — wings are very good, burgers are a little dry and the buns should be toasted(otherwise very stale) but on Monday’s they’re $ 6 off so it’s a good price. The service, however, is terrible. We’ve gone about 5 weeks in a row now and the bartender, Bobby, is one of the last friendly people I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant/pub. I’d give it a 4 — 4.5 if it wasn’t for him.

Nice little pub-like place to go. Bison chili is GF and delicious, also plenty of craft beers on tap. Food was served pretty quickly as well. Server was nice and came around enough

Make no mistake about it, the Arrow and the Loon is not for everyone. Some may enjoy this establishment quite a bit — others not so much. It really depends on what you’re looking for. This is a quirky place for the Glebe. It’s not pretentious or anything, but it is indeed original. I would call it a neighbourhood pub that happens to be in a major tourist area. The décor is cozy. A bit run down, but not dirty or anything along those lines. You can tell it’s a well-used bar. Along with the character, you know you’re in a real bar when you look at what they have on-tap. Almost everything is craft brewed. Most are from around Ontario, so you’re going to find Beau’s, Ashton Brewing Company, Beyond the Pale, River City etc. If you don’t know what most of those breweries are, you’re either in the wrong place, or you’re going to be very happy once you taste them. The food is… meh. I only ate there once, so I will reserve judgement for the second time around. If you’re looking for a place with character(and a huge patio in the summer) give this place a try. If you’re looking for a more corporate/chain type of pub, you should keep looking.

I have been here a couple of times for beer(a friend of mine works in the building) and I am always impressed by their beer menu. They usually have at least a dozen microbrews on tap as well as rotating cask and any place that serves a lot of local beer gets mucho brownie points in my books! The service is very friendly and it has the feel of a locals place so it is quite welcoming, they also have a nice patio. As for food, I went there for a pig roast event they had which was sponsored by Muskoka Brewery, for $ 15.00 you got as much pig as you could eat as well as potato salad, cole slaw, & corn on the cob. Also included in that deal was a pint of Muskoka beer, of which they have 5 different kinds on draught! The event was really well organized, so there was never really a problem with lines despite the place being packed. Overall, a great pub with great beer and judging by other reviews they have great deals on other food.

Right up front, this is not the place to go out for a wild night. It’s a fairly quiet pub in the Glebe with a nice patio in the summertime situated in a little strip mall at the corner of Bank and Fifth. What it does have, though, is one of the best selections of craft beer on tap in the city. Arrow and Loon has a rotating cask as well as featured kegs and their standard selection is pretty solid. The food is nothing amazing, but everything is good(much better than Heart and Crown, probably close to on-par with Royal Oak) and on Wednesdays the whole menu is half-off and they do have a wing night and pretty good wings. When we’ve been served by the bartender we typically see the service has always been great, but the service staff apart from him is hit-and-miss. Even so, for us this a great place for a casual evening out or for drinks and conversation.

It’s a local pub and sports bar. My friend tells me there’s been some work to the place but it looks like any typical sports bar/pub does. We normally come here for wing night as they’re pretty damn cheap. They’re not the greatest but an awesome way to fill a craving at a solid price. The patio is pretty cool in the summer and they have a lot of seating inside… including what looked like a patio that lead into the building that it’s a part of. There is a solid selection of beer and the wait staff is OK. Don’t expect anything exceptional here and realistically I’d stick to the pub fare as it’s a run of the mill local pub but I’d definitely come back for wing night.

The Thai Chicken Wrap and the Third Ave Chicken Burger were really disappointing. Barely any flavour in either. The service was OK but my friend was first told that a substitution was ok. This was then refused by the kitchen. Not going back.

We went here for lunch yesterday, and I’m glad we did. We ordered 2 flights, the Greek salad, and the chicken pesto pizza, all to share. Though I did not like a large portion of the beers we tried, the waitress was great with the flights. She gave us her opinion and was more than happy to bring us all of the samplers we ordered. Once it became clear that we were ordering to try new things, she also started telling us about all of the beers that weren’t on the printed menu, which I really appreciated. The Greek salad was nothing to write home about, but the chicken pesto pizza was pretty damn good. They put onions on there but don’t tell you that on the menu, so we were stuck with those. Other than that, though, it was great. I’m sure we’ll be back if we’ve got time.

I’ve never been wowed by this place. The food is alright and their breakfast is hardy and reasonably priced but I think for me it’s always been the service that doesn’t do it. For instance during the Great Glebe Garage Sale they seemed woefully unprepared when they opened and they were surprisingly not that busy. The food took a long time and a mistake was made on the order. I’ve gone other times, including later in the evening for just apps and beers with friends and also found that the patio tables can give you a surprise when they rock and tilt your beer around. They needed either better tables or to make the base of the sidewalk patio more even! I’ve never say inside but the bar area is nice and they have large TVs to accommodate groups or anyone who is there to watch a game. If the service has improved I may give this place a second chance but really only if I’m in the area and wouldn’t step out of my way to find it.

If you’re in the Glebe with a large group of people looking for good food and a great beer selection, just stop at the Arrow and the Loon. They have an enormous seating area, including a section by the bar, a larger section beyond the bar, an outdoor patio and another patio in the mall. The food is delicious and moderately priced with large servings. My favourite item to order is their Nicholas K burger, which is made with mango, goat cheese, spinach, tomato and honey mustard sauce. Get that with an order of their delicious poutine and you’re in heaven. If you go on Mondays between 5pm and 8pm, burgers are two for one with the purchase of a drink. They also have a really delicious cider and St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale on tap. Other offerings include $ 4 breakfast from 8−11am, free jazz on Sundays and delivery within the neighbourhood.

Located on the sunny side of Fifth Avenue in the heart of the Glebe, the Arrown and the Loon is a great neighbourhood pub. It offers all the pub grub a good pub should offer(wings, burgers, nachos) plus lots of good beers on tap. The Arrown and the Loon is different from your usual in a number of ways. First, it delivers! Okay, only the food. You ain’t getting a pint of Stellas delivered to your door any time soon. However, they only deliver to residences in the neighbourhood, so don’t be calling from Kanata. The other difference is the owner — Mr. Khalil. He is the heart and soul of this pub. He is as genuine and good-hearted an individual that you are likely to meet. I had the pleasure of talking to him one afternoon as I stopped by for a drink. We had a great chat about his adventures coming to Canada with nothing and building this great establishment. If you see a guy at the Arrow and the Loon slightly older and slightly less hot than the wait staff, it is probably him. Do yourself a favour and say hi.
