The service here was really bad. We had the buffet style hot pot. In the middle of dining, the waitress served us onion pancakes. We did not check who ordered it and it didn’t seem important to us as we r having buffet. However, after a while the waitress came and told us that we should have told her instead of eating it, suggesting that we were dishonest which completely throws me off. Super rude of her. Who would have taken advantage of a pancake(it’s not even seafood). We did not give tips in the end and they told us it was a tipping system we had to give(ridiculous, we give because of good service not because it is a tipping system) would have given negative if I could.

Been here many times. Overall this place is very good. The lamb rolls were served with exact portion we asked for each time

Even though the food was acceptable. The service here was just unbelievably horrible. We waited for about 40 mins for our soup to arrive and we waited even longer for one of my friends drink to arrive till we gave up and just got her something simple so they can remember to bring it. I know it’s Richmond and all, but shouldn’t it be a requirement to speak some kind of basic conversational English to work in a restaurant? We were having such trouble that a table next to us offered their help with talking to the servers regarding what we needed. Don’t think I’ll go back here until either I clean up on my Chinese or they hire servers that can speak conversational English.

Came here over the weekend for lunch. It was around 12:30pm to 1pm and fairly busy, so there was about a 20 minute wait. Once we got seated and ordered(did not have ayce), the wait began. It must have taken another 20 minutes before any food came out, which really baffles me because it’s hot pot and everything is frozen anyway. It shouldn’t take that long. Even then it was only the veggies. At that point I also ordered 3 eggs to go with the hot pot. It probably took another 10 minutes before I got the eggs. Then the meat finally came. A drink that was ordered at the very beginning also never arrived until we asked them about it halfway through the meal. But the kicker is, when the broth was drying up, it took us forever to flag down a server. When we finally got a hold of one, she asked whether we wanted to add more water or the actually broth. We wanted either, it didn’t matter, the pot was drying up. The server never returned. After another 5 to 10 minutes, we had to get another server, who simply turned around to get the jug of broth and pour it into the pot. The jug was literally right behind them on a counter. For some unexplained reason, the original server could not do a 180 turn and do it for us. I could have done it myself if I knew it was there. The food was actually not bad once it did arrive. However, the portions and what you get in the combos appear to be less than their Broadway location. While I recognize I was dining during a peak period, it was absolutely not the wait. I will definitely not be coming back here for the foreseeable future.

Went to Mongolian Hot Pot with my family to celebrate my birthday. I have been to this place a number of times, bringing numerous friends to enjoy the delicious and unique hot pot soup. Service has always been mediocre but I always enjoyed the food so up until now it was worth visiting. I was excited to share this with my family whom I don’t see often as it is difficult to gather us all together. I made the reservation for 9:30pm knowing that they close at midnight. I knew about the 2hr maximum so I figured this would be ample time, I also hoped that if this reservation was too late, someone would let me know. Some of my family had arrived earlier than me, as I was running late, when I arrived at 9:42pm my family let me know that the server had told them that they would be doing last call at 10:30pm… 1.5 hrs before closing time. Annoyed that we would likely only get two orders in, we carried on with our meal. At 10:12 we put our second order in, double checking we could put another order in at last call at 10:30 if we were missing any items(this happens often) or wanting more food. The server let us know that this would be our last order and told us, that we should just order more. I tried to reason with her given that they closed at midnight. but she was not changing her mind. Frustrated, I tried to enjoy my birthday meal with my family. At 10:45 the server showed up with the debit machine next to our table saying, that they were closing down their machines and would like us to pay. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated, given that we had only been here an hour and they had rushed our last order, and now were rushing us to pay. I went to speak to the manager who just repeated that they needed payment now, but we could stay until 11:45pm. Server appeared abruptly after again to take payment, made a mistake adding more money than she should, and rolled her eyes when we asked her to correct the mistake. After a long process of voiding the transaction and re-entering the right amounts(approximately 10min of our dinner time) we tried to return to my birthday meal. By this point I was extremely frustrated and noticed my family was equally upset with the lack of service and unwillingness to accommodate or be polite. We finished our meals, hastily, with the workers two tables over having their own hot pot dinner in plain sight and left the restaurant. I will never return and will never again recommend or bring friends or family to this restaurant.

