This is hands down my favourite sushi place in Vancouver! Great service, ambience and food, its almost perfect. Had the philly roll, spicy salmon roll, dynamite roll and the alpha bc roll which are all very tasty and satisfying. If you’re a fan of cream cheese, the philly roll will definitely change the way you think about cream cheese in sushi. My favourite is the spicy salmon roll as it has a good portion of salmon sashimi which a spicy sauce that adds a little something extra to the whole roll. There are also daily promotions for sushi and drinks at the place which is great if you’re looking to try something new. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!

Good tapa, good price! This place is a little hidden gem! It is on the outskirts of yaletown, close to the bridge so the area is a bit sketch. However, they have really good food, including aburi sushi! The price is very reasonable too. The cocktails are really sweet, probably lower in alcohol content. However, at $ 6 per drink(mostly), you can’t really go wrong!

Really good sushi bar in the area! Food are decently priced and good portion for enjoying many dishes. Most of the staff are japanese. We had Vancouver Mango roll and spicy tuna roll, they both were awesome. Chicken garage also recommended

Alpha Sushi + Bar is a Japanese restaurant located on Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver serving sushi and izakaya style cuisine along with a variety of cocktail drinks. Happy Hour: Mon-Fri 5 — 6:30PM Sat-Sun 4 — 6:30PM Every night 9:30 pm — close. What an extensive menu: appetizers, salads, rolls, nigiri, sashimi, tapas, grilled dishes. A surprise item is «Assorted Cheese». Grilled Toro pork: tender pork with garlic onion sauce. This was chewy and the garlic onion sauce was very strong and too salty. I would have preferred something less salty to have some of the pork come through. By the time we were done with this, everything tasted like onion. Beef Tataki, $ 9.50: Lightly seared beef sashimi, fried garlic, green onion with our ponzu sauce. OK but very strong garlic and onion. Tuna Garlic pepper sashimi: Black pepper and garlic cured albacore tuna, seared and served with sliced onion, seaweed and ponzu sauce. OK, very strong garlic. I must have chosen the 3 most salty, garlicky, oniony dishes. My palette was shot. Wild Salmon Avocado Roll, $ 8.00: Fresh wild sockeye salmon, avocado. OK. All in all, I think this restaurant tries to present some very innovative dishes, but in the process, some very heavy handed flavorings emerge. In my opinion, too mush dressing doesn’t allow the taste of the meat/fish to come through, and that’s a pity. Unless of course, you are trying to disguise the quality of the meat/fish. For the sushi purist and traditionalist, this place is not for you. Otherwise, it’s a very fun menu and the vibe is young and fun too. Service is great! Pocky candy when you get the check. Really nice touch. Very clever that that their tables have a shelf underneath to store menus. Menus are accompanied by a Time Life Book!

This place is amazing. Coming from Portland Oregon, I thought I’d had decent sushi… I was wrong! The himachi iniri melted in my mouth and the seared sock-eye sashimi was phenomenal. My favorite though, was the jalapeño Vancouver roll. The salmon had a subtle smokey kick to go with the fresh jalapeño in the crab and the jalapeño wasabi mayo. It was so good I actually teared up with my first bites. Servers and chefs were very polite and attentive.

We were wondering the streets after being shut out at Guu Garden. I was frantically looking up other restaurants on Unilocal(Friday evening) before locating this one. I called and they said the wait was like 30 mins. So we went. It looked like a typical hip japanese restaurant. The place was crowded so I thought that was a good sign. Ambience: Nice décor, small bar area, and people just straight chilling. Looks like a nice hangout on a weekend. Service: For the most part pretty good. There were a number of servers wandering around taking orders and clearing dishes. No complaints there. Food: There was a regular menu and then a «special» menu. The drink special was $ 1 off pitchers among other things. We ordered some nigri(salmon and toro) and both came out a tad fishy. We also got some sashimi and they were just ok. We went with the Granville roll. I thought it was well put together, my wife on the other hand thought it was fishy too. This was our first sushi stop so we had nothing to comapare with. I got the Ebi mayo(shrimp tempura with spicy mayo) and I thought it was ok. Then I had a similar dish at Kingyo and that blew this one out of the water. Value: decent priced items, but not for the quality There are a ton of other japanese restaurant in the city. So in order to make it, you have to be good. Alpha Sushi was just average. I would probably only return if other places were completely booked and I was starving.

