Not terrible, but feels more like a nightclub than a sushi place. ALSO: This place shouldn’t be listed as a one dollar bill sign $, sushi isn’t that cheap(5 $ a roll) therefore it should be two dollar bill signs $$. I got tuna sashimi for around 10 bucks, two california rolls, which came to around 20 $, but I wasn’t very full, perhaps because I’m a big boy. Also, I’d bang the waitresses, they were cute.

After an awful experience at another sushi restaurant, I was starving and on the lookout for another place. I stumbled upon sd galleria, the sushi is mediocre but I loved the vibe of the place, great service, our waitress was super helpful. Karaōke was a plus, it’s a good place to come and hang out with friends and it’s cheap!

Came here on BC long weekend, service was horrible. The place was short staff and some waitress’s just don’t care and talk to their friends that their serving for 10– 20 mins. While your food is sitting on the counter waiting to be served. Our waitress takes our orders and forgets to put in the computer until an hour later when we said«where’s our food». I am never coming back here. The food was mediocre, not worth my time or money. All those good reviews on Unilocal must be from friends and family, because it ain’t that good of a service or food.

The food is terrible and the service is bad. The owners often hire a lot of under age girls to be the servers. And the under age workers serves alchol as well. Not to mention they have late night private parties if u know what I mean. They will even go home with you.

SD is a pretty standard place for my friends and me. It’s like our cheers. We try to come for every big game or fight and stay for a few hours. The atmosphere is really relaxed. Sometimes they have live music. They have a lot of screens and good little things to snack on. Some of my favourites are(in this order): 1) Japa fries(don’t leave without having this; you will be so regretful) 2) Avocado salad 3) Short ribs 4) Any sushi roll 5) Fresh raw oysters Now, when you go here, you MUST have the Monkey’s Lunch! It is a deep fried banana with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The name is cute, and the dish is delicious. Aside from the food, the servers and the owners are really friendly and nice. They will often stop by for a chat. Because of this, it always seems really easy to make friends or start up conversations here. I really like that. Give it a try if you’re into having good food and meeting new people while catching a game or fight!

Blech. Not worth your time. I came for a friend’s going-away party and the service was just terrible and the food was very mediocre. Some of the worst service I have had in a long time. Very spaced out server who moved at a snail’s pace and kept confusing and forgetting things. The food was bland and from what I could see of other people’s meals, the sashimi was large but low quality. I had gomae, agedashi tofu, and a dragon roll. Meanwhile, there was a terrible improv group performing, which meant those of us that wanted to chat couldn’t because we didn’t want to be rude to the performers. So we sat around waiting for food, being quiet, and grimacing at the awkward performance. Hard to catch up with people. Not the fault of the improv group, but just frustrating, since it was still very early in the evening(7:30). I expect those kinds of events later on.

Cheap drink specials, average(or better) quality food at an average price, good for groups, roomy, and pleasant service in a casual, divey atmosphere, Karaōke and Open Mic nights are a little too loud for the talent pool at times, but always entertaining. That’s for the people who want to eat and not read. For the rest of you? SD Galleria Sushi Lounge is the kind of place we’re just waiting for the capital«H» Hipsters to figure out is actually cool. You know, when they realize that all the exposed brick and beam industrial chic –made-to-order restaurants, bars, clubs, lounges, and cafes they’re throwing money at have turned the irony-fueled, skinny-jeans wearing community into a commodity that is now being bought and sold as a lifestyle, and can be labeled as an atmosphere on Unilocal. That’s right «Hipster» is an atmosphere; Not urban vintage, industrial chic, classic futurist, victorian-modern, but hipster. So what’s a Hipster to do when all the groovy stuff you love is way too mainstream? You can log off instagram, You can wear boot cut jeans and running shoes, And you can eat mediocre sushi in a divey sports bar with dishes that weren’t hand-selected to be mismatched to each other. Remember, you’re off instagram, so nobody will even know how suburban you look. SD Galleria does what it wants, And it does so without feeling like a guilty pleasure, Or some aberration contrived to take advantage of what’s trendy, Places like Galleria sushi lounge are fantastic little safe-havens of consistent poor taste driven by nothing but a pursuit of self-acceptance and that feels alright. It’s a cross between a dive bar and sports lounge that serves sushi and has a big neon«VACUUM» sign over the stage so that on open mic and karaōke nights you know *exactly* where people are going to suck And I love it.

I love this place, even if it’s kind of hard to explain why. The drink specials are super cheap. The food is only mediocre if you’re sober. Which is OK, because the drinks are so cheap. The décor is surreal. Which is OK, because the drinks are so cheap. I’ve been here about a half dozen times and the service is always efficient and friendly. There’s just something about the laid back vibe that makes it somewhere I want to hang out, scratched up tables notwithstanding. You get the feeling that you could walk in wearing pajamas, or a 3 piece suit, and no one would bat an eye either way. I like that in a place.

