My family has been going here for years but in the last few months the quality has gone downhill and the prices have gone up. There used to be a great group of staff that were quick and friendly and remembered the preferences of regulars. They’ve been replaced with slow, impersonal wait staff. The quality of the food has also gone down — rotten fruit in the fruit cups, dried out english muffins in the bennies. And to top it off this restaurant used to be very kid friendly and played cartoons whenever we went, this has changed and they only play them at certain times now. We enjoyed this place in the past but will be looking for a new regular breakfast spot!

My friends and I came here and we love it. So many options to choose from and so many vegetarian options. And you can basically mix and match to make your own meal, it’s fantastic. Service started a little slow as our server forgot to bring more water and my coffee took 20+ minutes to get to the table. The food was amazing and the lovely fellow(owner? Manager? Not sure) was so nice and chatted with us and told us we were pleasant young ladies! Love forever! + The Monkees was on the TV.

I give the Sunshine Diner five stars because it was better than I expected. The place is very fun — an old school diner with vibrant colors and photos of classic movie icons on the walls. They were playing The Three Stooges on the televisions. We went for breakfast and were expecting a typical greasy diner meal. The amount of food is great, and the presentation is nice too. They give you fruit with breakfast and it isn’t your typical cantaloupe and honey dew melon, they had kiwis, raspberries, blueberries and pineapple as well. The food was delicious and better than expected. The service was great as well! Our server was friendly, upbeat and fast.

This is, bar none, my favourite place for breakfast or brunch — or even a late afternoon breakfast. I have been going to the Sunshine Diner for at least twenty years, starting when they were at their original cramped hole-in-the-wall location. A place has got to be good when you stay with it that long. In fact, we moved out of the neighbourhood ten years ago and will still drive across town to go there. While everything I’ve tried there is delicious, it’s hard to comment on everything because I have one particular favourite on the menu that I can’t resist. I rarely even need the menu anymore. The front-of-house staff is always good. Great for if you’re on your own, on a lunch date, or with family. While most of the other reviews are right about the wait times, that’s pretty much true mainly for the weekend. It does seem that they’ve gotten faster at those times in recent years. However there never seems to be a wait on the weekdays, at least the many times I’ve gone there over the last few months.

Sunshine diner is awful. The food is like Denny’s why there are line ups for this place is beyond me. I went their twice I thought maybe I ordered the wrong thing the first time(omelette) but nope the second time and another breakfast later it was still garbage. So why 2 stars and not 1? They have great shakes. Go there for a shake and leave the food.

Definitely our favourite brunch places, love the décor and friendly wait staff, and of course the food! They’ve expanded the patio area this summer — YAY! One of the best treats on a weekend morning is sitting outside noshing on their delicious fries, fresh fruit, and best bennies ever. Love the new menus too, as frequent customers it’s great to have more options. Another win for a dog-friendly patio. :)

We have dine a couple of times here due the lovely staff + food and it was starting to be our fav place for sundays, until today… after they asked us to wait for 20 minutes(not on site, as we have a 2 years old girl and don’t want to bother other patrons and the staff), we went back to learn that we are at the bottom of the waiting list because the owner decided so, due we were not there?! I asked to talk to him and I met the most unproffesional character I’ve ever met in 20 years as a customer and as a hospitality proffesional, no empathy at all with a family with a 2 years old kid and, what it worst, we didn’ deserve even a 10 seconds of his time. well, thanks very much unkind sir.

This is one of the most overhyped and overpriced places I’ve ever been to in Vancouver. Stay. AWAY. I never knew you could cook home fries that are both crunchy and chewy at the same time? The scrambled eggs tasted like whatever the pan they used to cook them in and the meat looked and tasted like something a solider would have to eat in a food survival pack. And $ 4 for a «large» chocolate milk which basically was a short glass + milk + nesquick stirred together is comical. $ 38 for tasteless scrambled eggs, crunchy/chewy home fries, toast, questionable meat and a sad chocolate milk is criminal. The best part of our meal was the ice water.

Delicious food! Although I’ve only ever had the eggs benny it is extremely well done. The cream cheese really adds an extra oomph to the texture and flavor. Although arguably the hollandaise is a little bland, very buttery/creamy and could maybe use a little more zest. The vibe is fun and kitschy. The service is good and friendly! I love this place really. It’s gets crazy on weekends cuz, ya know, brunch. Oh and really awesome milkshakes, which you can get booze in too, so pretty much heavenly. Highly recommend!

Adorably renovated and service(older lady) was friendly, they’ve spent a lot of money making this place look the way it does and the menu prices reflect that. Despite service being friendly and eager to help us customize what we wanted to our liking, no one ever came by with water. My girlfriend and I ordered the popeye benny and the sunshine burger. Asked for the burger medium but it was overcooked and dry. Fries were barely seasoned but crispy, presentation is there but kitchen lacks finesse. The hollandaise was rich and no complaints about the benny overall however the homefries were again barely seasoned but also soggy/soft on the inside(refer to pic) which I didn’t find appetizing. Can’t say I was impressed by the food during my visit, wouldn’t recommend it, overhyped and overpriced.

Has been a go to breakfast/brunch spot in Kits for as long as I remember. Last week I had the eggs benny on home fries instead of english muffin and it was outstanding. Might already be time to go back.

