Cute little café, has a nice outdoor terrace too but its closed for winter right now. We were seated quickly and had super friendly service, I am Anglophone and the waitress did her best to help me out which was a nice touch. I had the croque-monsieur which was really good, really fresh ingredients and yummy fries/salad on the side. Very good sized meal and decent prices. I only had water(constant refills by the waitress which is a nice touch), but my GF had a latte which she said was awesome. I will definitely return!

I went for brunch with my mom and bro. Good food at a fair price, and excellent coffee(espresso, café au lait or cappuccino are optional, and for the same price. Getting you food takes time, and if you’re not too hungry, wait out for a table on the patio. It’s good for people watching.

I travel a lot for my work as a touring musician, and am very accustomed to eating alone in many settings. I have discovered some wonderful places and expected no less in beautiful Quebec City. This trip, I chose Café Kreighoff as it has lots of small tables inside and seems like a good place to read/eat. But it was really disappointing. Over-cooked and super salty food and the fact I seemed to be invisible. Not sure why I returned for a second meal, but on tonight’s visit, they absolutely forgot about me, so it took 90 minutes to get my meal. The sweaty waitress apologized profusely and took the saline soup off the bill as a gesture of recognition, but it was still expensive and a discouraging experience. I gave the poor dear a decent tip as I don’t think the low standards originate with her. I’ll admit that the coffee was excellent on each visit and I also soothed my ruffled feathers with a piece of fridge-favoured carrot cake and just as I crammed a mammoth forkful into my mouth and we approached the 2 hour mark of sitting on my butt in this dim dive, another waitress chose that exact moment to ask if everything was good. I gurgled and flailed my fork and that was the end of that. I will never ever go back to this dismal restaurant. And they will never notice.

We went to this place yesterday and the food was a great disappointment although the service was very good. The French onion soup that my father had was so salty that he has added two pots of hot water and it’s still not edible. We told the waiter, and he just took it away didn’t do anything about it. Maybe he thinks we are tourists and just ignore us.

I went to this place many time over the last 25 years but the last few time were so bad in food and service I would not recommend it anymore. We had a very dry meat pie that was presented as if it was drop before hitting the plate. The chef quiche was ordinary. The waitress was absent at best. We went on a normally busy lunch hour and the place was empty… Not a good sign. I will not go back.

Café Krieghoff is a mandatory stop for me whenever I’m in Québec city. I traveled back and forth for 6 months between Montréal and Quebec city for work, tried many hotels and ate in so many restaurants, and I always go back to this place without hesitation. Ultra clean and cozy rooms, excellent fresh meals in the café and very friendly staff. Breakfast is included in the hotel stay, make sure you pick an eggs Benedict and have a cup of their excellent home coffee.

Great crepes and bowls of coffee. My boyfriend ordered Eggs Benedict made with a specific kind of Quebec mushroom(a word I hadn’t recignized on the French menu). We came on a weekend and weren’t rushed. Nice spot.

Meh. Long wait for service on a Friday morning. Breakfast was nice, but nothing special. Very slow service, even though the place wasn’t busy. Nice, but don’t go out of your way.

Poor quality ingredients in two sandwich plates we ordered, cold food and a $ 2.00 surcharge for an extra plate. You can do much better than this in Quebec City. What was once a great place appears to have become a tourist trap. Don’t bother.

I learned how to make a delicious Croque Monsieur(think grilled ham and cheese smothered in cheese sauce) from Ina Garten(via the Food Network). Unfortunately, usually after making it, I can barely stomach it knowing how just how much butter, Gruyère, and Parmesan are involved… While in Quebec City, I convinced myself that the Croque Monsieur at Café Krieghoff couldn’t be nearly so bad for me as Ina’s recipe. It probably wasn’t, but it also wasn’t nearly as good. Aside from the okay/not worth the calories sandwich, everything else(atmosphere, service, etc.) was also just okay. If you are looking for a delicious Croque Monsieur, look elsewhere.

Great place to sit on the patio if out shopping along Rue Cartier. Frommer’s recommended it, and the burgers and sandwiches were great. Nothing special from an atmosphere standpoint, just a patio diner-type spot with solid breakfast and lunch.
