Went on a weekday with my family when we had some relatives visiting. I had booked ahead of time to order the chicken with sticky rice which is my all time favourite. The restaurant was rather slow considering it was a weekday and lunch time. Delicious! Service is a little slow but that’s kind of expected from a Chinese restaurant. Food is never a disappointment here though.

We stopped in here and grabbed a table for lunch. Noticing half the tables in the place have nice table cloths, and half just a bare table with no settings. Most of the tables with no settings had dirty dishes on them. We found one with no dirty dishes… We had the Won Ton soup. It was ok, Kind of Bland flavour wise. Also kind of pricey for a 16pcs of Won Ton soup @$ 12. Upon paying was the real shocker. Into the kitchen area, there was garbage of all kinds all over the floor going into the kitchen and it looked very unclean. Probably wont return here now.

Food 2.5÷5 Service 4⁄5 Ambience 2⁄5 Got recommend to try out this place from friends. My sister and I decided to just give it try since we both agreed on eating Peking duck for dinner. We arrived around 7, steady dinner crowd. I noticed almost every table had some sort of hot pot and Peking duck, which to me was a good sign. Service was really good, super attentive and talkative. Had a genuine conversation with a waitress, which was nice! Haha! The surroundings of the restaurant was laid out like any typical Chinese restaurant. A little dated but like I said, very common in a Chinese restaurant. We ordered shark fin soup(3⁄10), super bland and tasteless. Maybe it’s because they boast the fact that they do not use MSG and there was obviously none in the shark fin soup. Peking duck(5⁄10), as expected at anywhere else, we asked our waitress to change the lettuce wrap into a noodle type dish, they charged us extra $ 5 for plain chow mien noodles, the duck chow mien noodles were horrible, also extremely tasteless and soggy. Deep fried tofu(5⁄10), also as expected at any Chinese restaurant, stuffed chicken wings(6⁄10), nothing special. Food was very mediocre, although we tried lots of food and took like 5 take out boxes of food home, I don’t think I would eat there again lol! I also found the prices to be a little more expensive comparing to other places that have the exact same dishes/quality. Also, they gave my sister a glass of water with blood on the rim lol!

We special ordered the peppercorn pig stomach soup and they put wayyyy too much peppercorn and it was so spicy. It totally called the soup taste. The fried tofu was so good! It was soft inside and really crispy. Pea vines with garlic was yummy too! To conclude, way too expensive for what we ordered. Not worth.

Loved the fried tofu but everything else, particularly the roast pigeon, was way too salty. Not going to bother coming back again — there are much better options out there

I came here with my 6 other friends because they usually eat at this restaurant during lunch hours. However, we came by at around 7pm. The squid was salty, the deep fried pork was also very salty(but i like the level of its spicyness), the honey chicken was way too soggy. In contrast, their seafood chowmein was delicious.(That was the only reason why I gave them an extra star from a one). I felt pretty disappointed with the other food we ordered, most especially when the bill came and had to pay $ 115. It was too expensive and was not worth the price.(Although, I heard that it’s cheaper every lunch hours or every tuesdays). I would rather choose No.9 chinese restaurant from Lansdowne.

NOMSG!!! This place doesn’t look like much from the outside but once you’re in, it won’t disappoint! The flavours are so well-balanced. Excellent traditional Chinese food. The tofu and chicken with sticky rice has no shortage of rave reviews so I won’t go there. The Peking duck(2 course) was really delicious and they do not skimp on the duck! The winter/bitter melon with beef is really well done for those who had acquired the taste for bitter melon. Even the soup of the day was amazing! The chef told us he uses dates in place of sugar to add sweetness to the soup. I’m so excited to try more from these guys!

Wish I had known we were coming here for dinner and then I would’ve known to check Unilocal and order the sticky rice chicken! Oh well, maybe next time. This was a good Chinese dinner. I do appreciate a place that has pictures on their menu and they have BIG pictures! I can’t name all the dishes we had… we had a beef and lung soup(the broth was really good… I even tried a piece of the lung, not my thing but I’m sure it’s ‘healthy’), deep fried tofu squares(watch out, they are hot but good!), beef and bitter veggie dish(too salty), prawns(I don’t eat these but they looked good), cha siu(too chewy but tasty) and gai lan(good). They did screw up our advanced order as we had called ahead the day before to request the razor clam dish and somehow they didn’t have it(maybe sold it to someone else?). They did, however, compensate by giving us free steamed egg desserts!

