Live in the neighborhood and used to come regularly as the food was good and the prices very reasonable. Have found that over time the food quality has gone down and service can be very hit or miss. They have a good variety of authentic taiwanese dishes and bubble teas but if ordering bubble tea know that they tend to be quite sweet. The restaurant also isn’t very clean and the one thing that always bothers me is that their tea is usually served lukewarm. If you are serving it to customers please, make sure the hot tea is actually hot.

The three spice chicken($ 8.50 for rice combo) was tasty, lots of garlic, ginger, and mint. Rice combos seem to be the way to go here since they come with rice and side dishes making them a great value. I also ordered the pork and red sauce($ 6.50 as an appetizer), which I wasn’t a huge fan of. The«red sauce» tasted like greasy cinnamon sugar, not at all what I was expecting. Also not nearly as good a deal as the river combo.

Hit the store right after work. Very satisfied very happy. Price range is pretty decent. Signature pork doesn’t need much say. The sauce that goes with the pork has a unique sweet flavor. Really comprise the meat. The sesame oil noodle is as well awesome, with a chicken soup base and ginger and garlic kick. Will be back for sure.

Good Taiwan style food. Love the pork rice, pork hog. Pretty much all the fried dishes are good here. They open late. Good place to grab a bite after work. Don‘t go at dinner hour, service will become very slow. Bubble tea is very authentic here.

4 stars when they’re not busy and 3 stars when they are. I ordered a pudding slush with pearls when there weren’t too many customers and it was delicious. However, tonight… I was a bit disappointed by how icy my drink was and how hard and bland my pearls were. Not too mention the lack of. In terms of the 3 spice chicken… busy or not… I love the flavor of it, but I feel like the knife work needs work. Thin slices of sharp bone are somewhat annoying. Their pan fried dumplings weren’t too shabby at all. Friendly staff when less busy… but their service is extremely slow when the restaurant is 80% full.

Not sure why this restaurant has only 3 stars. We liked everything we ordered tonight. We had the pork hog, which was juicy and went very well with the dipping sauce that came with it. The steak with black pepper sauce on an iron hit the spot and was as expected. The beef wrapped in the scallion cake also did not disappoint. The only vegetable side dish we ordered(e.g. The one that costs $ 4.95) definitely served its purpose and balanced the meal that would otherwise be too heavy. Service was good. The waitress served us promptly and came and checked on our hot tea several times without being asked. Restaurant appeared clean and was not too loud. Would love to come back the next time we’re here!

Terrible service! The food is mediocre at best, but the service is absolutely terrible. They just talk amongst themselves and do not care if you raise your hand or try to get their attention. Our table was actually kicked out because the waitress claimed that we were taking up too much space with just one extra chair! She could have kindly asked to take the chair and we would have been fine with that. Wow… never going back. The place still has a strong smell of piss that never goes away, depending on where you sit. Be warned.

Came here for an early dinner. First off, the parking is soooo tight. So if you are able to find street parking, park on the street instead. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting your car scratched. We ordered the oyster omelet, seaweed appetizer, XO fried rice, sweet and sour fish and ofcourse, the famous pork hock. Oyster omelet had too much starch. I like the sauce, but I guess I’m not used to that much starch. Seaweed appie is good. Just the right flavor to keep your appetite going. Nothing special about the XO fried rice — just fried rice with some XO sauce put on top. Sweet and sour fish was good. For the pork hock, we ordered the small order and it was just right with some left overs for the 4 of us. So if you are ordering other dishes, the small size is good enough for 4 people(you can’t eat too much of this anyways as it might give you a heart attack!). Pork hock was good. What made it go to the next level was the sauce. Service was fast and efficient. What I liked was that when we asked for a box to put in the pork hock(we did not finish it), the server put in fresh serving of sauce in a sauce container. This really impressed me. Prices were reasonable and I would definitely come back!

