Had a late night dinner at bistro b, not really wowed. Ordered the tuna app as well as the mixed mushrooms(which were super delightful, lots of garlic and parsley!). For mains: duck and venison, the waitress made sure to state the dishes would come out rare, sadly not the case all was over cooked including the roots veggies :-(

We had high hopes for this place. The décor is lovely and it’s situated on a fun little street away from the tourist area. We came for brunch and even though we’d return for dinner but it was just disappointing. The pulled pork in the pulled port grilled cheese was flavourless. It was more like boiled shredded pork. The pain perdu was better in flavour but the portion size was minuscule. What really turned us off was the waitress. She seemed very condescending towards us. She looked exasperated while engaged with us and felt the need to say she would«translate» the menu. I’m not sure what she was translating. Everything was pretty recognizable and we never asked for assistance. Shame really.

Limited vegetarian options, but food was beautifully presented and well prepared. The resto is definitely casual. Notwithstanding the restaurant listing, jackets are definitely not required.

Atmosphere was ok. Nothing to really look forward to. Our appetizer was really good but the main course was mediocre at best. Not worth anywhere near what the price point is. To expensive for a mere«nothing spectacular» type of meal. The staff was nice, and friendly but it’s more of a place to be seen at as the hip chic place to have a drink but not to have a tasty, out of this world kind of dinner.

Food and service 10⁄10. Amazing wine list and the menu chafes regularly. I recommend you sit at the bar and watch the magic happen.

Disappointed. Came to this restaurant after seeing some nice reviews on Unilocal.I ordered the seafood soup and duck confit risotto. Both were too salty. I only got to finish less than half of the risotto then I was already too full(from drinking water).

Went there last night, sat at the kitchen bar, great to watch the chefs, very impressive group. We had the tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, it was divine. Locally sourced. We asked for a veggie pasta not on the menu and they made it for us. Lots of flavor and right amount of cheese, home made pasta. Excellent service.

We lucked out just picking bistro b randomly for lunch. Little did we know it was on the New York Times 36 hours in Quebec list! It was fabulous. After wasting time and restaurants like Cosmos we finally found a place that spoke to us. Don’t be afraid of the small menu. They have something for everyone. As a pescatarian I had no problem. Had the local Quebec cheese appetizer on a strawberry salad and it was so delicious and perfectly balanced flavors. My husband reported liking the pâté and toast. For entrees we had the salmon, a half size of the cannelloni for my daughter(she loved it) and the steak. We watched them make everything in the open kitchen since we sat at the bar. Would definitely return!

I’ve just had a lunch at this place. The food was great and my waiter was very nice and a pleasure to talk to. Everything was perfect until it was time to pay my bill and I discovered there is no wallet in my purse! I had everything in my wallet, all my credit cards, my Californian ID etc. — loosing all of that will bring many challenges in my life as a tourist in Canada. I was in shock and wanted to rush back to my hotel to see if I left it there — but the restaurant manager(?) requested that I leave something with them to guarantee my return. Something like an iPad, that I had with me. So they requested me to leave a $ 500 device with them because they cannot trust me that I’ll return to pay $ 30 for my lunch! That was their way of compassion to someone who’s in a trouble and trusting people… I truly think that restaurant of this level could risk loosing $ 30 in order not to cause more troubles to a tourist who lost his ID and all his credit cards! In the end I happily found my wallet in the hotel, but I never coming back to that place.

Oui, j’y retournerais.

Menu changes every day. Service is amazing. They all but cut my food without being intrusive. Benoit was fantastic, great wine recommendation. This is great for off the beaten path just outside Vieux Quecbec on J. Cartier with other gems. Take the walk

After reading about the restaurant as one of the hottest eatery in town, I decided to make a reservation for dinner on our last day in Quebec CIty. Maybe I went in with too much expectations, this turned out to be just another trendy place that serves mediocre food. The bistro is a bit far from the touristy Old City, so the crowd was mostly trendy locals or foodies like me who have read about raving reviews somewhere. The ambiance was nice with an open kitchen. the drink menu was served on an iPad while the food menu was written on a chalkboard in French. After the waitress patiently translated the entire menu to me in English, I realized the selections reflected nothing more than a typical new American menu. I’ve only tried two entrees off the menu(out of total 5 choices), so I can only speak to what I ate that night. The 75-day aged filet mignon was very well flavored, but it was served slightly too cold. The meat was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Yet the citric sauce served no particular purpose but rather washed away some of the original flavor of the steak. As for the asparagus/mushroom risotto we ordered, there was truly nothing special. The whole plate was overpowered with onions. For a 30-min walk and a $ 100 tab, I was pretty disappointed with what Bistro B offered. I probably could’ve found another restaurant more unique right outside of the old city on St. Jean.

We enjoyed a well-executed cocktail of the night featuring ice cider, basil gelee, star anise, and pepper. The venison, sweetbreads(and of course the foie) were very good.

Wow, out of all the restaurants I visited in Québec City this one was my favorite. I loved everything about this place. I loved the modern interior design. I loved the huge counter top. I loved the service. I loved the huge windows letting in the bright sunlight. And maybe most importantly I loved the food. No doubt the maitre d’ could tell I was a weary tourist, yet he made me feel very welcomed and kindly translated the menu items on the blackboard for me. For lunch I picked the most exotic sounding dish: «feuilleté coeur de porcelet & ris de veau». That’s chopped young piglet heart served over a puffed pastry. That’s right and believe it or not that meal was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. So three cheers for piglet heart. No part of any pig should go to waste, right? Oh and I highly recommend sitting at the counter. The counter surrounds the entire kitchen. If you’re like me, you’ll probably find it fun to watch the chefs while they work. By the way, if you’re looking to kill some time on Avenue Cartier, check out the indoor market across the street in the red brick building. There, you will find small individual booths of people selling candy, cheese, meats, and breads.

Great set lunch and open kitchen to see all the action. Love the sauce on the boudin noir. We were the first to walk in at 11:30, by 12PM the place was completely packed. Definitely better than some of the tourist trap bistros. Worth a visit.
