They overcharged a bachelorette party $ 700 and refused to fix the mistake. Luckily others were around to help with this and cover the charge. They threatened to call the cops on the group of girls. Overall just a very shady place. You expect certain things going to Ensenada, but this exceeds it. The fact that they got called out on it and wouldn’t fix it makes it much worse. Highly recommend avoiding this place. It can be a lot of fun, but knowing what I would have to worry about… not going to ever come back.

Always a blast, at Papas & Beer. There’s a great spot to sit, everywhere. They have sunny or shade areas, with high-top tables and yellow umbrellas. The music is loud and the food and drinks, tasty. The prices are reasonable and they offer free wifi. The entertainment of watching young foolios take shots while being sexual harrassed on stage, is always a hoot. Some local vendors walk by the exterior, to try and get you to purchase something, so you’ll be saying«no thank you» often, but it’s not over-the-top annoying. Ruben is a cool server. I seem to have him every time I cruise into Ensenada. He’s fast, polite, and chill. I ordered the nachos, which were huge, and included ground beef and chorizo. I chose a Sol and Dos Equis and both were very nice and cold. Papas & Beer is within walking distance, if you’re in good enough shape and is easy to navigate to. No need to pay for a shuttle, if walking that downtown area.

My husband and I went here a week ago with some friends and it was fun, GREAT people watching. The guys who work there are on a mission to get you Tequilla drunk by pouring it down your throat(we only watched). The environment is fun. The only downsides are the patio gets over crowded because it’s small and their drinks are pricier then other places(because they are such a hot spot). The bathrooms here however are very nice and clean. I think we’d go back for round 2 if we’re ever down there again.

Came here this past weekend with friends for a bachelor & bachelorette party and had a blast! We came both friday & saturday night. Got there pretty late both nights and still had some tables so thats a plus. Margaritas are super big and not sooo pricey.(1 for $ 6.50 and 2 for $ 10). Though when my bf ordered 2 margaritas 20 minutes after me they charged him $ 13. All good because they are super tasty but kind of weird. There are definitely bars around that sell just as good margaritas for way cheaper. I mean we’re in mexico right? We also ordered buckets of beer all night which was so worth it because there was a lot of us and it was cheaper in bulk. We also tried some shots at this mini bar right in the middle. The bar tender puts on a show for everyone with those fire shots. The second night he remembered me & gave me 2 free shots!(thank you again) :) During the day it was pretty chill. Night time was when it was packed and they have 3 different sections. We stuck to the far right one until we got sick of their music and went to the left side. We kind of went back and forth when we heard good music. Will definitely be stopping by Papas & beer on our next trip!

Not sure why some people are rating this place so poorly… My experience here was nothing short of fun and entertaining. Like most, I came here from a cruise ship on one of the stops. Having never really been to this city, I got some recommendations from others. The general consensus was to give this place a try, and I’m happy I did. I understand the concerns of authenticity, as this is really quite a touristy spot, however, I don’t think that takes away from the all around experience. The food here was cheap and excellent. Some employee(clearly authentic and Mexican) made guacamole from scratch right in front of us. It was to die for. The nachos and tacos were also delicious. The service was on point, but the ambiance was what really impressed me about this place. My friends and I were all individually chosen to get up on stage, and the worker guy poured tequila down our throats and proceeded to flip us upside down and shake us. This was really a party-starter. From there, we met some locals, and took shots of alcohol that were on fire from the back bar! That was a very interesting, yet amazing experience. The locals were nice and genuine. I will definitely come back next time I’m in the area! This is the perfect party spot.

Definitely the biggest attraction for bars/clubs in Ensenada. It’s glitzy, loud, and touristy. If that is your thing, the place is perfect for you. My wife and I prefer some of the more off the beaten path places but Papas and Beer is probably by far the easiest place to hit up if you’re a little weak on your Spanish. We had dinner there which was surprisingly pretty good and a few drinks. We would go back if we had a large group but both of us generally prefer a quieter place. Houssongs next door is also very famous but seemed a bit more tourist unfriendly.

It was fun. My boyfriend was hesitant about walking around Ensenada but, knew we had to take advantage of being there so, this was the only place he was really willing to go to. Especially since it was recommended by Carnival cruises. Left the ship and walked a few blocks into the town and easily found Papas and Beer. We were there fairly early and were one of the first couples there. We sat on the edge of the patio to enjoy the weather and local scenery. And by «scenery,» I mean, all the street vendors coming up to our table to sell us things. We didn’t really mind too much as it’s really all part of the Papas and Beer experience. Ordered the shrimp ceviche, shrimp tacos, couple margaritas, and few tequila shots. Hey, «when in Mexico,» right!!! Ceviche was really tasty. You could tell that the shrimp was fresh and loved all the lime/citrus in there. Perfect for the hot weather on the patio. Once we left, it got a little bit rowdy with a few tables doing«bong» shots. It was really fun and we really enjoyed being there.

