As an American living in Quebec City, I haven’t found any good cupcake/cake shops comparable to Sprinkles, Crumbs, Sweet Lady Jane etc. Mlle Cupcakes is ok. I found the frosting to be sickly sweet(and I love frosting!) while the cupcakes are quite dry. I was disappointed they don’t have chocolate everyday! The first time I visited, i left without buying anything. I understand it a boutique bakery, but some of the flavors didn’t appeal to me. The cupcakes are very pretty but don’t taste great. I will pay $ 4 a cupcake in LA but definitely not in QC. Overall I would give it 2.5 stars but I am sure locals would rate it higher as it might be more to their taste. I know a good private bakery which caters to American tastes if you want to try, let me know.

Mlle Cupcake est une pionnière dans le petit gâteau à Québec. Par contre, je dois dire que ce n’est pas ma pâtisserie préférée lorsque que je veux me sucrer le bec. Bien que les gâteaux soient très frais et qu’on y offre des saveurs originales, le crèmage est un peu trop granuleux à mon goût. Comme si on croquait les grains de sucre sous la dent. De plus, l’établissement n’est pas très bien situé. Je préfère de loin Loukoum Cupcake.

The cakes were fresh, moist and the flavor was very good. My favorite was the vanilla cupcake with strawberry buttercream frosting. It was a nice surprise to find a cooked strawberry inside the cake when I took my first bite. I also tried a chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream frosting(had a caramel filling) and a vanilla cupcake with butter fudge(sucre à la crème) frosting. They were all good, but there was a too much frosting in my opinion, it must have been around 2 inches high. A box of 6 cupcakes is $ 16 + tax. Individual cupcakes cost $ 3,50. I’d like to visit them on a different day to try different flavors, but the location is most inconvenient for me. It’s in the suburbs so if you don’t have a car and/or if you’re not very familiar with Quebec City it’s not very easy to get there.
