I had a craving for nachos, so I searched all the restaurants in my area. I saw that this place actually had the lowest price($ 14) so I decided to go. I had not been since it was branded as ‘The Speak Easy’ This place is a lovely set up, with lots of booths, high top chairs and a heated patio. It has NEVER been busy any of the times I have gone, making it a nice place to go if you want to have good conversation and decently priced drinks. On a friday, they had some great drink specials — $ 1 off single and $ 2 off double high balls and they had a list of 100 shots that were 2 for 1. We stayed for over 3 hours and were well attended by our server. The nachos were very delicious, generous with the toppings and layered really well. They definitely satisfied my nacho craving! I would definitely reccommend checking out this place if you just want to go somewhere for no-nonsense drinks. Their food menu looks like it has lots of options and they even do brunch.

I’ve been here on two occasions. First with my wife, it was a Sunday morning. The place was comfortably empty, didn’t smell too bad of last nights booze. The food was a bit too pricey for what it was, but it was tasty. I’d have given it a 3 – 4 stars based on that single experience. A couple weeks later a buddy of mine and I swing in on a Friday night for a couple of drinks. They advertise $ 1 off singles and $ 2 off doubles for Friday nights, its right on the sign out front. We went in, the waitress was nice, and before ordering I double-checked the special. Confirmed. So I asked for 2 doubles of whisky on the rocks. They showed up quick, were enjoyed, and we had ordered another each. 2 drinks later, we asked for the bill. It was over $ 50 for four drinks. Apparently, because we hadn’t ordered soda in our drinks, they no longer qualified for the discount. She completely neglected to mention this when I specifically asked her. My witty friend then asked if she could just bring us a couple of cans of Coke, would that lower the price. Unsurprisingly no. We won’t return. Which is unfortunate considering they’re less then a block from my house

Place is turning around. Tapas are amazing! Great to see them try something new. Too bad the regulars who never leave the bar… leave lol Most regulars would complain as they don’t like change so hope they don’t. Loved the buffalo meatballs and the ohhhh sooo good deep fried pasta as a tapa. Many more, just too good. Four stars only because some of the staff and management, not sure if they were owners, were not that great and ambience inside is just ok.

Wonderful selection of cocktails and shots, definitely a place to go for drinks. Can’t tell you about the food since we didn’t eat there. The patio is the perfect place to people watch.

Average sports bar on Davie. Nothing special, but far from bad. Food is pretty good, service is quick and friendly and the beer is cold. I can’t complain. I have a few friends that live in the area and we often pop in for a pint or two.

Interesting spot. Sat at the bar and watched football. It was not that busy, a few people at the bar and and few people outside. The service was good, we had an order of spinach dip and it was good.

The first thing you should know about the Speakeasy Bar and Grill is that the patio dining section is awesome! The second thing you need to know is that the service is just as awesome. This was the first place my friends and I came to after we were settled in our hotel and we never found a place that was as amazing during our stay. Every request was seen to, the water refills were frequent, the servers were fun and laid back and the food was delicious. I’ve noticed that several other reviews made remarks about how empty the place was. This was not the case while we were there, during the middle of the day. I have to say that the inside is very nice and I would love to come back and see what it’s like at night.

The veggie burger alone is worth going here! I dream about it! There’s never a ton of people there when I go in, so not the best atmosphere… but I’ve always had great service even really late at night which sometimes is uncommon. Try to get a spot overlooking the street, great for people watching ;)

Dead bar — almost completely empty — but I never even knew this place existed until I park my car out front and realized I was thirsty. Specials posted on sandwich board outside aren’t actually the specials. Come here if you enjoy sitting in an empty bar with bait-and-switch.

This is the best sports bar in downtown Vancouver. Why? Because: — it’s ALWAYS empty. Seriously, how do they stay in business? In any case their pain is your gain, because come here with a group of friends and you basically own the place — get fast service, make as much noise as you want! There are no other customers to complain — it has the best patio on Davie. Heated in the winter time. Great people watching — comfortable booths and tables, decent food, reasonable prices — $ 3.50 pints of beer during hockey games! I can’t use enough exclamation points to fully emphasize this!!! *Note: it’s their«Speakeasy Lager», which I think is brewed by Molson. But don’t get all high-and-mighty beer connoisseur on me, here. It’s totally drinkable and it’s $ 3.50. If you want a fancy micro brew, go to Alibi Room. Speakeasy is for drinking cheap beer and watching the Canucks win.

watched a hockey game there tonight jan 20. the last thing i wanted to hear blasting out those speakers was the high pitched voices of the guys inhaling helium balloons off the a&w commercial, in fact every commercial was blasting and they didn’t even bother to turn it down or switch to music like most places do but most people may not even notice. but this was noticeable! all i could hear people say around me when the commercials start was«loud» the food was fine and they got lots of tvs… and then came the bill. we ordered a salmon soft taco for 11.95. the pricing was like this: beef 9.95 /chicken 10.95 /salmon 11.95 the bill came to 9.95 for a soft taco plus 4.00 for a salmon addition NOWHERE on the menu does it say ‘add salmon for $ 4′. we asked the waitress, a dark skinned, shorter brunette working tonight about it and this is how it went: she says«no one has ever noticed that» as if it’s somewhat strange for someone to check their receipt?! i say«but it doesn’t say anything about $ 4 addition for salmon, only 11.95» she says«ok if its that big of a deal to you just don’t pay it» the bill was 56.65 and gave her 56. i’m never going back to listen to commercials and a stuck up rude waitress again!