Not entirely sure why this place is so darn popular other than the fact that it’s probably the loudest bar on the street. Being at Papas & Beer made me feel like I was at any other bar in SoCal, price included. Unless you’re trying to pick up someone that probably lives somewhere in SoCal, I’d check out some of the other bars. I gave the bar an extra star because instead of an Adiós MF, it’s called a «Good-bye MF» which I thought was hilarious(I’m easily entertained).

Pretty much the best thing you could do in Ensenada is to hang out at papas & beer bar. Michelada’s back to back and shots after. Dancing girls are amazing and the tequila guys hanging girls upside down is fun to watch. Though I’m a bit upset the guy could lift me properly so I was only horizontally lifted up off the floor: o). I was frustrated with my phone connection spent an hour on international hotline to get data to post my crazy pics and clips online. But then it was like feeling the ocean breeze on my face when I saw the free wifi in the back of the bar. Very nice and polite waiters too. Make sure you tip them well. A $ 1 will do ;). Can’t wait to go back again.

Be aware that you may be pulled from your chair against your will and have tequila pored down your throat, felt up by a strange and flipped upside down. After all of this, your expected to pay $ 10.00 for the experience even though you did not agree to participate in it. Very much a concern and a liability issue especially if you have a pre existing medical condition. And since your in Mexico, good luck suing anyone for any injury sustained in the sex crime that was just committed in a public place. Just be aware of what your getting yourself into!

The atmosphere is questionable but what isn’t in Ensenada? The creepy guys blowing the whistle and trying to feel up every woman in the joint is out of control but don’t worry ladies, if you don’t have daddy issues and would prefer to keep your boobs bumper sticker free, shoot him your best bitch face and he will leave you alone to people watch. ;) If I just came for drinks, I would give this place 2 stars but we just came off of a Princess cruise ship and were dying for food with flavor so we ordered a big lunch. The. Food. Was. Amazing. You HAVE to try the California burrito, it’s is ridiculous and will blow your mind. It has French fries in which I didn’t realize until after I ordered otherwise I probably wouldn’t have had it but I’m glad I did. Mmmmmmmmmm!!! The nachos were also very very good. I will encourage you to look up the money conversion before you go, don’t trust your server. Ours lied about how many pesos to dollars it was and gave himself a $ 20 tip on top of our $ 52 bill which we did not realize and gave him an additional $ 20 tip. So, Yeah. :-/but that burrito…

My friends and I got off the cruise ship for cheap drinks and good eats. Upon getting into town, almost every vendor was telling us to not go to Papas & Beer. Reasons included: They will cheat you, they will steal your money or we have cheaper drinks. We made our way to Papas & Beer and immediately seated by a waiter. Sadly it just went all downhill from there. It took the waiter like 15 minutes to just take our drink over, even though it was not very busy at the time. It took another 25 minutes just to receive the food menu after requesting it. By the time we got the menu, we weren’t feeling hungry anymore. It got even more annoying when the security staff couldn’t find girls for their«stage games», they started approaching guys. I loved the layout of the restaurant/bar. It looked very modern and clean. The atmosphere unfortunately was not too comfortable and drinks were expensive compared to the other joints in downtown Ensenada. At least the WiFi is free and works like a charm!

If you want the sketchiest experience possible in Ensenada, this place is for you. Went with a bachelor party and 3 girls we met on the cruise ship. Similar to other reviewers’ stories, 3 of the«staff/security» started blowing a whistle, came and physically pulled the girls,(one who clearly didn’t want to go), up on this little stage where they were flipped upside down so their dresses fell around their necks revealing everything but what was covered by the underwear they were wearing, and were pretty forcefully manhandled. Then the 3 staff members, physically restraining them while standing behind them doing all this, proceeded to pour cheap Jose Cuervo on their chests and invited guys up to lick it off. Then, the staff guys who essentially molested these girls, tried to charge us some insane amount for the«shots» of tequila they poured on the girls they dragged up to molest that none of us, or anyone for that matter, ever ordered. If this weren’t shocking and disturbing enough, things got even worse. As soon as the girls were let go, we discovered that as the above actions occurred, one of the girl’s purse she had on her person at the time she was pulled on stage and flipped around, was stolen with her money and her AND her friend’s passports in it. A fact confirmed when the ladies demanded to see security footage where a person could be seen absconding with the girl’s purse during the«show» as they were tossed around. We were 8 guys, 3 girls(one of whom, the one whose purse was stolen while on stage, was originally from Mexico, savvy about being careful there, and spoke fluent Spanish), none of us were drunk, and this all took place within minutes from the time we arrived. The purse snatching somehow went completely unnoticed by the«staff/security» who were creating the perfect distraction,(described above), for it to happen, WHILE the distraction happened. Coincidence? We all suspected, and still suspect, not.

