Why is the service so bad every time?! The food at Oishii is actually decent. I do find myself keep going back for the food. I can’t say I go back for their service though. The waitresses always seem to be in bad mood. They don’t ever great properly or say«thank you.» I don’t ever leave only 15% tips for waiters, but I don’t ever have the desire to pay them any more than just 15%.

Lovingly and artfully presented. Interesting miso flavour, a little different! Varied menu and wonderful rich red walls. Staff are really nice. Usually quiet so no waiting. Good for people watching on Denman too.

I would give this place a solid 2.5 stars, but I rounded up because the Group I used was of great value. To be honest, the food here is between«meh» and«ok», but definitely sub-par when talking about the amazing Japanese cuisine that Vancouver has to offer. We came hungry and left full, but we honestly weren’t really impressed by anything in particular. The sushi was okay and the tempura was just … normal. The food quality was a step-up from your average all you can eat sushi joint but we weren’t expecting much anyways and wanted to get waffles and Nero after so we scarfed down everything and left quite quickly. I guess the service was okay when we went but perhaps it’s a hit or miss since other Unilocalers have obviously had worse experiences…

we came in with a groupon discount voucher. The first impression of this restaurant is not hygienic. The menu is old and dirty, don’t even feel like want to touch. We ordered oishi special roll, decorations prepared is well look but the roll is too small with normal taste, nothing impressed me. The sofe shell crab is cruchy, served with basic sauce. It was overcooked on terayaki beef and chicken. The server is good and polite, by our experience of eating sushi, their food considered pricecy, we will definately not be back again

I used the groupon for 25 dollars worth of food for 12.50. Was it a good deal with the groupon? Yes. Would I come back without it? No. We got a special roll and 2 different don bowls. The special roll had 10 pieces in it, but they were way smaller than I expected. it was the size of a regular sushi roll. The thickness was smaller than many other sushi restaurants normal rolls, and the cut was a bit thinner(perhaps to make it into 10 pieces). Oh yeah, it was also 13 dollars. Yes the roll did taste good, but I would rather get a whole other don and dynamite roll for the same price. The don bowls were alright. They were edible but nothing special. My dish was chicken and egg on top, the chicken did not have much seasoning and the rice was overall bland because of it. The katsu don was okay, I have had better katsu at other places, and it did not use the sauce I am used to with katsu. We ended up having a bill around 30, so we paid the extra 5 on top of the groupon. For 10 dollars each, a don and half of a special roll was not a bad deal, but I would not come back if it was full price, and I definitely would skip all of the special rolls.

went to eat sushi hear only once. the quality made me disppointed. the taste is not oishii at all. the staff is kind though. if you are very very hungry, you can eat the food. the price should be down pretty much.

THISPLACEISFANTASTIC ! Nearly empty, and easy to miss because its right next door to THREE other sushi /ramen places(Vancouver’s little Tokyo), but this place is a HIDDENGEM. The service is causal. Its a family run restaurant. West Coast family, so think west coast sushi. The specialty rolls are pricey… BUTWORTHIT ! So worth it. The sashimi — for sushi lovers — you have a choice of ‘salmon’ or sockeye. An option that most every little Japanese restaurant does not have. The tuna was plump, rich, and full of flavour. The ebi sunomono was sweet, light, perfect. The tempura was crispy. The food — in short — may not have been traditional, but it was AMAZING ! The family who owns /runs this restaurant are so sweet. The daughter and the boyfriend run the up front service. And they are the cutiest. My only complain, would be atmosphere. Its quite plain, the sushi chef left the basketball game on, and it needs new paint and look. The food is AMAZING ! The service is great. With a little TLC in atmosphere it could be THEPLACETOEAT.

The quality of sushi is not great, but it’s decent I guess. But all sushi tastes pretty good to me. The reason I give this joint one star is as follows: I purchased their Groupon for the sole purpose of its claim to being Ocean Wise. Ocean Wise is a protected label and companies must go through vigorous testing before the label can be used. Ocean Wise is a conservation program that uses only sustainable seafood. Kind of important, at least to me. So I went in and looked at the menu — didn’t see any Ocean Wise certification logo. I asked the server if they were Ocean Wise, and she said«Ummmm…» and turned to the chef who said«No» right away. I looked confused and said«Really?» to which he responded«Oh, some stuff». I asked what and he said«Some salmon, like sockeye, and the tuna, some tuna». Long story short they are misrepresenting Ocean Wise. Desperate attempt to gain customers, FAIL.