Great sushi place on Granville Street! Drink specials for every night of the week as well as Happy Hour drink and food specials! Had some fancy rolls like the Alpha roll and the Granville roll but my favorite one was the simplest: the Salmon and Avocado roll. Delicious cut of salmon. The others rolls had a mustard sauce that I wasn’t crazy about but it was definitely creative. Sapporo on tap! Fantastic service!!!

Found this place on Unilocal, and I am glad it lived up to the hype! It is definitely far down on the abandoned side of Granville, but the restaurant has a really cool, modern vibe. It’s almost like something you’d expect to see in Gastown. The sushi here is awesome, and they have a lot of unique rolls to choose from. My absolute favourite is the spicy tuna prawn roll. Pretty much any of the spicy ones are awesome. The sweeter ones are also good, but only in smaller quantities. The sashimi was awesome and melted in the mouth. I’ve had take out and also ate in, and the service has been good for both. Definitely would recommend as your go to sushi place if you live in the area.

Over rated… Ate here and didn’t like it. Fish tasted stale, and I can’t believe how expensive they are… Compared to other places in the city they charge 15−20% more and give lesser quality food…

So the Sushi wasn’t bad but also didn’t «Rock» my world! I had worst but the truth I HADBETTER. What bothered me is the price VS quality and here is where Alpha fails! 45 $ for 4 rolls that weren’t AMAZING! therefore value for money is BAD and I wouldn’t come back. Downtown Vancouver is not lacking of Sushi restaurants and there are plenty of places that the Sushi is the same as Alphas and better for a better price(fair price).

Good job Alpha for the extraordinary service plus the good Sushi you provide. Your informative about your food gives your customers a sense of security when they come to eat since majority of the customers are tourists. Will definitely be back next time when we are in town.

Never been to a sushi restaurant in this part of town, but I was in the area and wanted to try it out. It was quiet on a weekday night, which made me apprehensive, but once I got the food, I was reassured that this place was good. Their novelty rolls are delicious, sashimi was fresh and not so «fishy-tasting» and the salmon belly was grilled just right. The waiter we had that evening was on his game(most likely because it wasn’t busy). If I’m in the area again and craving Japanese, I will definitely stop by again.

Had the seafood sunomono appetizer, good but too much vinegar(it’s just me). The Mango Vancouver roll was the best! Nice ambiance, great service, would definitely go back whenever I’m in the city again

You have heard the saying before, never judge a book by its cover. Well, never judge a restaurant by its location! Sometimes, if you give it a try, it may pleasantly surprise you! I came here recently before a VSO concert and was happy with the rolls that we tried. There was the Vancouver mango roll, the spicy tuna roll, the Halloween roll and lastly four(big) chicken Kara-age. Total was ~$ 35 for two people. They have a happy hour(ends at 6:30) and a late night menu(starts at 9:30pm). Staff were all friendly, authentic and polite. Different chefs brought out the rolls as they were prepared and it is presented in an artsy way. :)

This place was kind of odd, but the sushi was very good! We had three menus to pore over: The lunch menu, the drink menu, and a random hard-cover book that had their regular menu on the inside and back covers. Like I said, odd. We ended up ordering the teriyaki don off the lunch menu, the four-kinds-of-sashimi off the regular menu, local bc toro off the chalkboard menu, and several rolls and drinks. Teriyaki Don: Probably the least memorable dish but good, solid chicken teriyaki that came with miso soup. Sashimi: We got several pieces of yellowtail, wild sockeye salmon, scallop, and albacore that were all very fresh and delicious. This plate was a highlight. Local BC Toro Nigiri: This is a must order and if not the nigiri, then the sashimi. The flavor isn’t fatty or tuna, it’s just rich and delicious. Wild Sockeye Salmon Roll: Excellent. Perfect balance of salmon and avocado. Philly Roll: Probably the only philly roll I’ve ever liked because they didn’t put too much cream cheese in the roll. Alpha Roll: Really good roll with the ebi on top. Normally my husband doesn’t like rolls with ebi but he really enjoyed this one. Jalapeño Vancouver Roll: Like a california roll but elevated by the salmon on top and jalapeño Lychee Martini: fun! not too sweet with a good balance of alcohol and lychee liqueur. All of the food was delicious and really the perfect order for our party of five. I want to say I’ll definitely be back but I’m not sure only because I don’t live in Vancouver and there are many, many places I want to try still in Vancouver. Alpha Sushi Bar is worth a stop and really quite good.