This place actually has several locations in Ensenada, all found within a few block from each other. There is the plaza, which overlooks the street in the tourist area. There is a store, selling merchandise. As I’m not too big on buying souvenirs, I haven’t taken the time to check out this store. I may browse through it in future reviews. The actual night club is located farther north on the tourist area, and it is found in the upstairs portion of the building. Entrance is only $ 5, which is a bargain compared to many places in LA and SD. The patrons were mostly well-dressed locals in their 20s. There are two security officers on staff at the door, and they were very courteous. The bar itself was popping that night, and I saw quite a bit of eye candy there. I parked along Miramar Ave, in the zone of tolerance. There are other parking spots nearby, and some spots along the street. It’s not a big city, so parking should not be an issue. I enjoyed my time here, and I may stop by for a drink the next time I find myself in Ensenada.

Been here tons of times. Place is always fun with lots of entertainment. Yeah the beer is very expensive compared to other places across the street but you are paying to have a good time. That is what people go there for and that is what you will get.

Papas and Beer is a good place to come with your friends if you’re looking for a rowdy time. It is NOT a good place to bring your kids! or your family for that matter… the entertainment can get pretty awkward at times Ordered one of their frozen drinks and didn’t taste any alcohol at all. Our tour guide recommended that we have closed tabs because it’s risky to leave an open tab in this area. We asked the waiter for our bill after the first drink and he seemed to be annoyed. This place gets two stars only because I enjoyed the fresh made gucamole made in front of you

I wish Unilocal would have the below one star ratings, because this place is more like a minus 5(–5) stars. MAJORTOURISTTRAP, especially people that go on cruises to Mexico have to go to this place. It is a waste of money, so I am WARNING!!! You. The food is well below average for bar food, they DONOT serve authentic Mexican food here, and we tried the nachos so a way to describe this dish is runny fake cheese from a jar or some kind of dispenser and mystery meat on top of cold chips. We also tried the margaritas, although very large in size, those were terrible as well, some kind of mix with no alcohol in it, pretty pathetic… They play very loud music to lure tourists to go in for a big disappointment. The only attraction is people that are very intoxicated and lower their standards to expose parts of their bodies that should not be exposed… anyway… and to make it even worst they have great wireless so anyone can take pictures and post them on media.

Papas and Beer is definitely a spot for bros and hoes. «Let’s get shit-faced appears to be their motto.» At least that was the vibe I’ve gotten from this spot. My big group was lured here during lunch. «Everything is better here, we’ll treat you well. We’ll even give you a margarita on us.» We gave in since it seemed OK enough to try. We sat in the patio area which is the worst place to sit because it’s a way for this bar to make it seem like they’re the place to be. So with a bunch of people sitting the patio area, it gives the illusion that everyone would rather be here. But you look inside the actual restaurant and it’s completely empty. What annoyed me the most was the constant tug I felt from a child selling chiclets or souvenirs. I just had chip and salsa since I wasn’t really hungry. My group ordered chicken wings. Their chicken wings were so small, that my pinky was bigger than the chicken wing. It was truly sad. Their margarita was watered down to the point it seemed as if there was no alcohol in it. I’m usually good at detecting alcohol in a drink since I’m a light weight. Their drink didn’t even make me blush. They do have cheap beer, so I’m sure that’s what gets people coming back. As for me, no thank you. Not worth it.

I am a fan of Papas and Beer. It’s the cleanest(and most Americanized) place in Ensenada. We did a fair amount of walking around, stopped in to many more«authentic» places, but honestly, sometimes you just get worn out by all the Ensenada shenanigans. Chiclets, Viagra, Retin-A, leather wallets, silver jewelry… it’s kind of nice to sit down somewhere that seems like you’re less likely to get dysentary. Yes, there’s drunk girls there that get all shit-faced and make out on the bar and do body shots and stuff like that. We saw 2, and it was hilarious when they then received their bill for all the shots… they apparently thought the shots would be free since they were being all slutty about it. Spring break is way worse than the time of year we were here(early October). It’s in a new building, it used to be a lot dirtier and darker, more like Hussong’s still is. But the new location is actually really nice. Across the street from where it used to be, you can’t miss it. We are going to be in Ensenada again at the end of January, and we will definitely go back into Papas and Beer.