My family and I started trying out this restaurant back when it first opened a while back. Ever since then, the quality has just been getting worse and more inconsistent. Some menu items are generally a hit for us such as their Signature Deep Fried Sticky Rice with Chicken, Ginger Seasoned Crab and Cream Sauce Lobster with Noodle Base. The wintermelon soup is also one of my favourites. Vegetables are generally ok in flavour. Soy Sauce Chicken is usually pretty good as well– tasty but not too salty or dry. On this particular occasion(Mother’s Day) the Oysters and Vegetable Bowl was described by my parents as tasting literally like nothing. I don’t know what nothing tastes like but I’m guessing it was bad based on their faces. The Corn Cream Soup over Battered Fish also tasted terrible. It was all just batter and the fish was all separated inside(if there was even any fish at all). We ordered a 2.9lb lobster over cream base and noodles and the noodles were NOTFULLYCOOKED. The staff here are quite friendly(not sure if its because we’re regulars or if its they’re normal behaviour) and went back to the kitchen to remake the noodles for us. Overall, the place is always super busy so if you want to try it out for yourselves, make sure to book ahead of time, don’t go on a busy occasion, order their specialties and hope for the best! Or if you want to avoid any disappointment, just go to Starlight Kirin. That’s where I’ll be going from now on.

Go at your own risk. Ordered Chinese Pea Greens and found a beetle about 1″ inside. Food is average, environment noisy and not much atmosphere. Service is poor particularly when busy. I have the impression of imposing upon them whenever I ask them for something. Special soups were very expensive and not worth it. Ordered Lobster last time, was charged 2.75 pounds but I estimate the lobster served to be below two pounds. Generally, a very disappointing dining experience. There are a lot of better alternatives. Never again!!!

Please check your bill! Came here on a 10% off Tuesday dinner but only tax was omitted on the bill$ 327. When we paid with a credit card the waitress came back tell us that we must pay cash to have the bill tax free. I asked her about getting 10% off because it was in the ad. She ignored my question couple times then finally the younger male cashier recalculated the bill, with 10% off + tax $ 304 and we can pay with plastic. WTH! They will pull anything they can and take advantage of ppl that’s not familiar with tipping on the cr/dr machine like they would help u select 15% tip while their service is worth 5%. Servers are so fake and have no smiles, eating during work. I asked the waitress handing down dessert plates a question, she starting to laugh and not answer bc her mouth was full of food! Rude and gross! Despite their service, food is solid. Reasonable priced. Food 4 stars Service 0

It located on Marine Drive and small Chinese restaurant. It looked pretty old fashion restaurant which using yellow table cloth on the table and outdated designed. Found some great review about this restaurant and gave it a try. However, it turned out quite disappointed and total disaster with their services. We went there for late lunch(around 1.30pm), it only had 2 tables left when we walked in. Only 1 waiter on the floor, we have been told to share table with another Caucasian couple. O, well… we decided to stay and eat there still… I found the chinaware, menu, cloth and chair was quite sticky. Anyway, we just ordered our food from lunch menu and got out so quick. I had beef congee, congee was ok but beef so chewy. My hubby had stir fried beef w/flat rice noodles in black bean sauce which ok too, but too much sauce. Honestly, nothing wrong w/foods but the service and the place of cleanliness won’t make me return.

Came here for my mother’s birthday as a party of 7. We made reservations and only waited about 5 minutes before being seated. The décor is of your typical Chinese seafood restaurant variety: elegant and brightly lit. We ordered pork lung soup, snake stew, their signature deep fried sticky rice with chicken, gai lan, roasted squab and a rock cod. The soups were delicious but a bit on the salty side. The chicken was good and is a must try if you’ve never had it before. The top layer is fried chicken and the bottom layer is sticky rice. Such a delicious combination. The rock cod was steamed nicely but the soya sauce was a bit too salty. All in all the meal was very enjoyable. The only downside was them running out of steamed egg dessert which we had asked for at the end of dinner. I didn’t pay for the meal so I don’t know how affordable it was but I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for some good Chinese dinner and are willing to spend.

