I used to go here all the time when I worked in the area. The prices are GREAT and the food is unique and soooo yummy. The Tortilla soup is INCREDIBLE !!! And I also recommend the little grilled black bean and cheese tacos with fresh lime drizzle!!! I Love this place!!! What a gem for the Cambie corridor !!

Passed by this place a couple of times, the out side made me sceptical about coming inside but decided to try it out. I’m Spanish & find it hard to find a food joint that has authentic flavours & this place delivered it. I had a lime grilled chicken sandwich & the flavours were amazing & strong. The chicken is moist & I love their salsa verde. The churo was a little dry. Would come back & recommend.

Great hideaway on Cambie for a delish veg sandwich! Quick fresh food at a good value. Seats about 10 so best for take out.

I’m from Mexico and I really liked this place. It is as authentic as you can get it when some many ingredients here are expensive and not as available as they’re in Mexico. I’ve been there a few times and I always leave happy. I’m disappointed they don’t open on Sundays anymore, although I guess this is a good sign… if they feel like they can close on Sundays, that means the business is doing well, which makes me happy!

The best sandwiches — love the Cubana! Also the Horchatas are delicious and refreshing.

My friend and I walk over regularly for lunch from work. Good tasting tacos, burritos and sandwiches for a good price. Great, friendly service too:).

Likes: Consistently good quality burritos, tortas, tacos, and other Mexican fair. Fast and friendly service. Great place to pick up food when you are hungry. Love the décor(canvas paintings of Mexican movie posters). Great for pick-up. Dislikes: I wish they served whole black beans rather than the mushy re-fried variety(not a huge deal, just personal preference). Dining area is extremely limited and not at all intimate, so I don’t recommend it for sit-down eating unless it’s a slow day.

Decided to check out this place because there wasn’t any street parking available near La Tacqueria(I drove by once mind you). Ordered 4 taco’s with steak and cheese — tastes amazing and fresh. The food quality is excellent and it reminds me of Mexico :) Green sauce is also really good. Service is quick and efficient, food is made after you order and pay at the counter. It was a good little spot to eat in or grab a quick takeout.

I was sure that I had reviewed this place. For a few years I really went here quite a bit and at that point would have given it a 4 but when I just logged in, it was to update my review and downgrade. The original model was unique for the neighbourhood: fill out an order form for an amazing torta sandwich. Back in the day the service as authentic and excellent,. but now, maybe just authentic. I was ignored this last time and not only my order but the order of the guy ahead of us,. messed up. I don’t like being ignored when someone is 2 feet from my face. We had tacos and they tasted ok, but were tiny. My advice is in this area could be a good option if you have a hankering for a Torta,. but nothing esle is worth getting and don’t expect a great experience,. just a good sandwich.

Walked by this place on the way to another place for coffee and have book marked it for future reference on April 22nd2015. I do love the cartoon décor which adds something fun to the picture. Sandwhich was made to order fast, really good and speedy service, however, as others have mentioned the price is very steep for what it is with no sides.

Super delicious soft shell fish tacos. Fresh, fast, delicious. I’m a maniac for their salsas which are the best I’ve had outside Texas or California though they only have two kinds. The chips are always fresh and super crispy, the tortas are hungryman size. While I’m grateful there is never a line out the door when I come here, I don’t get it. It’s some of the best Mexican food in the city. Some of the folks lining up outside la taqueria should walk a little further up Cambie street!

So by default, I tend to order fish tacos at any Mexican restaurant to see where they stand to LA fish taco standards. This is probably unfair considering this place specialises in torta sandwiches. But screw it. You aren’t reading this because user based reviews were neutral in opinion, anyway. I’m happy to report that their soft tortilla fish taco was actually very well made and very delicious. Fish was a heavily seasoned fish taco(not fried). Not sure if this is a regular thing, but Thursday there was a 4 tacos for $ 10 deal. I’d say this was a pretty good deal except fish was +$ 2. So now you’re running at least $ 12. There was of course, other filling options. But obviously fish tacos are the best. I’d give this place 3 stars if it weren’t for the fact it was so tasty. Overall the location is small and on the pricier end for tacos. But I’d justify coming back here to try other items on their menu. And frankly, why are all taco places in Vancouver so expensive… there is an epidemic taco consumer price gouge. I would come back(to try other menu items).

I like going here when I’m tired of other Mexican places. It’s a nice change to get tortas when you’re tired of tacos and burritos. You use a crayon to mark down your preferred toppings on the sandwich of your choice. The staff is friendly and you don’t have to wait long for your food either. The bread has always been fresh, as well as the ingredients in the sub. My favorites are the Cubana and the fish torta. The fish is cooked nicely and the mayo adds the creaminess to bring it together. I have yet to try the tacos so I can’t comment on them. Usually I go here when I don’t want to wait in line at La Taqueria or I’m lazy as it’s close to home too.

