Was in desperate need of a haircut one day. Oakridge was on my way home and closes at 9. Im kind of sketchy about chain salons but i thought i would give it a try. I don’t mind paying the money for a cut as long as it’s amazing. They were nice and had enough time to take me last minute. I was going to get a colour done as well, except the receptionist told me it would bring my end time to 930pm and the stylist didn’t want to work late. So haircut it was. End result: my $ 70 haircut(included wash, second level stylist) was equivalent to a $ 10 haircut I used to get on Victoria Drive. Wanted to love this place, but its definitely overpriced.

The first time I visited, I had very bulky hair, I wanted a light layering, and a trim. Before looked exactly like after. No difference whatsoever. The second time: CUT: I asked for layers with the first layer starting below my ear and continuing down, I wanted to keep the length, maybe a couple of inches off. My hair was below my boobs before they butchered it. They gave me a mullet. The shortest layer was two inches long, the longest was to the bottom of my neck/shoulder. COLOR: I asked for my natural haircolour(dirty dark blonde), but to add a bit of red(same colour/tone as my own, just wanted some brightness). They added brown, blonde and bright red streaks. I looked like a hen. I looked like a rooster. I had a mullet. My sister has fair skin and blue eyes. She wanted blonde and dark blonde. The stylist convinced her to go black and white. WHATARETHEYTHINKING?!? EPICFAIL.

My stylist was on vacation so I decided to try Hennessey Salon since it was conveniently located in the Oakridge mall. The receptionists were friendly and nice. The salon was spacious and you can also have your nails done too. I like the products they use, especially Bumble and Bumble. However, the hairdresser was awful. He looked unhappy and bored and didn’t listen to anything I wanted. I wanted a layered cut and syled in the end, and the first thing he said was no. I was stunned. He didn’t offer suggestions. As well, in the end when he was blowdrying my hair, he kept pulling it way too hard that it hurts. All this for around $ 90. Definitely not coming back.

The first time I went there, I booked the hairdresser that a friend of mine suggested. I had called ahead of time that I may be 10 – 15 minutes later than scheduled and they were pretty nice about it. Inna greeted me by the door, took my coat, put a robe on me, asked if I would like something to drink and proceeded to the haircut/wash. Inna was really nice, helpful and funny(we ended up about talking about how she met her husband). The haircut turned out great! Loved Inna!

The abridged version of my ordeal: My cousin bought me a gift card to Hennessey in August. I finally decided to use it in December. One week before my appointment, I decided to check my balance online(he didn’t write down how much the gift card was for). I punch in the numbers and am told my gift card is not yet active. Call #1 to Hennessey(Thursday) — I am told that Hennessey was bought out by an American company and any«active» gift cards were deactivated. I am told by employee X that only an assistant manager can help me, as they need to contact head office. I am promised my balance by tomorrow Friday — no call Saturday — I actually go into Hennessey salon. I speak with assistant manager #1 who was conveniently never given the message about my gift card. I provide all my information for a second time. Assistant manager #1 won’t be in on Monday, but she promises to leave this for assistant manager #2 who will call me on Monday with my balance. Monday — no call. I finally phone the salon around 4:30pm. Assistant manager #2 answers the phone and tells me she has no idea what I am talking about. No messages were left for her. Instead of offering to help me, she keeps asking for my information so she can leave a message for assistant manager #1 to call me back. So I leave all my info for the third time. Monday night I get a voice mail from Hennessey promising that Head office will call me first thing on Tuesday morning. Tuesday — no call I have attempted to call head office 3 times, but I always get a voice mail and have yet to have any of my messages returned to me. Hennessey has absorbed the profit from every«deactivated» gift card and has no intention of providing any service. I’m angry, frustrated, disappointed and appalled. TERRIBLESERVICE.