Might not be the best sushi/Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, but it’s in the neighborhood and it’s open late! I’m not sure, but it might be under new management now. The last couple of visits have been better. The service used to be really slow but it’s faster now. What I love about this place is the menu. There are so many things to choose from! They have the typical rolls you’d expect in a sushi restaurant but they have pretty yummy appetizers like bbq butter corn and japa fries. The best part of the menu is the dessert section! Deep fried banana with ice cream, deep fried mars bars, and green tea crème brûlée! I don’t think you can find that anywhere else in Vancouver! They also have daily drink specials that are pretty affordable which makes all the difference for a student like myself. The only complaint I have is that they used to have cheap mojito pitchers on the drink menu but they took it off the drink menu! I hope they decide to bring them back cause those were the best!

The third time’s the charm, right? That’s how many times it took me to finally stay at SD Galleria + Sushi Lounge — two times before I had entered, taken a look around, and had decided to leave before ordering anything. Why? Because this place frightens me. It’s half sushi bar, half dive nightclub, except I’ve never seen it bumpin’ — so it feels like some absurd, neon-lit grunge wonderland out of a Haruki Murakami novel. The Time I Stayed was a Sunday night — karaōke. There were two other tables in the place in addition to our own and they were all way better at karaōke than we were. Rum and cokes were on special for half price, but not being a coke drinker, I decided to spend $ 7 on a gin and tonic. Bad call. I needed the liquid courage to get up in front of that mostly empty room to sing Love is a Battlefield, though. Food: okay. Karaōke lady: awesome. Story to tell later: best part.

SD Galleria really surprised me. On the second floor of the trendy Main St. Area, this sushi lounge is not quite what I expected. The dining lounge is dark with many tvs and reminded me of The Pit pub at UBC. It has a patio with probably the best view on Main st where you can set the snow capped mountains, buzz on Main st. and especially during this time of year, you’ll get a little extra sun. The food is reasonably priced and surprisingly good. They have many special rolls for $ 8 each(most special rolls are pricier), their pink tuna roll is very tasty. Everything tasted fresh and was presented nicely. Totally not what I expected. I really want to give it 4 stars but there are a few things like their confusing décor and neglected beer bottles and empty cigarette boxes on the patio that turned me off. They have many special events and are open late. If you are looking for a loungy, pub like place without the standard pub fare, SD Galleria is the place to go.

Think every sushi restaurant in Vancouver is the same? This ain’t a sushi restaurant, it’s a sushi LOUNGE. In fact, it is really a «sushi-lounge-meets-university-bar-meets-insane-populist-chef» concept. The food isn’t amazing, but it is indulgent(crunchy crunch rolls! Spicey Mayo Japa-fries!) and relatively cheap. And the beat goes on… and the beat goes on… The décor is haphazard and frankly confounding. Why is there a neon Marylin Monroe sign at the entrance, and a lowrider bicycle hanging from the ceiling? Why a neon sign advertising«vacuums?» Why one wall covered in records, and why, for goodness’ sake, a Canuck goalie life-size polar bear? Who cares. Just deny all confusion and enjoy it. If you’re not here after 10pm and slightly bleery-eyed you probably shouldn’t be here at all.

Fairly high score because SD Galleria(formerly Simply Delicious) is affordable. Their sushi portions are average, and the price is cheap and my wallet agrees. The atmosphere inside is definitely like being in a sports bar that likes playing dubstep/electronic music. Even if you don’t like that type of music, it sets the scene, and you get used to it after a while. You’ll find your chopsticks tapping along to the beat; however, i’s hard to have an intimate conversation there, but if you need a late night sushi fix, SD is open until 1. Also, you can’t beat the 99 cent California rolls if you eat in there!

I found myself at SD with a group to watch a friend DJ and found it quite fun! It’s a bit of a foreign concept to have dinner and listen to a live show at the same time but this would be a great place for some late night drunk eats, especially since the sushi is soooooo cheap you have plenty money left for booze. I found the service quite slow and when we tried to order drop shots they had run out of shot glasses and also regular glasses, so they ended up bringing us shots in drink glasses and gave us like half as many glasses of «chase/mix» as we had people… so you had to do your shot and then figure out which glass was the chase and share that with 2 or 3 other people… maybe next time just say we can’t give you drop shots right now cause that was just weird!

VERY well priced sushi and other yummy eats. My wife, who hates sushi, found many other items to munch on. There were 5 of us and we spent a good 4 hours there. What a fun way to spend saturday night! The music was good and the service blew me away. The owner even came over and made us these special shots of sambuca which she lit on fire! We drank and ate the entire time and our bill(for two of us) was $ 135. If you saw how much we consumed you’d be very impressed with that price. I highly recommend going here for late night eats and drinks. The nightly drink special is $ 3!!! Also the atmosphere is so unique you’ll be very entertained.

