Creative, nice place for a good(big) breakfast. Pricey(spent $ 75 for 4 people). Popeye benny was delicious.

When it is important for you to start your day with a good breakfast it can be difficult to find a good place in a tourist city. Luckily we had a great place recommended to us in Victoria. In the James Bay neighborhood there is a nice breakfast joint called Cup of Joe. This place has a great variety of good breakfast dishes(several types of Eggs Benedicts, Omelettes, etc.), friendly staff, and a really hip ambience. We went back three days in a row to try new items and were not disappointed. Try it out next time you are in Victoria.

Meh. Saturday mornings can be busy for brekkie joints, I get that, but it wasn’t really hopping when we arrived so we expected our order to arrive within a reasonable time. Well, much to my dismay it took almost half an hour for scrambled eggs and toast — the waitress was very apologetic and gave us a decent discount, but we couldn’t help but notice that at least 2 other tables that arrived after us were served first. Then, of course, there’s the food. Big MEH on that one. The eggs were barely even yellow, I wasn’t offered any substitute for toast(I’m gluten intolerant), and the TINY serving of pan fries was deplorable(seriously, it’s the cheapest thing on the plate and all I got was a couple mouths full). Seriously understaffed. It’s too bad this is my local brekkie joint — I’ll travel for better quality and quantity.

One of our favorite out of he way breakfast places. Visiting Victoria 3 – 4 times a year we always stop at Cuppa Joes several times. Excellent food and service

We hit Joe’s for breakfast as friends recommended the eggs benny. My foodie partner had been going on about these darn bennies for two days. An interesting selection of bennies; creative and good use of colour and texture. The«classic» arrived with mile-high poached eggs smothered with hollandaise and looking gorgeous. However, she pronounced them«okay» — more than edible, but not the«best» — My order of one pancake, one sausage, and a scrambled egg looked very yummy. The pancake, though, was tough, requiring major muscle power to cut through until it loosened up with generous amounts of real butter and very delicious syrup. Tasty, and loved the real butter. The walls are covered with the signatures of hundreds of diners, and some pretty cool art work. Good music playing. Christine, our waitress, was just lovely, a cheerful in the morning type who kept our coffee cups full and treated us well. Joe’s is fairly priced; not cheap(!) and the portions are a good size. It’s a small, local operation with a nice vibe. Keeps daytime hours, so don’t plan a supper here. This is right around the corner from where we stay while in Victoria, so we will likely meander in for toast and coffee or a noon sandwich. Joe’s is located right at «five corners», a famous landmark intersection in James Bay. A great spot if you are walking from downtown Victoria across to the Dallas Road breakwater or Beacon Hill Park.

Been here once. Got a benny because the sign outside brags ‘Best Benny’s in BC’. It was good! Maybe not the best but definitely notable. I’ll go back for the benny’s! Really easy going atmosphere inside too. Coffee isn’t anything special.

I like Cup of Joes. In a city that’s bonkers about breakfast, this is a good little hide. No crazy lineup, but there’s usually a bit of a wait for the food, and they tell you that up front. Last time I was there, three tables arrived at once, and weren’t seated right away. The guys behind us were pretty shocked. «Whoa, since when is Joe’s a thing?» The overall feel of the place is cute, and very local. The coffee is good, and the food is tasty basic comfort type food. This is a great little spot for a casual meal. Try a benny. Or anything really, I haven’t been disappointed yet. Service I’ve experienced has been very very relaxed, but totally competent. And I appreciate that. If you want a forced smile, and a million fake«thankyou!“s, «super!“s and«great!“s from girls hectically running around, go to McD’s. For when you’re a little hungover, or you’re just too tired and you really want some b&e, wander down to Joe’s and they’ll fix you up.

Cup of Joe is a great place to get breakfast food throughout the day, it’s relatively inexpensive, the food is good for greasy diner and there’s usually not much of a wait for a table. What brings me back is the breakfast, their Benny’s are rad, their omelettes are rad, I hear the beef dip is great and their sandwiches look pretty killer. Their coffee is pretty decent and it’s close to my work, which makes it a nice Friday lunch spot. The service isn’t that great, but it’s mostly because it’s a pretty small operation. They didn’t have any burger patties on Friday which was disappointing as I was going to try the burger, but what it was made up for by the fact that they said that they hadn’t made any because they’d been so busy. So that’s pretty decent if they’re making their own burgers in house. I had the DiFranco benny which was brie, bacon, spinach egg, bun etc etc. It was really good, the brie was a really nice flavour compliment with the rest of the benny. I suggest if you’re looking for a kitschy breaky place and you don’t want the wait of Floyds or Spoons check this place out.

It’s dingy and subterranean and claims to serve«the Best Bennys in BC.» Actually, I had no idea that it served anything other than coffee(when you have references to coffee twice in your name, you don’t immediately think a place will have nourishing food). So I ordered a Benny(the Morissey — how could I resist?). I liked the rich pesto hollandaise but found it to be a bit salty as well. The scramble consisted of quite a bit of food, so we took it home for leftovers, but we never actually finished it. Not bad and decent in a pinch.

We woke early, to the crescendo of waterplanes, taxiing across the harbor into a cloudy sky. The wind bent the trees and ruffled the surface of the pool, outside our suite. Seagulls tilted and tossed on unseen gusts. We dawdled over my own highly-refined, precisely-crafted coffee, deep in conversation. And abruptly(and simultaneously) found ourselves famished. This place was recommended by the helpful staff at the WorldMark front desk; there was a discount(yes, it was only a measly 10%, but every dollar counts, these days). The streets were silent at this hour on a Monday. We escaped the drizzle into a diner entirely decorated by the graffiti of its past patrons. A tacky gimmick, in my book; eccentricity bought cheaply. At least some thoughtful person had posted an amusing poem about a hippo in direct line of site from my side of the booth; the brain tires of being drawn, over and over, to «Joe loves Mary» and the like. Conversation got hijacked by graffiti(if it’s there, and can be read, somehow the brain insists that it be read)… Lots of fabulous-sounding Benedicts, with cutesy names. I love eggs Benedicts. I ordered one of ‘em. So did D. And somehow, I have entirely forgotten what was on it, apart from a seriously dilapidated tomato and a Hollandaise so heavy it gave me heartburn for the rest of the day, despite the Prilosec and Pepcid and Tums I took, despite the half-gallon of water I drank. Urk. Brutally fatty, and the flavor was unremarkable. Accompanied by freeze-dried potatoes. D got a side of sausages, which sat there, shining wetly and queasily on a plastic plate. She only ate one. My esophagus BURNS just thinking about it. Service was pretty lackluster, too. Despite the nearly-empty café. We weren’t impressed and went elsewhere the next morning.