My friend left me a post-it with five choices for lunch. I reviewed them and settled on Las Tortas because I’ve never had a torta, have you? I’ve had an arepa and thought it was the same. Nope — different and better. I liked the the bread: a crisp and chewy sandwich roll. Serious flavours and great textures. Fresh ingredients and ample condiments stacked between fresh bread. The best part of the meal was the homemade chips. Stellar. Service is friendly and I couldn’t have asked for more: cheap and delicious. Gourmet cultural delight.

Wow, when my carne asada with cheese came I was shocked at how large the sandwich was. A pretty good torta sandwich, but bread tasted right on the edge of fresh and a bit old. The sandwich fillings were abundant. I was certainly full afterwards. Cool décor at the place, I didn’t try the drinks but I will next time. I’ll be back again!

Soft shell fish taco’s are delicious here. The 2 tacos deal is terrific for lunch. Yum! Atmosphere: limited banquette seating(see photos) perfect spot to pick up a snack and go!

This didn’t exactly live up to the awesome(and awesomely cheap) truck that used to park near my old office in California(fine, that was six years ago), and it was about 4 times the price, but this was still a finely crafted sandwich. Toppings were applied in perfect proportions, but I was looking for a bit more of a flavour punch. My lamb was perfectly tender. But service was friendly and unpretentious. I’d gladly eat a torta here again.

It’s more like 3.5 for me. The sandwich I had was grilled chicken with lime, which was amazing for me. The guacamole and the beans, combined with a bit of green cabbage just worked really well with the juicy chicken bits. The bread that put everything together topped it off, with its chewy goodness. The potato chips that went with this sandwich were pretty good, other than the fact that the bigger chips were a bit soggy in the middle, while others were crunchy. Home made though, so I can’t complain too much! My boyfriend had the steak sandwich that was topped with salsa and the tortilla soup. The soup was simple and delicious, with a hint of cilantro that can be tasted throughout each spoonful. However, the salsa was extremely salty. I don’t know if it was just today’s batch that was salty, but either way, the salsa just wasn’t enjoyable. The place could be a lot cleaner too… there was a couple who left earlier and their table remained uncleared the entire time we were eating. I think you’re supposed to throw out the garbage yourself but still… and the tables looked like they needed a wipe. Another thing that bothered both of us was their use in dishwares. Maybe it’s because they have more ppl getting take-outs, but they serve food on disposable dishes and tupperwares, which seemed wasteful. Lastly, I thought the person(Foodie F), who wrote the review a day ago, was joking when they said they saw a rat trap and a rat poo in the bathroom… but alas, it’s true! After reading it, I urged my bf to go check it out, and when he came out, he confirmed it. He said that the trap is definitely there, although it looked like it’s been there for awhile, unused, and he saw a thing that looked like a rat dropping on the floor, but he wasn’t sure.

First time having a Mexican Torta and boy, am I glad I tried it here. Expecting to walk into a run down shop run by a bunch of ‘dudes’, I was thrown off by the simple and clean décor, as well as the polite staff. I ordered a Cubana and although it looked small when served, it was packed both in terms of quantity of fresh quality ingredients, and flavor. I ordered the guacamole on the side and together, I was thoroughly impressed with how all the flavors complimented each other. Not sure what they put in the guacamole but it’s addictive! This has definitely been one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Four stars only as I have to agree with others in that it is on the pricier side. That being said, I’ll definitely go back! Note that there is free parking in the lot in the alleyway.

I’m kind of digging this place. I discovered it by accident one day while walking down Cambie. I’ve been back several times since then to grab a Sandwich for take out. While I can’t speak to the authenticity of their ‘Mexican Sandwiches’ I will HAPPILY attest to the deliciousness of said-sandwiches, authentic or not. The sandwiches are BIG, juicy & served warm with lots of melty cheese, meat & slaw. I have yet to order a meal-combo as the sandwich alone is more than enough to fill me up. If you’re concerned about ‘blandness’ ask them to make it spicy for you. Sandwiches are about $ 9 on their own… ‘Meals’(including Sandwich, soup or chips & Agua Fresca) are $ 12-$ 13. I love a place that takes a creative spin on a classic lunch item… Tortas does that amazingly well. With about 12 different ‘Tortas’ to choose from, you’re sure to find one that you love. Oh– and they cater too! Yum!
