The first day I ate out in Kitchener, I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich at Taste of Philly Cheesesteak. As a matter of curiosity, I asked him where to go for good poutine in Kitchener. He simply explained that he was from Montréal and had stopped eating poutine since he moved because, well, there is no good poutine in Kitchener. Someone prove him wrong! I tried NYF classic poutine in Fairview Mall. Tasty fries, authentic curds, but the gravy was too salty and not hot enough. But a good enough experience for a quick bite in a mall. They also have a line up of poutine varieties with heavier toppings, but I didn’t try these.

Located in the Conestoga Mall, New York Fries serves up several styles of poutine and other fry-related dishes. As an American, I’m baffled at how the restaurant is «New York Fries,» although poutine is traditionally Canadian. New York? Now that’s pizza. I ordered the Buttered Chicken poutine. The menu listed it as chunks of spiced chicken with cheese curds. What I was served was a pile of spiced goo on top of fries. It seemed as if all the ingredients simmered together in the crockpot creating a paste. The poutine ate, although it would have been better had it contained recognizable meat and curds.
