Play Palace. That’s what this place becomes from late April to the end of summer(Labour Day). A giant indoor inflatable park for kids. Two bouncy giant slides, two other bouncy inflatables, for toddlers and up, a mini obstacle course for toddlers, a sectioned off area for ride on cars, basket ball hoops, and ping pong tables. Lots to do for kids, albeit socks can get pretty dirty, so bring an extra pair. Concession machines nearby along with a limited number of kiddie picnic tables near the entrance. McDonalds right across the alley, so you can bring in a Happy Meal and eat at the picnic tables. Doesn’t get too hot in here, even on a 30 deg summer day. Highest price for admission is $ 5 per child from 6 – 12 years old, younger children are less. Ample free parking at the north side of the building.

In the heart of Kerrisdale. Not a bad old rink. Cold as all heck, the mats are the old ones that eat your skates. Usually there is lots of parking. It’s a little smaller then regulation size, and there is a drop when you get out of the bench. Named after the iconic Cyclone Taylor. A member of the famed Vancouver Millionaires of 1915, when, yes Vancouver won the Stanley Cup.

Came on a Tuesday. I LOVE how much this rink reminds me of my hometown rink. It even has the same smell. Brought back some great memories. There is tons of space for everyone to get their skates on. The skate rentals are a little old school, but did the job. They lose one star because it is a little pricey at $ 12 for admission + skate rental for one adult and one child. Definitely time to get new skates and save on the rental fees. In the summer, they open up the Play Palace. It is a child’s dream come true! Too bad parents aren’t allowed on the giant inflatable slide:(

A very old, picturesque community rink in Kerrisdale. You can usually find free parking beside the building or in the lot beside the soccer field next door. I usually come here a couple times during the winter to go to public skate. I like it because it doesn’t fill up so there’s lots of room to practice skating skills and just get the legs moving. The skate patrol is pretty relaxed and they let you go up and down the middle. The crowd is varied ranging from kids just learning to skate(they have their own area cordoned off) to students and beyond. They also play music and lower the lights a bit so it feels like a roller rink(but on ice!). Rentals are available as well. A solid neighbourhood rink that doesn’t get as crowded as other rinks around the city. Too bad this city doesn’t get cold enough to have outdoor rinks :(

This is a very old rink with stadium seating named after Cyclone Taylor. I like the high ceilings and the little slivers of natural light that filter down in the afternoon sun. I remember it being Olympic size — but don’t quote me on that.