I love Sunshine Diner. There can be a wait on the weekend(understandably). Comfortable booths, fast service and good fresh food. The fruit salad with the breakfast was real fruit… pomegranate, fresh pineapple, etc. I drink my coffee like its going out of style(ie quickly) and they always keep it topped up. Its one of my fav«go-to» breakfast joints in upper Kits for sure.

My friend recommended this diner for their eggs benedict, and they were sure on point. There was no wait and plenty of seating inside or outside. We sat inside in a booth and ordered a vanilla and espresso milkshake to share and I had the eggs benny. I really like that they allow you to mix or match the two bennys you get. I got a BC benny and the Canadian black bacon benny. It also came with a side of fresh fruit and potatoes. The bennys were so good. The hollandaise sauce was perfectly creamy and complemented the benedict very well. The BC benny had salmon, cream cheese, and onions and the other had bacon. It was a lot of food, but it was so good I finished the entire plate. Potatoes were just average but the side of fruit had every single fruit imaginable in that cup. The vanilla expresso shake was also perfectly made, not too sweet. Just order one to share cause it was a lot. Service was good, and parking is on the street.

This place does just about everything with an egg. The problem is, none of the fancy names(and high prices) are anything to rave about. when it came to taste The saving grace to this place is its atmosphere and unbelievable fruit bowls that come with most breakfast menu items. The portions are good(though pricey) and the wait staff are friendly. Their coffee is decent, which is mandatory for a good diner.

This diner is SO underrated! I know Sophie’s is good and maybe the location helps. But I’ve had a Sophie’s experience that didn’t seem as fresh as they are at Sunshine. Sunshine’s fruit salad is substantial and full of the good stuff. The benny’s you can do mix and match, there are many kinds to choose from, and they Aren’t stingy on the vegetables/toppings on the bennies(ex: the asparagus/shrimp ones, you get a lot of asparagus and shrimp, not just a piece of each.) Service is top-notch and you can not beat the throwback vibe. I love Sunshine diner.

TURKEY… TURKEYBACON… TURKEYSAUSAGES… WHAMMY! An American Chain restaurant very welcome to Can! A 4 stars review cuz it’s a little bit pricey and it’s not in the downtown core. But look they got TURKEY bacon and sausage… Pancake, waffles and french toast=DELISH I love the *Good Vibes* and the fifty’s décor.

My husband and I came here on a Sunday morning around 11:30 am after a friend had recommended the restaurant to us. There were a few tables ahead of us so we had to wait a bit but the turnover was quite fast. I don’t usually have high expectations for breakfast food because it’s mostly items you can easily make at home but in this case, I thought the food was fantastic! I ordered an Omelette and didn’t realize that it also came with toast, home fries AND fresh fruit(and not just the cheap stuff — they also included blackberries, raspberries, blueberries etc.) My husband ordered the Benny and the hollandaise sauce was made perfectly. We thought the variety of food was good and prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. I would definitely make the trek from Burnaby to try out this place again!

Ok seriously, how did we wait so long to go to this place for breakfast???(or any other meal for that matter as I am guessing the rest of the menu is just as amazing). Put it this way I was so impressed with my food that I took a picture of my meal. I am now one of the people I used to make fun of!!! But before we got our food my family had a blast hanging by the bar sitting in the ’57 Chev bench sharing a delicious vanilla — yes only vanilla — milkshake that was anything but plain. The owner came over and chatted with us and invited our daughter to belly up to the bar where she ate her breakfast watching Bugs Bunny on the huge screen TV. All the while my wife and worked on our generously portioned and well balanced breakfasts. Highlights were many but a few that stood out were: 1) the choice to mix and match Benny’s ATNOEXTRACHARGE! That’s right mixing and matching the two on your own plate not between the two of us!!; 2) Fruit AND home fries included instead of having to choose like at most other places we frequent. Not only that but there was a huge selection of fruit and not cheap ones either(kiwi, blackberries and many others); 3) Bella mushrooms in my omelette. I have never even heard of them before but they can’t be cheap because they were fabulous. As for price it was very reasonable. Everything in my pic was $ 12.45. The mix and match Benny was the same price! I have no idea how they make any money… There were 15 people working! I could go on and on but needless to say we will be going back. I didn’t even get into the awesome atmosphere, the fun and friendly staff, the ultra clean washrooms, the cool décor including an wicked jukebox… Now I am going on and on. Thank you for a great experience and a delicious meal Sunshine!

Great breakfast and super cool retro diner. I loved the retro feel of this place with posters of Elvis and Marilyn. I loved the small old fashioned booths. The service was super friendly and yes, there is a wait line for breakfast/brunch, but the line moves pretty quickly. The breakfast menu wasn’t bad. They had the old fashioned milkshakes, your regular breakfast choices: egg, bacon, egg benedict, pancakes and french toast. They also had hot and cold sandwiches and burgers. I love the BC Benny which was egg on an English muffin with cream cheese onion and smoked salmon. You can have a half order or a full order or mix and match the different benny’s. It also came with the yummy famous home fries. And yes, those fries were pretty good !! I can’t wait to come back and try out the other items on the menu :)
