Horrible service Horrible Staff Worst Bartender in BC would be Cris. Spend your hard earned money else where. Where its apreciated. Bringing Surrey Style owners to POCO ruined it. Local my ass, Go to the Cat and Fiddle instead

Really, really don’t like giving low stars, but had an ‘experience’ at this spot. Was having a great day testing out the boat on the lake. Worked up a thirst and an appetite. I don’t know the area, so used Unilocal to go to Sam’s. Had a pint and started chatting and luckily we had a lot to catching up to do, as it must have been half an hour before I was informed there was a mix up with my burger. Waited another fair bit before my buddy’s burger arrived, and I was informed mine was still coming and on the house, which was a nice gesture. Thanks! To be clear: once we got our burgers they were bloody excellent. The place is a happening spot. However, they took way too long in addressing the situation. If my day had been different, and I had been on a schedule, I would been ‘lunched.’

The waitress(Kristine) was great when we first walked and ordered a drink but after that she was sooooo rude. She seemed very preoccupied by something. It took awhile to get drinks, we had to as the hostess to put our order in to get a drink. The dinner we had(pasta night) was great. We usually go to another local bar but heard that the pasta was good. Just wish we had a better experience here.

Got a great variety of selection of food to order, and everything I’ve tried on the menu is made very well. But the best thing are their daily specials. You can’t go wrong with $ 1 tacos and all you can eat pasta!

Sorry all you ‘nay Sayers’ I love this place. On my first few visits the food needed work… especially the soups but there have been massive improvements ! I find the staff excellent, the food consistent and the manager, Amanda, awesome ! I go frequently for the lunch special which is excellent for price, volume and quality ! If you had a bad experience in the past give it another chance… it really is improved dramatically ! Visited today(Aug 5)…it was delicious ! Second time this week. The soup and sandwich cannot be beat… for quality or price ! Excellent corn and chicken soup accompanied by a very flavourful whole sandwich. I tour pubs weekly and I have to say, this is a favourite ! Great staff and the manager Amanda is open to listening to suggestions… even criticism…(we asked about simple dry ribs, not spiced)…and so attentive ! Another reason we chose to eat here… the ambiance is casual and comfortable without having music blaring making you end up shouting ! If you are a sports fan… you can follow them on TV from every seat.

Happy hour apps were all we ate while we drank a regrettable amount of beer. I do remember that the cheese sticks were the greatest, and the wings, although only mediocre, were cheap and plentiful. Skip the chili bites. The staff was friendly and the bar seems like a great place to watch sports, although the only sport that was on was poker and is that really a sport? I rate this bar 4 cheese sticks out of 5. I mean, 4 stars… get the cheese sticks.

Beer selection is small and domestic. The half priced appy’s are surprisingly decent sized for the price. We got 15 wings for $ 4.99. That’s rare. Suicide wings were spicy and tangy, not stupid hot and lacking flavour, the flavour was actually very enjoyable. Service got better by drink number 2, and the food came out fast and hot. Steak bites were also very good. Not overdone and rubbery, but juicy and flavourful. We didn’t have the old grouchy server with clothes too small for her… We had a young and polite girl.

We just moved in to the neighborhood and want to start supporting the local restos and shops. Samz looked good from the outside but unfortunately the food was not that great. We started well with the mini yorkies which was tiny yorkshire pudding with roast beef and horseradish aioli and, dip. It was downhill from there though. The reuben needed more meat and the breading on the fish(and chips) was too thick. And they didn’t have malt vinegar. We won’t be frequenting this pub much.

This is the worse pub in Port Coquitlam. The atmosphere is boring, the food is average. The older server that wears clothes far to tight and young for her age is the most miserable/rudest person we have ever come across in this industry. She clearly doesn’t like her job and needs to go on the tv show«What Not To Wear». The Burke, Orange, Cat & Fiddle are far better pubs to spend time at. They all have polite servers that enjoy there jobs and are happy to serve you. They don’t slam your drinks down on the table and scowl at you. The management at Sam’s needs to replace the old nasty miserable server they have working for them now because she is hurting business.!!

I have been here dozens of times and have almost never been disappointed. The staff are always attentive and the food is consistently delicious. The daily specials are always convenient with those beers after work on a weekday.

I didn’t eat in Samz, but I did order takeout. Even though I enjoyed what I had ordered, my bf was disappointed with his meal, that’s why the 3 stars. The guy who took our order over the phone was really nice and the wait time of 20 mins wasn’t too bad. When I got to Samz, the guy behind the bar knew I was there to just pick up food. I’m going to say he took my order! I ordered the Buffalo Burger. That was good. Just the right amount of hot sauce. My bf had gotten the Chipotle Chicken Burger. Unfortunatley, there was barley any Chipotle mayo and he had to add his own sauce to the burger He was greatly disappointed that they didn’t give a generous slathering of the mayo. We both had the cesar salad with our burgers. I personally felt there was a bit too much cesar dressing. The look of the pub was really nice. It wasn’t packed for a Sunday night, but it was full. One day I’d like to try eating there instead of take out. It was a good alternative option that was close by and in the city center.

