We came here for a late Saturday night dessert after Banana Leaf nearby. Dropped in probably after 10pm but before 11pm. Only one counter open. Quite busy but with the odd sketchy person. Nothing management can really do about that, and not really a comment on the store or chain per se, but more of a warning about the neighbourhood.

This was the first time having McDonald’s in 10 years other than a coffee and a salad for a burger and fries(I have no idea why all of a sudden I was having the craving). Being on the Mc’D’s that opens later I came here after a party. I forgot to ask the lady at the til for some BBQ sauce for my fries. I am aware that there is an extra cost, however, she forgot to charge me the $$. When she forgot the sauce she apologetically gave me some, however, her manager who was right behind her gave her a dirty look for forgetting which made me feel uncomfortable. I asked if she was okay and she was nervous to respond ’cause the manager was so close by. I had an issue with the way the manager was looking upset at the lady at the til ’cause she forgot my sauce which wasn’t a big deal. I ended up writing to McD’s HQ ’cause of how uncomfortable it was for me to see. I have a problem buying stuff from employers who treat their staff like shit.

Came here for some late night munchies. Yay for 24h locations! Parking here is crappy during the day, so come late at night after the meter maids go home. The seating area is nice and large, with a patio area outside as well. My burger delivered. It was beautiful.

If you like fast food McDonalds. I met one on West Broadway near Granville Street in Vancouver that is spacious, super clean, the sandwich was super fresh, Roberto Machado Filho.

Guilty as charged. McNuggets be my weakness! The moment the thought of fresh, hot McNuggets cross my mind… Let me at ‘em! Regrettably, McNuggets are a once-in-a-blue-moon indulgence. I allow myself a 6-pc box and savour every bite. McDonald’s makes me happy, OK! Get off my back. It brings back fond memories from way back when I was a small child, my mother would take me out shopping on the weekend, and buy me a Happy Meal for lunch. Those were always special trips because she’d tell me that this [outing] was my reward for doing well in school. It never failed to brighten my day! Plus, this McDonald’s has some of the nicest staff ever!

As I walked into the ATM, the little girl was whispering to her dad; ”Dad, I wish healthy food tasted like Mc Donald’s. It took me back some years… I remember the first Mc Donald’s being opened in Istanbul, in my beloved district of Taksim. Being a kid, it was a dream come true, finally we were not going to be stuck with uncool meatball sandwiches, but a burger. A glorious burger, from America with the softest bun and the fancy sauce. Mc Donald’s Hamburger Restaurant. It was by no means a casual spot, everybody had their eyes on it. They made a deal with the country’s best beef suppliers for good patties, the buns was not going to be flown in frozen, but our extraordinary bakery, Divan, which you can still go and have the most amazing pastries, madeleines in particular, was going to make the buns fresh, the hype, the colors, the system and fries cooked in beef tallow, mmmm… After opening, it was a constant line up for the first couple years. Some weekends dad would get up and say, ”Well boys and girls, we are going to Mc Donald’s today”. It was like going on an adventure trip with a happy ending. Couple decades later, the scene has all changed, they are considered the evil of the food industry. I do not stand up the way Mc Donald messes around with food, but all the media attention and the way they are portrayed is because they are on top of the food chain. Do you remember your younger years? The toys and play parks they use to attract children, pretty evil to use children to affect their parents decision, isn’t it? But have you ever thought why toilet papers all have bunnies and elephants on their packaging, universally? Same idea, when it is roll time, children affects the household’s decision. Mc Donald’s uses chemical additions to the food to make it more tasty. So does Chinese restaurants with MSG, but we are all cool with it ”Oh I do not want to know what is in it, but it is just delicious…”, check the labels of food products to actually what other companies are doing, use of corn products is equally as evil. Mc Donald’s makes us fat with fast food… Well as far as I remember, there is a strict practicality when it comes to food, rather than the content or joy of it in North America. We want everything easy and fast, because we need to spend more time on ourselves, so comes the TV dinners, microwaves, canned food… It was not a cuisine relying on freshness, kitchen time and locality anyways. Or do you recall your travel years, having a severe diarrhea due to new diet in a rustic country. All you need is some form of familiar food and you see the sign of Mc Donald’s, the relief of at least some food that is going to agree with your system. Or let me tell you about the glorious kitchens around town, all the cooks beat down fast food and its addictions, will end up(%90 of the time) in one of the chains after a night of partying, because, well we like to party more than the rest of us, after all we work close to a bar with a bartender that is more than happy to trade booze for food. There goes the squab and chestnuts, and comes the drunk faces filled with Mc Nuggets with sweet and sour sauce. I am actually kinda sick of their hypocrisy. What about the production plant and the way they treat to their workers? Well our city has a great deal of immigrant population, simply ask them about their first jobs, and what kind of benefits they had? My experience was $ 7.5/h, grinding shifts and cranky immigrant owners that treated their staff, let’s say not really pleasant, oh not that long time ago by the way. What about the employment opportunity they give to people just looking for an income, but wouldn’t care less for what they do? Open up a business for hundred thousands of dollars and try to run it with that kind and maintain a standard like they do… However I have tried Mc Donald’s in states in couple occasions. It might be me, but the food in states in remarkably worse than the Canadian or Europe version. In all cases I was never able to finish my plate. Especially Las Vegas joint was the worst. I love Big-Mac. Not because it is superior to a well-made burger or have any nutritional value, but it has a sentiment for me, every bite takes me back to my childhood, and I can not erase that, reminds me of my father, gives me comfort. Why am I telling you all this? Well give the boys a break before you say more ”kaka”. I do not base my diet on it, but I kinda like my Mickey D’s every once in a while.