I’m with Kenneth N. This is a 3 star place. Really limited sashimi selection. Alright– nothing to rave about. Anyone who thinks this is a 5 star must have also just discovered Guu existed. Yes. Snark. They also charge for tea. Expect to spend about 30 $ per person including tax and tip. Not including drinks.

The food is great but the curries are outstanding. They have seven levels of added spice for the curries — level 3 is spicy enough for those who like really spicy cuisine(that’s still edible and flavorful)! Pleasant and attentive waitstaff, delicious food, and clean stylish interior. Everything you really need in a lunchtime sushi joint — and happy hour goes all day! Prices are affordable, too.

In town on business and wanted sushi. This was the closest and had great reviews. Got in during Happy Hour.$ 4.75 pints of Sapporo! Tried the happy hour roll with wild sockeye salmon. It was awesome very fresh and your choice of white or brown rice. Toro pork, lemon pepper tuna tataki all were great. Service also very good and all server were friendly and very fast. Next trip here will plan on stopping in again.

I used to live around the area and I had always passed this place without giving it a second chance. The other day I finally decided to give it a try and boy was I ever wrong in doubting this place before. The staff are super friendly, the restaurant is small and cozy, and the food is absolutely delicious. I got a miso soup, salmon avocado roll, and the sockeye sashimi. everything was fresh, simple and full of flavour. You gotta try this place.

We’ve been coming for over 5 years, and what can I say except that the food is consistently excellent and the staff are consistently friendly and competent. Alpha never disappoints… unless you can’t get a table! Must haves: mentaiko udon, seared salmon sashimi… and one item that we ask for that isn’t on the menu anymore but they will make for us sometimes… deep fried chicken knee(cartilage)

For starters I love the hipster feel of this place with the décor, modern yet traditional. I am seeing a lot of places like this pop up here and there around the city which is cool. I had my basic cucumber/avocado roll which was decently priced. What impressed me was that most dishes are very nicely plated. Customer service was friendly and the prices are mid range.

I enjoyed the sushi at this restaurant. I am not from BC, so I was surprised by the price of the food.(Sushi in my area is much more expensive.) I loved the sashimi dishes both in taste and presentation. Order one without hesitation. The roles were delicious as well. My parents were surprised by the salmon in that it was smoked — something that we’ve never seen in sushi before. It was not bad, just surprising. Overall, an excellent experience.

Odd menu style(drinks in the front and food in the back of a book about planes). It didn’t stand out as a GREAT sushi place as I have sushi a lot, but the food was pretty good. Recommend: miso soup — delicious flavor Any sashimi plate — topped with ginger sauce

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants on the south area of downtown(along with Guu Garden). I usually come here around once a week. They specialize in curries and have a monthly special. Today I had the«Grilled wild sockeye salmon belly sweet miso flavour». Not really favourite dish here, but I wanted to try it. Overall their food and curries and delicious(curry can be a bit too spicy for my liking at times). Service is great and attentive. Food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. The one time the food took a while, they had a very large group and was kind enough to let us know prior to ordering. Anyway, easy 5 stars, highly recommended.

Tucked away close to the Ramada in downtown Vancouver this little sushi restaurant does not disappoint. After a show, my dad and I stopped in for our 9:30 reservation. We were seated and given their menu and happy house list. I settled on the happy hour sushi combo with salmon, tuna and scallops. Dad got peppered tuna and salmon nigiri. The sushi came served on cold plates… Boy was the fish was so fresh tasting. We also go two appetizers of seaweed salad and baby octopus, both were quite good. My only disappoint was about dessert, not the sushi. I ordered green tea ice cream with whipped cream and all I got was a very small scoop with some reddi whip on the side. Keep in mind this was a $ 4 single scoop of ice cream before the 20% off happy hour dessert discount($ 3.20). I thought it was way over priced for A SCOOP of Haagen Daaz ice cream. I can get a whole pint for $ 4. Dessert aside, sushi was fantastic and service was attentive and fast. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Excellent lunch combos! Got the tuna and salmon don today. Place was vacant(Sunday at noon), but the eats were fresh and the service was excellent. Added bonus: my wife requested protein(on the veggie curry) and they suggested a sunny side up egg. It really added to the dish.
