5 Stars!!! Take Thai Home… I love that name, it rolls of the tongue so easily! We ordered takeout so we could… wait for it… Take Thai Home! The food was piping hot when we arrived and a perfect temperature by the time we got home to new west to consume it. The veggies were plentiful, the meat did not have strange tendon/cartilage attached to it, and the rice was light and fluffy. We’ve only eaten here once, but so far I’m a fan. I will definitely go back!

This place is perfectly lovely. I come here when I’m hungry and want reliably good pad thai in a pinch. Their lunch special prices are on point. For $ 8 you can get pad thai and a side salad, and the portions are perfect. I’ve had both the take out and eaten in the restaurant, and their service is friendly and prompt no matter whether you’re eating in or taking it to go. I’ve never seen it super busy in there, and found it’s a pretty good spot to get some work done if you’re looking for somewhere reasonably quiet where you can eat a good lunch at the same time.

This is the first time I have been back since the expanded menu. I don’t know what kitchen or ownership transitions have gone on in recent months, but I was most decidedly impressed tonight for dinner, compared to how it’s been over many years. I have lived and worked in the Commercial Drive area for 17 years, and I also lived in Thailand for 2 years before that, so know what Thai flavours are meant to taste like. Over a decade ago after the name changed from Thai Away Home to Take Thai Home, the quality plummeted and stayed that way, with quite a consistent mediocre set of dishes over the years, until.. .. well, until tonight! Very occasionally I would order take-out there, not because I expected great things, but because I was tired of other things, and so tonight, seeing an expanded menu, and ordering with three others at our table, I was quite pleased with the offerings of the new Thai-speaking crew in the kitchen. I would concur with another Unilocal reviewer: these flavours rank among the top in the city. We had the satay, the mixed veggie salad, royal pad thai, green curry, and thai fried rice. All were excellent: well balanced flavours, decent portions, authentically Thai. My 5-star review is based on the food quality. The décor and layout are nothing special, and being near the door remains an uncomfortable drafty experience during the cool season. Still, the service is friendly, and as I conveyed, I noticed a significant difference in the food. It’s about time. We’ll be back.

Our family has eaten here 3 times. Each time was consistent quality — so that’s good. It’s not the best we’ve had but it’s a good close(for us) option when the craving strikes. The Royal Pad Thai is pretty good and quite a large portion. The Kang Panang is tasty. I’d give it a 3.5 /5

Under new management. Used to be my favourite Thai place. Now it’s not even worth ordering from. Food is sub par at best and the menu has changed. Really disappointed in the change. Royal pad Thai was flavourless and greasy. Cashew chicken overly salty.

Used to be better. Something is different now… Weak take out. Salad was packed in same container as hot food= wilted when arrived home. Green curry rice was more like Chinese curry. Don’t bother. Many other great choices in the neighborhood.

I usually get my food to go when I eat here. It’s uuuusually delicious. The staff is friendly, the food is good(even if it is a tad on the greasy side sometimes), and they’re quick. I feel it’s a tad overpriced but I keep coming back for that mouth-watering green curry.

Wow, the 3 prawn Pad Thai was soaked in ketchup. Absolutely disgusting. The vegetable dish was low grade. Rice was OK. This was our second bad experience here after a brutal take out order last year where they forgot our order, kept us waiting 40 minutes, and then gave us tiny portions at full restaurant pricing. This place should be dog food $ 5.00 a dish prices based on quality of ingredients, cooking, and service. Yet they charge full prices. Not authentic, nasty quality control, never going back.

The food is fresh, and the place seems clean. If that sounds more like a Trip Advisor hotel review, you are right,… food need to be be more than a clean place to eat it. There is nothing wrong with what we were served except that you get more for less elsewhere, and maybe a touch more authentic flavour. The interior is ok but reminds me neither of Thailand or a cheap Chinese place,. sort of in the middle on the inviting scale. If you are hungry for Thai and in the area and absolutely do not want to walk to the Red Pagoda, by all means, for an $ 8.50 lunch special you will get some rice and something tasty, but no spring roll, no anything with it except a few leaves of lettuce. To me for cheap lunch Thai, Papaya Hut on Burrard sets the bar. If there was a 2.5,. I’d give that.

