It’s White Spot. I know what to expect. It’s nothing terribly spectacular. I only eat the burgers. However, this location is different, and the reason why I am writing my ONLY White Spot review. There is NO formal wait-staff. You enter the restaurant and it is a fast food style set up. You line up to order food. Menu is on an overhead menu board. Pay. Seat yourself. I also noticed that the prices appear to be lower than the normal restaurants. Maybe«student pricing»? I suspect they changed to this fast food style relatively recently to be more cost effective for the predominant student customers. The menu is stripped down when compared to the regular restaurants. Burgers mainly, and they set up the burgers like most other fast food outlets, value combos. Once you order and pay, you get a number that is on a stand that you place on your table. They then bring your food out to you once it is prepared. You also get glasses for self serve soda pop, but I drank water. The inside looks like any other White Spot except for the service. Burger tasted like any other White Spot burger.

I have always heard this place has very good food, I had never been so finally tried it. When i first arrived the hostess was very quick to help me. She sat me and got me coffee right away. However, i waited nearly 20 min for the server to come to take my order. I know it was Saturday and they were very busy. I was almost tempted to leave and then she showed up. I ordered soup(Chowder) and a sandwich that came with fries and cloe slaw. She did bring the soup quite promptly and refilled the coffee. Well the food did come i was incredibly surprised! I don’t like bread normally but, i thought i would try it. It was very good. The food really was delicious every one was right about that. I do highly recommend this place. Well worth the wait after all, and i am sure that just happens sometimes. The wait.

Located right next to the David Lam Library at UBC(where 99 Chairs use to be), and with and extensive To Go menu, many student often come here to grab a quick lunch to go. Interestingly enough, if you dine in and select a dish that is also offered on the To Go menu, you would be paying the same amount of money for if you were to order it to go — except with the to go, you get the extra soft drink included. Certainly, a soft drink from White Spot probably cost them nothing, but I’m sure they would charge you separately if you were to dine in and ordered a drink to go with your food. Service here can vary from time to time. Almost all the servers are employed by UBC Food Services. In other words, do not compare their service level with one at an actual restaurant. During frantically busy hours, service can be very lacking and sometimes non-existent. Don’t get me wrong, there are still servers around during those hours. But for the life of me I can’t seem to figure out why not one of them can come to my table when I am trying to get their attention. The food is alright, decent for meal. But what I am most pleased about is their yam fries(or sweet potato fries as they call it). Cajun seasoned and cut just with the right size and thickness, I always add money to my order just to make my side of ordinary fries to yam fries. A good place to go to when you’re on the UBC campus for lunch or dinner, but of course, not something so amazing that I would travel across the city for.