How can you not love a place that has bottles of wine for $ 15 on a Monday night? I guess if you are under the drinking age, you wouldn’t love it. But I’m more than old enough to enjoy a bottle on their great patio. Speaking of the patio, the views were particularly amazing, but it is situated above street level, so it allows for some primo people watching. Plus they have lots of heaters to keep you warm on those cool Vancouver nights. The night I was there, I didn’t sample any of the food, but it looked like pretty normal looking pub-grub. The quesadillas looked particularly scrumptious!

Went here for a birthday party on Friday and had a good time. I wasn’t in the drinking mood so I was more interested in the food. Nachos and quesadillas were 25% which made it pretty decently priced. The birthday girl was really impressed with the cheap food! I thought it was good value but don’t expect to be blown away by this pub’s food. As for the drinks, everyone seemed to enjoy them. I had an apple pie shot and that was delicious. Minus a star because of the slow service — they kept taking one person’s order and running away before the next person could order. If you’re in the west end and looking for a pub with a patio in the summer, this is a pretty decent place to go.

A crew of us came here after work on Friday for some cheapy drinks and fun in the sun. It’s been a pretty cold June-uary, so you have to take advantage of the sun when you can. I was pretty tickled when my gal pals told me that they had double highballs on special on Fridays. Say whaaaaaaaaat? Hook. me. up! I ordered an «electric iced tea» to start. Sure, it was only $ 8, and looked like a glass of windex, but it was not my favourite drink ever. I decided I should stick to what I know, and order something I would usually order somewhere else, that way I could guage if it was really the terrible mixing or the cheap liquor making my tastebuds feel so insulted. My second drink was a cesar, this way my liquid dinner could at least include a celery stalk. It was just okay. Obviously, it was time to switch to the simple drinks like rum and diet coke, and time to order a real dinner. I ordered a veggie quesadillia, which arrived pretty quickly and again, it was just okay. Everything in the quesadilla tasted store-bought, and processed, so I am sure I could have made the same thing at home, but taken the time to make fresh salsa, and fresh guac,(which didn’t come with the quesadilla, and upon reading Mo X’s review I don’t think I would have liked paying $ 3.50 for a side.) Speakeasy doesn’t really offer us anything different than any other pub, unless you really want to save money on poorly mixed drinks. Personally, I’d rather pay a buck or two more and get something that tastes as good as it going to make me feel.

I went here for the first playoff hockey game on thursday and it was my first time venturing in. The seats were plentiful and there was room for everyone plus more. The beer special was $ 11 pitchers which works well for groups and the highballs were under $ 5. My table ordered the nachos which looked delicious with plenty of side dips(grrrr I hate running out of guac!) but they put chicken on it so I couldn’t sample… Even with the game going into overtime, we still managed to keep the bill pretty low and I always had a filled glass of beer. Def come here if you find all the other spots on Davie are filled to max capacity during the games.

I’ve always enjoyed the great décor, atmosphere and customer service, but tonight the chef outdid himself. The blackened halibut was incredible! Wow! I’ll go back again and again!

I have been here twice and both times it has been terrible. The first time I ordered a burger which was raw. I sent it back. I didn’t bother ordering anything else and thanx for charging me for a raw pile of meat. Second time going we order some deep fried appetizers. There was a total of 6 tables of people and it took over 50 minutes. Really how hard is it to take some pre-ordered frozen food and throw it in a deep fryer. Furthermore, the service was awful as we could only order 2 drinks. In summary the place is consistently empty, I live next door, except for the patio in summer, so hopefully the market will put this place out of its missery. If your looking for a good pub in the area, go to Score accross the street.

My friend and I were walking down Davie enjoying coffee on a great Sunday morning. We were craving some breakfast, saw the speakeasy sign with their breakfast specials and decided to give them a try. We walked in and the place was empty. I thought WOW a nice place but totally empty, but it was early so maybe that’s why. We were being sat but before we were the waitress told me I needed to throw my coffee away. I asked why and she said in a rude tone«ah we serve coffee here» Coffee is not your specialty, I said. I asked if I promise not to drink it while eating would that be ok, and she said«ah no». anyway, so we left and I will not ever return, even tho I live next door to the place. My friend and I went across the street to Score and had a much better experience. NO to Speakeasy, YES to Score! Speakeasy is HORRIBLE Speakeasy will be a waste of your time Just say NO to Speakeasy Speakeasy on Davie Street sucks =)

I’ve been to two UFC events at the Speakeasy. You’ve got to get their early for the best seats, or you’ll end up in a corner on the patio. They’ve got two screens on the patio, but for optimal UFC viewing, it’s better to be indoors. The service is good, the waiters returning on a regular basis to see if you need another drink.
