Dinner at Le Bouchon du Pied Bleu was like pulling up a chair at a table of a good French friend who is an amazing cook! I knew it was going to be a good night when they offered us a complimentary shot of apple liquor as an apéritif to start. Our waiter and chef explained the evening’s menu to us. We decided to choose our mains as beef stomach($ 25) and blood sausages($ 21) and then add an appetizer and salads for an additional $ 13/person. We kept it simple with a few glasses of the red house wine($ 7). The French feast started with 3 cold house made salads served family style at our table, and then followed by an another 3 cold salads! Yes, a total of 6 salads in total. I loved the apple beet salad and there were a couple of grain salads and one with pineapple and a zippy dressing. All delicious. I may have overindulged on salads. We then moved on to appetizers — the house cured charcuterie plate and a sausage wrapped lovingly in a delicious freshly toasted brioche. Our mains were served with a side of scalloped potatoes and fresh grilled veggies. Main portions were pretty generous… I think we could have shared one. I really enjoyed the beef stomach in tomato sauce. The tripe was super tender and well flavoured. After dinner, our server brought us a rack of various liquor bottles for digestif and left us to our devices and $ 5 shots. A dangerous challenge. Definitely did not have room for dessert but consider it for a moment when we saw it set up near the cash as a small buffet including crème caramel, fresh made pies, cookies, and other goodies.

This is everything that’s the best about Quebec. Go here. Sit at one of the communal tables and share the big salads and meat platters and massive cheese boards that are brought to you by the friendly and cool staff and chefs. They prepare one pig a week and serve you their homemade cured meats which are crazy good. Amazing wine list, just everything about this experience is my favourite, I love that an entire family is working together to bring this warmth and deliciousness to St Roch. Can’t wait to go back.

if you want truly traditional french food, like farm in the south of France-style, go here. especially on a cold day. nothing could be more filling or more comforting. salads and couscous are also delicious for the lighter side. the boudin noir was being made when we arrived and tasted incredible. if you are a fan, you will rank it among your favorites outside of Europe.