Came here on Thursday for dinner. The place was empty as it was still early. Got seated at the last table closest to the bathroom. I highly recommend NOT sitting there. Every time the door opened(from the rear entrance by the bathroom), the waft of bathroom cleaner came into the room and it smelled like dirty bathroom mixed with cleaners and then the waft of your food. I asked my friend if we could leave because it was actually making me nauseous. The food: — xlb skin is too thick and not enough meat. Decent taste though. Wrong type of vinegar for it so a little off putting. — beef noodle soup broth was a bit sweet which was strange. The meat was sliced like for the green onion pancake with beef rolls. I prefer my meat in cubes. Other than that, loved the pickled veggies and choosing rice vermicelli noodles for this dish. — the chicken nuggets portion seemed smaller than usual and not as much meat and more skin and fat. — bubble tea was way too sweet and the bubbles were gross. The tea was sweet enough my dentist would probably object hehe. The bubbles weren’t chewy and were a little more dense and just lacked flavor. I’d avoid bubble tea here all together. I’d come back for some of their dishes especially the pork hock which they’re famous for. The service is always consistent. You have to hail them down and they’re always happy to help, or else you’ll be waiting too long if you’re just sitting there expecting to be helped.

Food usually great and so is service but today we found s giant spider inside our sautéed vegetables and they ordered the wrong fried rice and asked us if we wouldn’t mind eating it. Such bad service today. Food still tasted good other than the fact we found a giant spider inside… Eh… It’s a different experience here everytime.

Horrible I don’t think I would ever recommend this place or come back. The service is garbage and the food is boarder line horrible. First off I found a spider in my veggie, Asked for new chopsticks; took 10 minutes Ordered a sausage and egg fried rice but a shrimp and egg fried rice came to the table. I explained to the server how I wanted sausage and she asks me if I can just take it, I told her I would like mine and she tells me, «it will be a wait.» Waited 20+ minutes. Drinks took 20+ minutes and arrived to the table watered down and half melted. My kiwi juice under«fresh fruit» was watered down so bad it taste like water. My boyfriends orange juice under«fresh fruit» tasted like Tropicana juice. I would not come back Let’s keep in mind we come at 830 pm on a Wednesday. NOT during rush hour

I used to like this place but I don’t anymore. I’ve been there recently a couple times and during those recent visits, the service was TERRIBLE. they are so rude, it looks like they don’t even wanna be there anymore. They got our orders wrong too. The food isn’t bad just the service is so crappy I don’t wanna come back.

I have been to this place multiple times and each time I would get bubble tea. This time I was brave enough and ordered their meal. Got three things to try and their food are not that great. I find their food are either spicy, tasteless or sour tasting. It seems like their food flavour are based on those taste. Don’t think I will come back for food. Bubble tea is ok.

I’m a fan. I was thinking about giving this place 3 stars, but the lu lo fan I ordered convinced me to give them a 4. The hakka style pork was very delish, but the lu lo fan was awesome! Service was super friendly too! Their famous pork hock is my absolute FAVE!!! So fatty but so yum. Definitely a must order! The portion sizes are on the smaller side so definitely add a side dish if you’re looking to get full! I’ve been to their Richmond location but I like this one a lot better. This location is super convenient, it’s located right by King Edward Station!

Team Fam came here for dinner and we had the following: Char Gway Teow(~$ 9, curried rice noodles with shrimp) Deep Fried Chicken with Sunny-side Egg on Rice(~$ 9) Ovaltine Starting with the Char Gway Teow, this dish was huge! If you’re all in for the carbs, you can definitely get away with splitting this in half and maybe ordering a drink to easily have a meal for under $ 10. The noodles were cooked all the way through and the shrimp were fairly sized for the price and for a simple fill-me-up, this plate delivered. The Deep Fried Chicken with Sunny-side Egg on Rice did not fare so well. The crispy skin was very dark compared to regular fast food fried chicken and it was incredibly oily. I usually look forward to chomping down on fried chicken but I had to take the skin off of this one to get to the meat inside. We asked the server why it was so dark and she said«That’s the way it is.». We then asked if the kitchen ever re-uses old oil and she said«Maybe.» That’s a little unsettling and I’m not sure I’d want to come back if this is a common case for all their dishes. The Ovaltine here was as classic as they come; likely straight from a giant jar of powder.

