Food and service was great. It is now called Vietnam House Restaurant. Lots of combos to choose from. My meal was served super fast.

Their Phở is not as cheap as it used to be. Price for a small bowl of Phở is now at $ 7.50 tax included. It’s still pretty decent but just not the $ 6 it used to be. And unfortunately, I feel as though their portion size has also dwindled a bit. My small bowl of Phở only had 4 slices of rare beef and 4 small pieces of beef balls. It’s still my favourite in terms of flavour but the increase in price with a decrease in portion size is the reason why I’ve brought them back down to 4 stars. On the plus side, they’re still the only Phở place I know that gives out complimentary dessert!

Since my last review, a few changes had taken place at this restaurant. For one, there’s been an ownership change. Chill! it’s not what you think, food quality has much or less stayed the same as the new owner had informed me that the kitchen crew remained unchanged. So what’s up with the 4 to 3 stars? Well, here goes. Value — Understandably, the cost of food has risen significantly the last few years, rightfully so, restaurant prices should inherently raise prices as well. But what grinds my gear is that while they’ve risen their prices(from 8 to 9 for number 29, yes it rhymes), they’ve also cut down on the portion sizes dramatically, from generous to standard-size portions. This, my friend, is my biggest gripe. If you’re gonna mess with the prices then don’t mess with the portions, vice-versa, but NEVER do BOTH, at the SAMETIME. That gets customers like me disappointed at your products. MSG — Since the handover, I’ve noticed that the kitchen crew has been heavy-handed with the MSG, from their consommé soup to dish #29(Phở Bo Kho) and #36(Bun Bo Hue). Yes I know these by numbers by heart cause I am awesome like that. Now, I am not an anti-MSG advocate, in fact, I am quite the opposite. However, if I I am sitting at your dining table, after finishing off a bowl of noodle soup with half of the soup remaining, with my lips beginning to shrivel up, dying for a glass of hot tea then there is definitely something wrong with your use of MSG. All in all, the quality of the food has more or less remained the same, but the portion size has shrunken while their prices raised. The value isn’t as good as what it used to be. With another phở joint that just opened up next door(Phở Win), I am strongly considering of paying them a visit next time before coming back here again in the near future. I still recommend this restaurant though.

Cheap yeah, but the atmosphere is campy and the music made me want to hurt myself. There are way too many places to go for noodle soup in the area and I’m not sure why this place has such high reviews, but I’m glad someone likes it. Cheap isn’t everything.

I rarely give below 3 stars and here’s why: the wait to order food was 10 – 15 mins, another 30 mins or so for our food to arrive. This is a Phở place, you don’t really need to cook my noodles or my rare beef. The restaurant wasn’t even full or busy. The worst thing is, they were out of bean sprouts! How is it possible that a Phở place be out of their must have bean sprouts? Anyway, to be fair, their food taste like the regular Phở and pricing was fair. They have side orders like skewers for 3 $ each, or piece of pork chop for 3 $ for those that want extra meat with their dishes. Parking available around the area.

Another Vietnamese joint in the a sea of other(and some lesser) establishments. Parking is available along Hastings outside of rush hour, as well as the side streets. The inside is surprisingly bright, and is quite large(it takes up 2 units in the building). The staff seem to consist of a family, and even the young son helps out. Their meals can be ordered as a combo, where you get either spring rolls, a cold drink, or a sweet bean dessert. The #27 lemon grass chicken($ 10) actually comes with 2 pieces — quite the deal! The meat is nice and tender(the Vietnamese really get this part right), the MSG soup is nice and clear, and the noodles are springy. Beautiful. Their special(according to the window) is chicken curry — time to give this place another go.

solid 3.5 stars. Good vermicelli noodles, spring roll, just the sugarcane shrimp didn’t look as tasty as pic. #54. nice touch w/the glass bowl, plenty full of fresh cut up veggies, prob. more than usual; just wished the chopsticks were wrapped, can u imagine how many fingers touch them at the table? Ice coffee is great — more strong than sweet. easily top 5. just loses a star for average décor but to be expected.

The food is delicious here! Definitely a hidden treasure on Hastings! I ordered the lemongrass chicken with noodles on the side. They gave me a whopping 3 large chicken steaks! The portions are generous here and for a good price! My mouth is watering just thinking about coming back!

The food is good overall, but check your bill to make sure it has been charged and added correctly.

This is my favourite phở place in Vancouver. It’s very cheap, the portions are generous, and the staff is really friendly. And the food is fantastic. Ok, I’ve only had the bun and phở and spring rolls, but I always get what I want.