Came here for lunch with my husband and two toddlers because we felt like hotpot. It was packed… we got a seat in a few minutes and gave our order. After 25 minutes, nothing had come and we thought that was strange considering everything is RAW and we cook it ourselves. This is the kind of place that is short staffed and waitresses are running around like chickens with their head cut off and there isn’t much order. You have to wave down someone because they don’t come to you, and so we wave down the guy in the suit, I guess the manager on shift… and asked about our order. He asks the waitress. she has a look on her face that looks like it reads, «OH sh** I totally forgot to put the order in!». They were apologetic and we were hungry and they said things would come out quick. 10 minutes later nothing came and we were about to leave and they gave us one dish. Things slowly arrived 10 minutes later. Terrible service. Didn’t offer to discount our bill or anything.

AYCE hot pot is something that I crave for once in a while, so I don’t actually eat it that often! This was my first time dining at Little Sheep and I have to say that I was quite impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant! In general, I think Little Sheep is a bit more upscale than the other AYCE hot pot places in Richmond, but the food is just average. The soup is great though and I love the spicy broth! We found the sauce station to be quite fun since you go and mix as many bowls of sauce as you want rather than wait for the servers. Overall, the food was decent but we found that the amount of food given to us never matched what we requested for. For example, even though we requested for more plates of beef than lamb on our order sheet, they ended up giving us a larger plate of lamb and a smaller plate of beef! We don’t expect the amount of food to exactly match what we order, but the portions should not be completely off!

Went for lunch yesterday. Quality of food good as usual, but nothing spectacular. Horrible service! Noticed advertisement on tv facing Lansdowne Mall hallway about special for plate of beef slices($ 7.99 instead of $ 11). Watched the ad * 3 since the clip flipped rather quickly. Got to the table and asked the waitress, who DENIED that there was such a special. I obviously got irritated and asked her to come and watch the tv ad with me. Waitress refused and instead said that she would look into the matter with her manager and get back to me. Waitress NEVER came back. I went back to the tv then and noticed it was turned off now. Obviously even more irritated now — special wasn’t honored and was lied to! At payment, I questioned the male mgr about it. At first he denied the special and the customer question. Finally, the male mgr confessed that it was the restaurant’s error. Never apologized. What was the point of offering the special at payment when I didn’t even order the special to begin with? Stupid! Horrible customer service! Going elsewhere from now on. It’s Richmond; there are tons of hot pot places!

[Year of the Sheep] What better way to ring in Chinese New Year than with a little hotpot action? Little Sheep Mongolian seemed appropriate for the occasion so a few coworkers and I decided to make a workday lunch out of it. The place was relatively deserted considering it was a busy day at Lansdowne mall. We were promptly seated and debated the difficult decision: to go «all-you-can-eat» or not. After a summit meeting, we decided it would not be fiscally beneficial for the other three. At almost $ 25 per person, AYCE is a tad pricier than the competition — especially since there’s no lunch pricing. The four of us split three lunch combos and an additional plate of premium lamb. I was quite impressed with the freshness and quality of the meat. The shrimp balls were made entirely of shrimp with no filler. They had a «sauce» bar where you could customize the dipping sauce you’d like with your meal. While the food quality was good, value and service were lacking. As a guy with hollow legs, the meal made me full enough to return to work but not without some afternoon snacking. My share worked out to $ 15 taxes in. Our server wasn’t overly attentive and made some mistakes with the order. It also didn’t help she was difficult to flag down despite a half empty restaurant. Overall, it was a decent meal and I may be back for an all-you-can-eat dinner but Little Sheep wouldn’t be my first choice.