Dinner Buddy and I visited this place last night to use my Groupon. Not sure where the complaints about the service being terrible are coming from as our server was very nice and accomodating. We sat down at a small table meant for two and when we ended up ordering a lot of food(as DB is wont to do) she suggested we move to one of the booths so that we would have more space. I had the Miso Soup, which was very forgettable. Didn’t taste like Miso at all, and I’ve had instant Miso Soup that was more flavourful. We also shared the Assorted Sashimi plate, Beef Sashimi, Oishii and Bayview Rolls, and some Nigiri Sushi. Everything was served fresh so no complaints there. I’ve had better Beef Sashimi, but it wasn’t necessarily bad. Just a tad too lemony for my taste. The sushi rolls took a bit of time to prepare and we had a bit of a lull in the middle of our meal which DB spent making faces and silly noises so that was at least amusing. I thought the rolls were small for the price we were paying and I definitely suggest sticking with the regular rolls if dining here without a voucher. Also, they made the Nigiri with wasabi between the fish and the rice so DB ended up eating it all! I honestly don’t know what the standard is – half the time when I get Nigiri it is made without. Overall, the experience wasn’t the greatest, nor was the food. But I wouldn’t call it bad. I don’t think I’ll be back here again without a voucher as we still ended up paying $ 35(our bill came to around $ 60) and we didn’t even feel stuffed after our meal. DB and I both had room for waffles of our own! While this is not the worst place I’ve been to there are just too many other places where this kind of money will be better spent.

We came here because we had a Groupon I read the reviews here before and thought we’d pass and just burn the coupon. Glad we didn’t. Food was good. Atmosphere isn’t great but the food was good. Oishii roll and hawaii roll in particular. Prices high without the groupon but very good with it.

Location: Only reason I suspect this place is still in business is because of the impatient hungry patrons wanting food. Food: We had a few rolls of sushi, the Unagi roll which was OK, they were light on the unagi and heavy on the sauces. The other roll a tepanaki roll was very flavorful and good. We also had the combo of the miso soup and beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki… both dishes were flooded with sauce and near soupy conditions. Miso soup was waaaaay over flavored with something I could not put my finger on… but not to salty that alot of restaurants make the mistake with. Service: Now to the heart of the trouble with this restaurant, the service was very poor. Its nothing that is wrong with the one waitress, she did her best with what she could. However it was only her working. It took her 25 minutes to take our order. Took another 25 minutes to get our main courses. Another 15 to get our sushi, and she missed our miso soups until we asked. It seemed to be an ongoing thing as two other customers seem to be quietly complaining about the lack of service. Finally the bill came and she made me due her job by handing me the credit card machine and making me perform my own transaction, it required her to finish it and it even timed out cause she did not come back for another 5 minutes. Overall: I agree with alot of people on here that there is a reason this place is empty is due to the service, but the food is good. I would highly recommend that unless they get more staff to help them out on serving and cooking or if you have the time to spend waiting for food to look elsewhere for a enjoyable dining experience.

Ugh. Not a whole lot of anything great going on here. Mushy fish, weird sauces and too much confetti garbage sprinkled on the rolls. Overlooked rice and rubbery squid. Go to sushi mart. They will hook you up

This place isn’t the cheapest sushi in a city full of very cheap sushi. However, I find the quality to be worth it. I hit this place for lunch fairly regularly(I’m craving it today, in fact!). I’m a vegetarian, so I can’t really speak to the quality of the fish. I don’t eat the stuff. The spicy agedashi tofu is amazing here. It’s a small portion, but the sauce is amazing. I generally also have a yam tempura roll(theirs is better than most with lettuce, cucumber and avocado… I think) and an avocado roll… because I can’t get enough avocado. They’re always super friendly, the food is good, and the prices while higher than some are still pretty reasonable.

