Food presentation and ambiance is best, however freshness and taste in food is just slightly above average. Price range is $$$. Service is so so as they are so busy with other tables eg. It was difficult to flag down a server and they were giving us the bill before the last dish even arrived etc. Parking is usually not a problem at this location and plenty of street parking nearby available.

We came here last night expecting AYCE at So Hot So Pot but it’s now Manzo Japanese Shabu Shabu. Décor is pretty much the same. They have added some more«Japanese» décor and sushi to the menu. A little disappointed that it wasn’t what we were looking but we thought we would stay and check it out. It’s now Shabu Shabu but really most of the soup bases were Chinese style. They had some Japanese items that you can order like sushi. Food quality was fine. Portions were decent but not impressive. Price was high considering the number of other great hot pot places in Richmond. Spent about $ 70 w/tip for 2 ppl for: 1 satay soup base, bak choi, lamb, beef tripe, cuttlefish ball, fried tofu and mochi. Haven’t tried Manzo’s other restaurants in Richmond but probably wont come to this restaurant again.

Manzo Japanese has another restaurant opened in Richmond. Manzo Itamae on Capstan Way — I will classify it as high end Japanese Restaurant in Richmond with excellent quality of food. Manzo Izakaya on Alexandra Road — Causal Japanese Tapas(skewers and BBQ things) Manzo Japanese Hot Pot(Shabu Shabu) — Totally different style trendy hot pot in Japanese style! Cool! The interior and décor quite modern and it’s so clean. If you look for quality of food, this is a good place to try! There is NO comparison of AYCE hot pot PLEASE! They served you the spices and dressing before the food/hot pot come. However, the waiter couldn’t fully translated it in English. LOL. We had Bonito flavored broth with Kelp with hand cut Angus beef for hot pot and ordered some extra items! Let’s talk about the MUST try items: Meat Balls & hand-made fish paste noodle. We ordered assorted meat balls platter — Cuttlefish, Shrimp meat, Dacefish and Beef Tendon Balls! All of balls were so tasty and refreshing! Fish paste noodle — we needed to squeeze it out from food bag in order to cook it. Interesting? Try it! OMG! Angus Beef was so delicious and it melted in your mouth. We were gluttonous and ordered another one after we finished. The Premium was a bit cheap and it’s ok. The home made dumpling just pretty standard, not impress at all. The fruit platter was fresh and good, of coz, we have no complain for the complimentary. I would definitely come back to try the other items when I craving for Shabu Shabu.