4 stars might be a bit overrated, but I would have to say that everytime I go here I have a positive experience. It’s more than decent; It’s not pretentious or crusty like some«other» places in the area. It’s a proper pub with a balanced atmosphere. Prices are a bit high for what you get, but this isn’t the USA or Mexico, is it?

I want to like Samz a lot. In downtown PoCo, there aren’t a lot of options that aren’t Earl’s. I’ve been a half dozen times or so since moving here a year ago and thought it was okay. I never found the kitchen tried especially hard most of the time, and although pricey if not on sale, wasn’t bad. But the other night I met some prospective clients there and one of them said«These are the worst wings I’ve ever had. Way overdone.» I knew we weren’t in for 5 stars, but that’s not the kind of impression I want to leave on my guests so won’t be back unless it’s with buddies for a game and no one cares about wallets or quality.

I often go here with friends on sundays to watch the football game. Great drink specials, food deals and service. ½ off appies all day! Brunch menu is also very good, tried much of the menu and it is also great. Never had a problem with the food. Many good TV’s in different locations and the waitress will change it to my team if I ask. Great friendly neighbourhood pub.

Wasn’t happy with the service tonight. Sorry my wife isn’t drinking. No reason for ignoring us all night. The wor wonton soup was boiled to death and the shrimp was too old. Not happy here tonight.

We go every Friday and Saturday night, never had a bad time. We usually go as a larger group, and though they don’t take reservations, they have always been super accommodating to our parties(which are sometimes +20). Staff is always friendly, knows our names, and solves any possible issues without a hassle. I have seen people being cut off before, but that’s because they’ve had too much to drink, not because they needed to clear tables. 5 stars for the extra concern for their patrons!

Went to Samz tonight because of a coupon in the entertainment book that stated«50% off your purchase.» Awesome, because I had a friend in town and 50% off a meal sounded perfect. We ordered, and the waitress actually scoffed at what I chose to order. The food came, and my friend asked for a lemon for his salad. It took nearly ten minutes for him to get it. But the real issue was when the bill came. The 50% off had only been taken off of one entrée. I asked the waitress about it and she said that the discount only applied on one item. I asked if the coupon had said that(I am 99.9% sure it didn’t, and my friend remembered it the same way). She said that yes, it did, and then walked away. I will NEVER be back.

I am really disappointed that I have to post a review like this, because I would rather praise a place than to bring it down, but Samz is a place I will never visit again(which is a shame because I live around the corner and it’s easy to get to). My girlfriend and I had gone to Samz a few times for dinner and drinks and had liked the convenience of easily living within walking distance. We went one Saturday night around 5:00PM(had usually visited on week nights when it was pretty dead), had a couple of appetizers and a full dinner along with drinks and a couple of shooters. Our bill was somewhere around $ 110 when we were asked to leave for being too intoxicated! Now, I understand if people are getting rowdy and are on the edge of throwing up or something along those lines, but we were told by a waitress that it was decided that we had too much and that my girlfriend was a ‘mess’ and was ‘passed out’ in her chair(we were sitting almost directly in a chair under a big screen TV and my girlfriend was slouched down trying to watch a Cricket game while I was in the washroom). Well, with food costs of about $ 60 and another $ 50 in drinks(at an average of $ 5 — $ 6 each, over the course of about 4 hours) that we weren’t allowed to order anymore. The strange part about this is that we had done this before when the restaurant was dead on a weekend, and no one ever complained(nor should they have as we are nice people and have never been overly intoxicated at any time there). I had no problem paying and leaving, but I did let them know I disagreed with their position on the matter(the waitress who was serving us agreed whole-heartedly and said she tried to convince the manager that we weren’t that intoxicated), and left no tip as a result(at which time I was told the waitress was on the hook for 5 percent of the bill if there was no tip, which is pretty bizarre in and of itself). We stated that«You can even ask the guys across from us if we are too intoxicated» and we were told they were being cut off too, along with a number of other patrons in the place. The Saturday night we were asked to leave(along with a fair few other people), there was a lineup outside, which considering everything, leads me to my own opinion that this establishment likes to ensure themselves the biggest tips by removing people who are slowing down(people who are drinking more leisurely) and replace them with people in the line who are more likely to drink at a faster pace and rack up larger bills(I also think we were at a 4 person table even though there were only two of us). I am not saying this is the case for a fact, but considering everything, my suspicions are raised. It seems a bit dubious(and it also felt surreal and embarrassing when asked to leave, especially when being accused of something so astoundingly incorrect). The food is about average for a pub, and the waitress we had was really quite pleasant(and told us that we were a really nice couple that she remembered being in there a number of times and that we tipped very well usually). The atmosphere was alright, but I can’t justify going back until there is a complete change around of staff. We ended up going to the Cat and Fiddle not too far away and had a great time the rest of the night with no hassle, great conversations and a bunch of laughs. Check it out instead of Samz — You won’t be disappointed.