If I could give 0⁄5 stars I would. The place was not busy when our party of 3 were seated, close to the cashier. Service was bad… they were inattentive and constantly chatting by the cashier… it took two requests to get tea. After the waitress took our order we waited 25min… and still no food. I saw two workers talking by the cashier and pointing at our table and when my boyfriend asked what was going on and where our food was, she held our order receipt and said«oh, it’s right here.» My boyfriend asked if it was or wasn’t processed and she said quite rudely that it was just sitting there and she doesn’t know what to do with it… =.= They didn’t even apologize, just said nothing, so we left. The sad part is Corner 23 used to be a decent place until maybe 6 months ago when management or business owner changed. Since it’s changed, the food has downgraded, and apparently the service too. So as of today… we’re definitely not coming back again.

You know, this place is absolutely fine by my standards. The way I see it, Wang’s down the block on 17th has far superior beef noodle but lacks snack food and bubble tea. Soho’s on 19th has terrible food but decent snack food and bubble tea. Corner 23 is a pretty decent medium if you’re catering to people who want all 3 of the above(which I often am, as my friend group is always at varying levels of hunger). My favourite thing about Corner 23 isn’t the food though, but that there’s probably 5 millions signs warning you that it’s Cash Only. Hilarious.

My mother and I decided to dine here because we were looking for a local Chinese Restaurant and she remembered reading this place in the papers this one time from a while back. Before I start, bring cash!!! They don’t accept any sort of debit nor credit, they only accept cash. I had their pork legs, three cup chicken and shared a large bowl of beef noodle soup. Honestly, from the food that I’ve managed to eat, I think the food is kind of average. The only food I liked was the chicken as it has a decent taste to it. Also for some unknown reason, that noodle soup had a slight… sweetness taste to it… it was kinda subtle but you can kind of taste it if you paid attention to the taste… seemed kind of odd in my opinion. Now the only things about this place that I disliked was that their washroom was kinda dangerous. If you’re a man and needed to use their facility, then keep an eye out on the floor as you have to step UP to the men’s washroom. I didn’t notice right away that the flooring at the men’s washroom entrance was uneven and nearly tripped because of it. Honestly I think this is kind of a open invitation to getting themselves sued if they’re not careful. Lastly, the table that we were sitting at, plus the one in front of us, was kind of crooked and leaning slightly towards the left side. Quite honestly, I just felt really awkward sitting there. Bottom line, this place is actually not that special. It’s not bad, in terms of food, but would I recommend coming here? Well… only if you’re in the neighborhood and has no other choice in the matter when it comes to Chinese food.

Brrrrr. It was a cold winter night when I visited Corner 23 and the restaurant was freezing. Minus points already! It seemed like everyone had their jackets on and they only had a couple overhead outdoor heaters heating the place. Usually I would be going to Beefy Beef or Number 1 Noodle House, but this place is closer to my sister(whom I went with along with my wife and an out of town guest). We arrived around 6:30pm on a Monday night and the place was packed. Luckily we got one of the last tables in the restaurant. When we decided what we were going to order, it was so busy that it was difficult to get anyone’s attention. Finally we had to walk up to the front to let someone know that we were ready to order. Minus points. The food was surprisingly good and I agree, even a step up on Beefy Beef. Plus points. My sister usually gets the fried chicken so she had that. Not too greasy and not too salty which I like. We had a couple of the satay noodle dishes, beef and lamb. Lamb was by far much better than the beef. In this case, I suppose there’s no net change in points. To top everything off, hot and sour soup, green onion pancake rolls, xiao long baos, plus some milk teas on the side. Within a few minutes of taking our order, it was reported to us that they were out of XLBs. Booooooo minus points. Oh well. Even without the buns, we ordered enough to fill us up. They also forgot all about the extra bowls and hot tea we asked for so double minus points!!! TEA!!! Isn’t that the first thing that should come out? Then they messed up one of our drinks. When we told them the order was wrong, they had no issue taking it back and correcting the order. I guess it happens especially when it’s so busy. We were just happy that they took it back without any fuss. Overall, I’m nitpicking as the food was delicious. Despite some of the above issues, I would still go back for the food so I have to give it an A-OK 3 stars. If they can up their service game, that would be greatly appreciated. Probably not happening.