Your typical East Van Vietnamese hole in the wall. And this is a compliment considering the fierce competition in the area. I typically grab a phở dac biet as my litmus, but tried their curry chicken rice since they advertise it as their house specialty on the window and on their menu. The curry is your typical Viet curry — similar to most Asian curry with the use of coconut and more of a liquid consistency. I enjoyed it but it seems like everyone likes this joint for the cheap and generous portions of food from their phở and combo plates. Not bad but pretty hard to stand out in when you’re so close to Bao Chau, Petit Saigon and Le Do.

Thai Hang — the perfect hangover food that won’t break your wallet. Like any good Vietnamese place, the décor is basic — not the cleanest restaurant on the block but certainly not dirty. My friends and I like to refer to this place as the ‘no-no dumping’ place because of a nice handwritten sign in the back parking lot. Oh yeah — there is actual parking for this place(!!!) and a handy dandy back entrance from the lot. One of my favorite things here is the lemongrass pork chop — with char(ry?) marks of barbeque goodness. Not too fatty, full of flava. The phở broth is also spectacular. Phở reals. And the icing on the cake? All menu prices include tax. Easy to add up and easy to tip on. ‘Nuff said.

It’s not often I find myself leaving a phở restaurant satisfied and craving more phở regardless of how full I am. Thanks to Thai Hang, I know exactly what that feeling is like. Their broth is rich in flavour, perfectly seasoned and served at a perfect temperature. My house special(which consists of the usual rare beef, tendon, tripe, etc.) was tastier than several other places I’ve eaten at. The meats were not chewy, did not leave an odd aftertaste and downright delicious. You think it doesn’t get any better than this, a perfect bowl of phở, but it does! Thai Hang offers a combination with the phở of your choice! You can decide between coffee(hot or cold), or a spring roll. The spring roll I had was crispy and served with a dipping sauce that enhance its flavour. My iced coffee, however, was a little on the thick/strong side. If I had one complaint about this restaurant, that would be it. In terms of cleanliness, the establishment in that particular part of town is old so Thai Hang does a good job in maintaining what it already has. I applaud them for that. Also, if you’re wondering about parking, there’s some along the side streets and designated parking in the back. Be careful parking along Hastings though. At certain hours of the day it becomes a tow-away zone. Bön appetit!

After an afternoon of getting caught in heavy rain/hail showers and a change of clothes, i was finally dry but cold and hungry. Phở was the only solution. A friend living in the neighborhood mentioned that Thai Hang Restaurant is his regular place for a phở fix. Food was decent and portions were generous. I ordered lemongrass chicken with chicken vermicelli broth and a side of spring roll. Spring rolls were hot, crispy and very tasty. I could have eaten my own body weight in them! Lemongrass chicken was quite greasy but the broth/noodles were tasty. Staff were friendly and service was quick, within a minute of walking in i had a menu and some green tea in my icy hands. I wouldn’t travel across town to eat here specifically but if you’re in the area it’s a good place to fill up on tasty and inexpensive food.

I ordered a combo plate with one pork skewer, one beef skewer a spring role and vermicelli noodles. ITWASSOOOOOMUCHFOOD!!! I can’t believe how much food I got for $ 7.95. Not to mention the fact that it was super yummy. Highly recommend this place. Staff was really friendly and didn’t even mind that I wanted extra fish sauce… and they didn’t charge me for it.

My favourite favourite favourite phở place yet. Nom Nom Nom. The broth is to die for, tons of noodles, and they often bring you a tapioca desert. Great spring rolls, too. Service is fast and perfunctory. If you want great Vietnamese iced coffee though, head to Bao Chau up the road. I don’t know what the deal is at Thai Hang but it never seems to filter through properly so you never get much. Not worth it, but everything else sure as heck is. It’s always solid, cheap, fast, and don’t forget, cash only. March 2012: NOMOREFREETAPIOCA. Dammit.

Phở… just saying it I smell basil, lime, cilantro, and lemongrass. At Thai Hang they make a rich beefy fragrant broth. My favourite is the rare beef phở, where the beef shank is sliced paper thin. They also make great spring rolls and«broken rice» dishes served with grilled meats… a must try because the marinade is caramelized to the right amount of sweetness and the meat(choice of chicken, pork, or short beef ribs) is grilled perfectly. Bonus: a yellow mung bean and agar agar dessert soup is served with every order

If you love Phở soup then this is a reliable choice. In a very informal setting, this is a good lunch choice for quick yummy inexpensive Vietnamese favourites. I recommend the beef noodle phở soup and the crunchy spring rolls. Have seen other diners eating some delicious looking grilled chicken dishes, but still haven’t been able to pull myself away from the phở. Remember to bring cash though, they don’t take any cards.