Bestie and I got a 16oz red curry with pumpkin and prawns, and a large rice to take out, and holy moly we devoured the entire thing(and poutine, too… no judging…) The curry was rich, a little spicy, the prawns were perfectly tender, and the pumpkin was delicious! I would have liked a couple of other kinds of veggies in there(maybe bamboo shoots), but overall it was really tasty! A little more expensive than average for Thai, but very yummy!

I have been to this restaurant since 2010. It is my fav for Thai food. Best in town. Service is always awesome, staff are very nice and polite. Food is fantastic. Great new owner. She is caring about her customer. I asked for recipe and she told me everything and every step how to make food.

This place was a really good restaurant once. What happened? It must be new owners because ITISTERRIBLE. I went there for a quick and easy lunch. The place was severely understaffed. There was the owner and one helper in the kitchen and one staff serving. The place was not full but they couldn’t handle it. I ordered tofu on rice. My friend ordered a soup the server recommended. We asked for a pot of tea as well. After ten minutes, she dropped off my meal. The portion was very small. It was a pre-prepared item. Not made fresh. Then we waited. We waited another twenty minutes and complained twice before we got our tea. Then five minutes later the soup. It was hastily thrown together. Nothing like the picture on the menu. I asked to speak with the owner, she refused to speak with me. I could see her say, no to the server’s request to come out and deal with her business. She felt this was completely acceptable for a restaurant owner to allow this to happen. I’m not sure where she learned what is acceptable business practice but this doesn’t pass the grade in Vancouver.

We come here regularly and have been consistently impressed. My GF has been to Thailand and considers this restaurant authentic and excellent Thai food. The price is also right. The only thing preventing 5 stars is the humble décor and zap strap bound menus. But in terms of great food at reasonable prices — look no further! The Pad Thai is amazing. And the homemade Thai iced tea is very refreshing.

If I want Thai food on commercial this is my go to place. The food is not amazing but decent and better tha most thai places on commercial. The service is a little weird as you have to go up to the counter to order anything but it isnt outrightly communicated to do so. Occasionally the waitresses will come out and assist you but not all the time. I like the pad thais and curries they have but again, not mind blowingly good. Just decent.

I was taken here once for a business lunch a few years and a few times there after(not by choice) I remember not being impressed, however, not be being disappointed either. The service was always inconsistent and the customer service was neither here nor there. Not my choice for thai food in the area but it serves it purpose. The prices are decent and it is very filling. Very decent lunch specials.

Total upstarring from previous visits… I think the owner should always be working the till, he’s fricking hilarious! «can I see some ID… JUSTKIDDING!!!» «ok, goodbye, see you tomorrow» (just a couple of his joyous quips) The green curry was the best I’ve ever had in my life. End of Story! Can’t wait to get back for more laughs and yummy goodness… I hope this stays uphill. It was too fun!

It seemed to be a confusing combinations of friendliness and eratic standards. Our experience. 1. Some of the food was okay. The yellow curry was eatable, but not much like any other I’ve had. It was somewhat heavy and had an almost meaty flavor in the curry. I ordered ‘sticky’ rice with it. The rice was cooked ahead of time and I’m guessing stored(frozen?) in saran wrap, and then microwaved. It was like a stiff rubber puck sitting on a plate. I got another one as a replacement, and it was almost the same. Maybe this texture is normal in Thai sticky rice and I just don’t know it, but I guess it’s not normal. 2. My companion got pad thai. *Inedible*. It looked okay, but something in it was badly burned. You could smell it even a chair away. It was returned and they brought out a new one. Exact same thing again. We explained it was burned both times really clearly, but I don’t think they understood. The thing that was disconcerting was that they didn’t seem to care what the problem was. They weren’t rude about it, they were fairly cheerful, but there seemed to be no interest in trying to improve their offerings. At least we got our money back without any hassle. Like I said, they were friendly(but communication was a slight problem most of the time unfortunately.) I hate to post a bad review about nice staff like that, but if you want a good meal, maybe think twice. Hopefully it changes for the better.