I am not sure anyone noticed their 16oz(or maybe 14oz, I couldn’t remember clearly) draft beer cups even smaller than Earls’s 12oz, and charges more — $ 6.50. They keep sending my orders to wrong tables, some orders never come, and I guess they just won’t tell you if some food material already out of stock. Only have 2 rounds of ordering column available per paper, although you can order more rounds, but I completely don’t like the intimation and frustration when you try to order more. BTW, I got my «3rd round» ordering paper, a used one, because my 2nd round didn’t come, and they still missed some items in my «3rd round» order.

If you feel like wrecking yourself in the name of Chairman Mao, this place will definitely do the job. AYCE hot pot is so beautiful. Parking is available in the nice larger Lansdowne parking lot. Even though the name says Mongolian, the staff and management(and most likely the owners) are all Chinese. As farther proof that this place has ties to Chairman Mao, the restaurant also doubles as a liaison office for the Northeast China Association Of Canada. There’s a plaque on the wall in the waiting area. See photo. Another indicator — this place actually accepts Union Pay(China’s version of Interac) cards! The place is very popular — expect hordes of people, even though the dining area is quite large. The one caveat to the AYCE — yes you can order as much as you want, but they ONLY let you order 3 times. In other words, you have to load up. No «multiple small batches» here. My friends warned me about this — they found out the hard way last time. The sauces here are obtained at a station. They have the staples such as satay, peanuts and chili. My only complaint is that most of the buckets were pretty much empty — I had to tilt the containers and literally scrape the bottom. The food list is extensive, with random animal parts galore. They seem quite good in terms of not skimping on one’s orders(when you order 10 of something, you actually get 10). For $ 5 more, one can go for the deluxe menu. Ingredients seemed decently fresh — no complaints. Service was a bit lacking as they’re understaffed. Had to help myself at the utensil and napkin station a few times. The food definitely delivered, but the place is a few bucks pricier than the competition, at $ 25 all in. I wouldn’t mind coming back here again at some point, but there are a pile of other hot pot places, just a few blocks away on Alexandra.

Terrible service, food tasted okay. Was going to leave 2 stars until we got food poisoning. I ate with a large group but the service was basically non-existent. They brought our first round of food and then disappeared for the next hour and a half. We need refills of tea and broth and wanted to order more food and drinks and there were just no staff around. They were rude and awkward, even came in the middle of our meal and wanted us to pay first. In fact the only times they came to our table was to hurry us out because they were closing soon(since they took so long with our orders). The food tasted fine and we enjoyed it once if finally came, however some of the orders never arrived. People also ordered a la carte items that never showed up. And finally some of us got food poisoning the next day. I know we cooked the food well and have never had this at hot pot before so I am quite sure it was caused by food not being fresh or prepared properly. Overall: Extremely bad restaurant, will never return.

First thing to say is that you should ALWAYS reserve for dinner. I have to say that I managed to arrive 20mins late for my reservation once(bad I know) and got scolded but still got a table. I really appreciate this place because it is consistent. I know what kind of service and food quality I am going to get when I walk into the restaurant. I would not put this on par with some of the non-AYCE hot pot places quality wise but for AYCE it’s my go to. First off, the soups are pretty tasty. We ussually get half and half of house base and spicy base.(I should mention that you can get a powder version of these 2 soup bases at t&t if you are doing hot pot at home) I like that the soups have a LOT of chinese herbs, garlic & pepper etc. The spicy base is very spicy but very good. Your mouth will tingle once you have finished. The meat is fairly good quality for AYCE. I do find that when I order quite a lot of beef they won’t give you all of the order. They will only give you part of it and ussually the beef will be very slow to come out. This however does not happen with pork and lamb. I particularly like their selection of other items. They have all my favorite types of tofu & veggies. The dumplings are decent but their fish balls are quite yummy and seem fresh. All in all I recommend this place to friends when they are looking for something that is good, consistent and convenient.