I will tell you in point form why SD Galleria is my new fave late nite East Van chillout spot: –So cheap –The beats kept me awake and pumped. –Service is OFF the hook. Note: Our server was wearing the most amazing ring that she made herself. Please buy me one. :) –asparagus wrapped with beef, bento boxes, deep fried mars bar. Oh yum! –Funky/casual inviting party den: bicycle hanging from the ceiling, bright record covers, a stage equipped for a band. –Leopard-print couches. Yeah, I said leopard print. –On Tuesday night you’ll OWN the place. –I can wear sweatpants!(GIant bonus) Ok. So in my post-Tales-Of-The-Cocktail-opening-party-fuzzy-head-ness, I can wholeheartedly(though not clear mindedly) recommend this place. $ 5.50 for donburi bowl, $ 5 sashimi plate, $ 2 sushi rolls, $ 2 a la carte options make for the ultimate combo meal that will give your friends food envy. Do it.

Up until three years ago, I didn’t even know this place existed. I’m going to go ahead and say it’s one of the best secrets on Main Street. All they have to lure people in from the streets is a simple window, and a door leading upstairs. Look out for it when you’re around between the 26th and 28th block. It’s great to grab some typical japanese goodies with a buddy, or ten. I dragged a lot of my high school friends to this place after school, and would come back almost every day after then. Kind of like a watered down version of Kitsilano’s Eatery, there are lots of novelty items on the walls and the menu has most of what The Eatery would have on their menus, sans the huge list of ridiculously named sushi, but for a much lower price. I usually don’t spend more than ten bucks. I would recommend trying the bento box, be adventurous and order the larger box. I’d say the service have upgraded since the new management. The servers engage in conversation and are really mindful. The large restaurant is usually very slow in the day time, and more livelier later in the night because it’s one of the few places on Main Street that doesn’t close by 6pm in the evening. The drinks are cheap, cheap, cheap. Perfect for anybody in the neighbourhood looking for a late night drink. The drinks menu isn’t fancy but carry all the necessities. The desserts are alright, as well. I’d recommend the UFO deep-fried mars bar. It’s great that they’re keeping the famous Wingnuts unique dessert alive.

We went right when it opened at 12pm, outside around the entrance was very with pigeon pop everywhere, they should spend some time cleaning outside and perhaps put up a net to aviod pigeons from pooping in front of the entrance. As we opened the moldy door, there was a strong scent which smelt like a typical Chinese restaurant washroom. We really hoped the restaurant would smell better but our hopes were down. The restaurant wasn’t clean at all, oil stains on every tables and walls. They should definitely do some vacuuming, dusting, and better dish washing. We tried to ignore the horrible smell, it didn’t smell delicious. It was pretty empty. we were the only ones but couldn’t turn back and leave. Our order: — fresh oysters(small) $ 4 — salmon sashimi $ 6 — california roll $ 2 — salmon roll $ 2 — scallop roll $ 2 — prawn tempura $ 5 The fresh oysters came first and it looked nothing like the picture, the picture listed 3 but the young man gave me 2. They were small and honestly, I can go to an authentic Japanese restaurant and buy oysters per 0.99 cent a peice for a better/satisfieid experience. This I let go and did not mention to the waiter. They squirted lemon juice on our salmon sashimi which was odd, we didn’t like that. The sashimi were small but you get for the price you pay. California rolls were hard and dry, the salmon rolls came in very small portion, and the scallop tasted odd. slimmy with a fishy after taste. The prawn tempura came in decent sizes we thought until we took a bite, it was mostly batter. Two inches of batter, as we were working on the last tempura, we realized one prawn wasn’t even a prawn. it was a yam that looked like a prawn. We quickly asked the waiter«Why is there a yam in our prawn tempura?» his only best cover up was«…every tempura plate comes with one piece of yam, is that okay?». In my head I was just thinking«we ordered prawns FOR A REASON». Nice cover-up, this restaurant is definitely a rip off especially if you have tried many AUTHENTIC Japanese restaurants. This restaurant will have no match agaisnt those because 1) it’s not authentic 2) restaurants that sell more than 1 – 2 ethnicity of food isn’t usually good. Bill came out to be $ 18, we probably ate half of the food only. The service overall was horrible, only one waiter. It is a Vietnamese family owned restaurant and if I were to compare it to another Vietnamese japanese restaurant such as Samurai Sushi on Cambie, this restaurant should go out of business.

If you’re looking for cheap, look no further. This place offers california rolls for $ 2.50, and salad for $ 1. It definitely exceeds my expectations of how $ 2 food should taste, but it’s not gourmet. One major drawback is the wait — it’s tolerable for 4 people or less, but bring a book if you’ve got a 10-person entourage. Simply Delicious remains one of my favorite places for very cheap eats.