If it wasnt for a Groupon deal who knows when I would have dropped in here. This is not a fast food sushi café, but a rather relaxed upper end style Japanese diner with good prices. The Nigiri & Sashimi was good size and as it should be very tasty, the menu has Robata, Donburi, Noodles, Menu; They are big on take out. Service was friendly and a bit relaxed, a TV with a winning Canucks game was a plus. Items on the menu that are a bit expensive are the special rolls, and oyster shooters everything else was on par with the pleasant feel and atmosphere…

Had dinner here at about 9.30 on a Sunday evening. None of us has ever been here but it was one of the places opened till 10 pm that JJ knew about. We ordered: california roll — meh. dint care much for it. Dragon roll — pretty good. well put together, unagi was very moist & plump. Toro sashimi — Pretty good. The fatty«pieces» fell apart easily in the mouth. Alantic Salmon sashimi — pretty good. Sockeye salmon sashimi — very good. Fresh generous cuts. Chirashi — the chirashi had to be the most disappointing. Very thin slivers of sashimi. Generous amounts of crab & chopped scallop but I was looking for more variety of fish. Only 4 thin slices of fish, ebi, squid, surf clam, egg, tobiko, crab & scallops. Prawn Tempura — not bad, fresh and nice sweet shrimp. The batter was alittle thick but it was hot & crispy~ Chopped Scallop cone — I didn;t try this but the chirashi had chopped scallop in it and was actually very tasty Service was meh. They were not very nice or did not come across as nice at least. Food was pretty good overall, but for the price it is hard to give it a better rating since there are so many other choices in downtown…

Had a Groupon, tried it out, wouldn’t have gone if we didn’t have the Groupon but great way to try new places. Worth the Groupon price but I figure it would have been way expensive for what you got. I’m a fan of brown rice sushi, but non to be found in this location. I’ve had better, a bit disappointing, maybe I’m hard to impress. Service was very good.

It’s good, but it’s not out-of-this-world. The tuna tataki was really good but they get points taken off for serving blue fin(my conservation biologist friend says blue fin is highly endangered. Frankly, I’d eat bbq California condor wings and panda steak if it were served to me, but I don’t argue with biologists). The maki rolls were smaller than usual which is refreshing(in that I could actually pick them up with my chopsticks and eat them in one bite). However, the specialty rolls are just way too pricey at $ 12.95 each. For the two of us we had a house roll, a spider roll, a salmon & avocado roll, a small tuna tataki and a vegetable tempura, and the bill came to $ 43.41 incl tax and tip. I think this is a lot for Vancouver sushi, where you can easily get the same meal elsewhere for a little more than half of that. Maybe the quality was slightly better and the staff was really friendly, but I found it just a little too expensive.

I came here with a friend because I bought a Groupon for Oishii Sushi. We had the: Wakame Salad(tasted great but it was a little cold, as if it were frozen before) Garlic Butter Calms(clams were soft and had no gritty sand, great flavor) Sockeye Salmon Sashimi(fresh and packed with Rich salmon flavour) Rainbow Roll(pricey but it was so delicious with the wonderful combination of soft shell crab, avocado, and I forgot the rest because it was so good) Total = ~$ 40 Friendly, efficient service — our green tea was always topped up~ With the groupon it was awesome but without, I’m guessing I’ll come here for a special time =)

I’ve been here 3 times for sushi only, so I can’t speak of the other menu items. I wouldn’t recommend any of the specialty rolls; they are pricey and really overworked. Skip the rolls. Come here for the sashimi and nigiri. Sushi quality is good, and it’s decently priced. I thought the oysters were super tasty, and the fatty tuna here was better than other places I’ve had it in downtown Vancouver. The service was super friendly and attentive. Overall, thumbs up for Oishii.

I have been craving for zaru soba for a few weeks now! Every sushi place didnt seem to have it on the menu though. So we meandered into here and found that they had it, we were sold! We had such a wonderful server. she was so sweet and attentive! The fresh oysters were on lunch special so we ordered half a dozen of those. yummmm…soo good. we also had the wild salmon sashimi, spicy tuna roll, chopped scallop roll and of course, the zaru soba. the sashimi was fresh and good. oysters of course were delicious(i can seriously eat a whole bucket to myself i think!). the zaru soba was a little on the bland side. i have definitely tasted better ones elsewhere(but at least i got my fix). i wasn’t too fond of the chopped scallop roll and the spicy tuna roll was rather forgettable since i dont have much to say about that! i like the décor inside, it looks nice and the people working inside were great. i may come back if im in the area. only because i was very satisfied with the service. =)