I have to give it a 4, based on the other AYCE places that have shown promise, then when you go back the promise is deflated and you curse those places and never return. When I come to this establishment, I know what I’m getting myself into, and I know the quality will always be up to par. To be fair, I can’t compare it to their China operations and will go against all the small ones in the area(and there are quite a few) and still this place is packed at night. Ever since they went for the AYCE from 3PM till closing this has been the spot for dipping things in boiling broth. They do cost a little more than your one off AYCE hot pot joints, that said the food quality has been consistent, the service pretty attentive, and they have a sauce area. Yes, you can make your own dips to drench your hot boiled vegetables and meat in whatever concoction of sauce you make, from soy sauce, to garlic bits, to peanut sauce to vinegar and onions, it’s whatever you take in this thing. There are times that this area is loaded with people, and as said in other reviews, hoarding aside, they are taking more than they can use back to the table. I never knew hot pot was a dual dipping affair of drenching in the pot, then drenching in the sauce, I must be eating this all wrong… well to them and their own! This place is not small, you and your army of friends, or town sized family can probably get a good table, if not a room as long as you call ahead to book it. The place is clean, the meat cuts are fresh and the food almost looks like stuff you would get at an a la carte hot pot joint. Tons of parking as it is located in Lansdowne mall makes this place a destination place, even though you may see some stupid lazy people circling the empty lot cause all the close spots to the door have been parked up. I have come here many times, when I want this sort of food and I am in Richmond this is the first stop as those other hot pots have surprised me once, but when I return a second time it is usually a let down.

This restaurant name changed to Mongolian Hot Pot. I didn’t come back this restaurant for a year, however, we were shopped at the mall and too cold to go out to find another place for dinner. That’s why we tried again. I really don’t like go to ANYAYCE restaurant coz it provides quantity of food NOT quality of food. The soup base was good(MSG) and hot pot items were common for hot pot.

Boo to no oysters on their AYCE menu. Since they’ve started offering AYCE, I’ve been hankering to try this place out. A bit disappointed in the end result. Original soup broth is still as delicious, but the variety in the menu is what was lacking. Not many choices available, compared to other AYCE hot pot places. It was also hard to order because they didn’t tell you the quantity of the items, so it was hard to gauge the portion size. There’s a self serve condiments bar which was good, but the sauces kept on emptying out due to people over indulging. Service was a bit lacking as well-always to flag people down. Probably not my first choice in AYCE, but still coming back for their lunch hot pot combos.

I finally got to try the AYCE hotpot for dinner and I didn’t get any wow factor. For 20 bucks plus broth($ 10), there are other places that has more selection. Meat selection is ok. The seafood selection is basically down to mussels, cuttlefish, squid, and fish. I’m an oyster fan, so the lack of it when other AYCE Hot Pot offers them, brings it down another star. The House Special Broth is still pretty good though.

Now I find it is AYCE!!! The condiment bar was empty but they still have black fungus! I couldn’t believe how quickly the condiments bar gets empty of all the good dipping sauces. As soon as it’s filled up, a swarm of people crash in on that area and take as much as they can fill in their dishes to take back to their tables. I was quite amazed by it all. There is no polite way about it. You almost have to fight for a spot! LOL. With AYCE it seems that they ‘re busy every night now. It’s more affordable than what it used to be, but when it gets busy it tough to get extra soup to replenish your stock. There is a time limit, but the place is so large, I don’t think they adhere to it too strictly. but then again, we were there with Mr Hot Pot VIP. I would say it’s lost a star, but that’s because I had a few pieces of dumplings and a beef ball that just grossed me out. Wasn’t sure if it was the type of dumpling or meatball, but it didn’t agree with my perticular palate. If you read Amy T’s review, I think she is spot on, cause she’s cool. mmmm bean curd slices.
