State & Main Kitchen and Bar

Over all very good food, decent prices and good service. I have found that service here is inconsistent but never bad, just indifferent. If you are looking for a good place to meet friends and enjoy good food and a few drinks then this is a great place to give a try! :)

Very good place for lunch… I have been in this restaurant twice for lunch and it has been great both times… The service is not bad, and the food is great… My favorite dish is the lettuce wraps, the rice bowls are very good too, and I liked the desserts as well… I would definitely go back there!

State & Main tries to be authentic, but comes off as generic Canadian pub fare. It’s an Original Joe’s copycat with room for minors.
My first foray at State was on Mother’s Day Sunday. Our party of 5 was greeted and quickly taken to a table on the dining room side. The high-​top table was comfortable, with a leather bench on two sides, and a chair on the third (the waitresses, however, had trouble reaching the top to pour water).
The food menu is pretty typical: appetizers, sandwiches, salads, «favourites», and burgers, as well as steak. Our group got an order of wings and an order of gyoza to start, and a range of dishes for our meal. Both starters were good — the wings were extra crispy, although not terribly meaty.
I ordered the Grilled Cheeseburger for my meal, with sides of Caesar salad and poutine. This was a bit disappointing. The burger came out cold, and with an unmelted slice of processed cheddar. I sent it back to the kitchen to be fixed. The second attempt was better — the burger was on top the cheese, so it actually melted this time. The whole thing was gigantic — more than I could comfortably eat, and was flavoured enough to not need extra condiments. The poutine, however, was also a bit sad — the gravy wasn’t hot enough to melt the cheese curds, so I effectively ate fries and gravy while leaving the cheese chunks to the side.
Nobody else in my party really had any issues with their meals — curry, a rice bowl, butter chicken, and ribs, so it looks like I just got unlucky. I’ll likely try it again, but I’ll stick to a salad or saucy dish that will be better if served cold.

We have been to State & Main a few times now and have always had great food. They have excellent appetizer options, and their entrees are large portions. I also definitely recommend their signature Caesar for a drink.

My wife and I try to make it here every few months. For a pub they have a killer butter chicken which is honestly the only dish I order when we’re there, its a large portion and I end up saving half for my 10 yr old daughter who is a butter chicken guru. The atmosphere is classic and they have a great bar. Worth as stop in for sure.

you better be rich to eat here. food is mediocre at best but they charge five star prices. the server was rude and we were not a priority with keeping drinks full or helping with choices if it would have been busy I’d of been a little better but there was five people in there other then my wife and I

I have gone to State & Main several times and enjoyed it every time. It can be busy but that just shows how good the food is. Once the food was a little slow but otherwise good service. A must try is the jalapeño cornbread with the brown sugar butter.

This was my first time to State & Main. I had heard great things, so I had high hopes. I tried their Butter Chicken. While it was good, it was kinda light on the sauce, & I’m a sauce kind of girl. The naan was really good. The servings were large. I could barely finish half the dish.
My dinner partner ordered the beef dip and couldn’t finish half of that either. Her beef dip was mostly cold except for portions toward the center, which was disappointing. Since she was taking most of it home anyway, it didn’t make much sense to send it back so she didn’t. We just sent word back to the kitchen.
They serve Dad’s root beer in a bottle, which somehow tasted a bit off to me for some reason but maybe it was me.
All in all, it was very tasty. I will definitely be back. The timeliness of service was not the greatest, and it was quite loud for a Friday afternoon at about noon. So, a few minor annoyances, I still enjoyed the food & the menu was very enticing. There were too many delicious items to choose from! I will be back!

Great Cajun chicken cheddar burger! Will definitely return.

Wow. Recommended by twitter follower. I ordered beef ribs to die for. The fries dip was dill and soo yummy. I’m so full and have to work an event in this town. I will return!
