We were staying in Ensenada on a boat for a few nights and we were having dinner with a couple of local residents. We asked that they select a place that is not a tourist restaurant. This was the perfect spot! There is a wine store attached to the courtyard shared with the restaurant. We grabbed a couple of wonderful local wines and then proceeded to check out the appetizers and main courses. The owner, Javier, was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Each of us had something different and we were all smiling at the end of our meal. It was also fun that they have a Mexican version of a Bocce court right in the courtyard. One of the waiters helped us to understand how to play this variation of the game. A fun night!

This gem is located just outside the main tourist area in downtown Ensenada behind the La Contra wine shop. The outdoor setting with lights strung among the trees is quite charming. The menu offers fresh local seafood, lamb, duck and beef. The tiradito(thinly sliced fresh fish similar to sashimi with soy, olive oil and a bit of spice), grilled pulpo(octopus) and the risotto with duck are a few of my favorites. Actually, the RISOTTOISOUTOFTHISWORLD! The owner, Javi, is very friendly and will be happy to offer menu suggestions if you ask. They offer local wines by the glass, have a variety of beers by the bottle and some liquor options. I highly recommend the«Pierre special» — a refreshing version of a gin and tonic created by the bartender, Pierre, which includes cucumber, oranges, lemons and lime. You can also select your own bottle of local wine from the adjoining shop and enjoy it with your meal at Boules. Because of the outdoor setting, it can sometimes get chilly, so be prepared — but the ambiance and food are worth it! I am a frequent diner at Boules!

An outdoor restaurant in a nice setting with absolutely delicious food at reasonable prices. Javier, the owner is a great host and makes everybody feel welcome. Dining there makes one feel you are in Europe! We will be back many times. It is located downtown with parking in front of the restaurant. In the winter months it can get chilly, so dress warm.

Just amazing! By far the best meal I’ve had anywhere and the atmosphere makes you feel at home and cozy. The owner, Javi, is very friendly and if you’re feeling adventurous, opt for the chef’s choice menu(a selection of small plates chosen by the chef and the owner). You won’t regret it!

Previously we had eaten at the old location and the food was absolutely delicious. This week, however, we had a less than ordinary meal. So, so disappointing. Our lamb chops were tough and tasteless, the fish was dry and tasteless and the vegetable quesadillas tasted burned. The new location is fabulous and the wait staff are attentive and friendly so… owner, please, please check on your food. I want the old Boules back!!!

This was our first meal in Ensenada and by far my favorite meal of the entire trip. From my understanding we went to Boules new location in downtown Ensenada, prior it was located next to the ocean. We had driven down on a Wednesday and the 5 of us were starving. Becky put this as the first spot to hit up when we got in. So once we settled into the house we booked through airbnb, we drove down to Boules for dinner. We parked right out front and walked in. We didn’t need reservations for this place. Outdoor seating with bocce ball on the side. They’ve got an outdoor oven. Cute outdoor patio seating. The owner Javie, greeted us. He was so nice! Tristan told him to serve us whatever he recommended and everything was amazing! My favorite dishes here were the Blue Fin Tuna sashimi served with bread. The bread was perfect, not too soft and not too hard. Put a little tuna on top and it melts in your mouth. Also best salad I had was from here, I think it was the dressing that made it amazing. The salad came with the fish dish. They were so nice, we had a dog with us, and they gave us a good hunk of chicken to feed to him! While we were leaving we mentioned to Javie we were going fishing the following day, and he offered to grill up our fish the next day if we caught any!!! If I ever go back down here, this would be my first stop for food! It was delicious!

Boules was phenomenal. I’m vegetarian and my fiancé is not, and both of us can’t wait to return to this restaurant in June. There were so many vegetarian options — 3 different risottos and 3 or 4 pasta dishes. I had the huitlacoche risotto and couldn’t stop eating. And, as an added touch, Boules had local Ensenada beers.

Spectacular food and the best margaritas I’ve ever had in my life. It’s also very affordable and the owner, Javi, is super nice and speaks excellent English. We had tacos, fresh fish, and an appetizer of delicious melted cheese. My vegetarian fiancée was also able to find plenty to eat.

One of the best restaurants in Baja for sure. Everytime I come here it feels like coming over to dinner at a friends house. Javier is an amazing host and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Every dish is superb but the steak CANNOT be missed. The sashimi appetizer he makes is also out of this world. The new location is really charming with a lovely outdoor patio — and a Boules court of course.

Boules is one of the best restaurants I’ve visited worldwide, and definitely worth the drive down from San Diego. The owner, Javier Martinez Garza, is an incredible host and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether a first time visitor or local regular, you’re treated like family. The food is absolutely amazing, with an eclectic farm to table menu of great meats, seafood, and vegetarian options. Boules also offers an amazing selection of local Valle de Guadalupe wines, along with a full bar of anything and everything one could want. It is a must-visit restaurant. LOCATIONNOTE: Boules is currently located in San Miguel, Ensenada and opens in its new Zona Centro location at 6th/Moctezuma on May 9th.