Came here a couple of weeks ago. Hard place to find parking when you have dinner later. There is parking out front of the restaurant but it shares the lot with other businesses. Even with reservations we had too wait for our table. Started with the wintermelon soup which was really tasty. Next came fish fillet with Chinese veggies. My parents thought this dish was a little salty but it was fine for me. Next came the crispy chicken on sticky rice. This was one of my favorite dish at this restaurant. The final dish of the night was deep fried garlic spareribs. Tons of garlic which gave it a nice kick. All the dishes at the restaurant were of a generous portion. Even though the restaurant was busy that night. The service was still very attentive. Would recommend this place but make sure you have a reservation.

Came here with the family and it was actually really good! Soya sauce chicken was delicious. Plump, juicy, lots of great flavours. Highly recommend it. Lamb hot pot was all right, nothing to revel about. Honey garlic ribs — huge and delicious. Large portions for every dish which is always a plus! And it’s clean inside. Woohoo! For an east side Cantonese restaurant, this says a lot actually. It was packed during dinner service, but will need to come by again for its lunch or late night menu.

This visit was a couple of things. 1. An anticipation 2. Are you man enough? Let start with #2. Are you man enough for this: Silkie chicken wrapped in pig stomach and boiled up for soup. Not quite the same but think haggis! It was not bad!!! It was boiled with a lot of white pepper corns, so it had a bit of a heavy pepper taste but was not spicy. I liked it actually. The pic above is the cut up version. The stomach was actually intact, whole, in the serving vessel. Now the highlight of the evening. The glutinous rice chicken. I came here after seeing Tracy E.‘s pics This was the heavy hitter I came for. I’ve had this only once. Once at an village style Chinese restaurant in Chinatown called Ho Ho. The chicken I had tonight was very similar in terms of concept. Preparation and ingredients were the difference. Tonight’s chicken was roasted, deboned, sat ontop of sticky rice then panfried again for crispiness. The chicken at Ho Ho, was deep fried and deboned. The sticky rice tonight had mushrooms and dried shrimp in it — a more traditional Cantonese approach. The sticky rice at Ho Ho is straight sticky rice with nothing added — village style. If I had to choose, the edge goes to Ho Ho for the deep fried greasiness! It’s a wicked dish either way! All other dished were cleanly executed in terms of flavour. Not heavily seasoned with MSG. I like that. Lastly I had something I haven’t had in a long time. A milk custard. Done quite well and it was infused with a bit of ginger. I personally found the ginger a little too heavy, but it was still quite good. Coming again.

Salty. I went for lunch. The combo came with a soup. I think chicken and corn — salty. I ordered chicken and black bean sauce chow mein. I received beef. The server noticed after he brought it, and asked me if beef was OK. I wasn’t aware that a beef recall was happening at that time, so I said it was fine. All I could taste was the salt. no black bean, no beef. Not sure if it was the salt, the beef or something else, but my stomach was irritated for a week afterwards.

Came here for some late night munchies. Parking is pretty plentiful, because every other place in the strip mall shuts down way before the night is late. The place was completely deserted at night. The interior is actually pretty classy so hopefully it does better during the day. The kitchen was a bit amusing, as there is a tiny short window with a curtain where the cook can slide the food through. The waitress literally bent down and yelled our order through the window. Had a good laugh. Once in a while you could also see some eyes peering back out. There is a «late night»(da lang siu ye) menu available on top of the regular menu, but this menu is 100% in Chinese. So, be sure someone in your group can read the language if you want access to this one. Why they didn’t put English here is completely beyond me. There was enough room in the menu. I had the seafood congee and the salty peppery squid. The congee was quite pleasant, with just the right amount of toppings(ginger and green onions). The fish chunks had a great texture, and were also just right. Not raw, and not mushy. The salty peppery squid was a touch light on the spices, but it wasn’t anything bad. What was interesting though was the flour they used. We couldn’t quite figure out what it was, but it seemed a lot less«fried» than other places. The batter felt more like something you’d find inside a bag of chips than a piece of KFC. I thought it was fine, but my buddy Vincent N. wasn’t too happy. This place is open late(it closes at 0100 most days iirc) so now there’s another option besides No.9. I’ll be back for sure to try out more goodies.
