Sonora Prime

You can’t beat this place as far as having steak. The atmosphere is amazing also. You don’t have a fancy view of the water, but the whole front of the restaurant is open and inviting. This place checks all the boxes as far as what you want. Great food, service, and atmosphere. And for the amount of food you get I thought the prices were fair. Our group began with some appetizers, fried octopus, salmon cakes, and mussels. All were totally devoured. Then the main courses came. There was a mixture of people sharing steaks family-​style and getting individual steaks. I had the 10oz tenderloin (the smallest tenderloin they have). I would order it again if I went back. I think our table ordered just about every cut of steak this place orders. The most visually impressive steak was the bone in rib eye. The table next to us saw it, asked what it was, and they too ordered a couple for themselves. I was also very impressed with the level of service. The wait staff is right on top of you so you never have to go a second with an empty glass or have an unanswered question. Very different than the lackluster service I’m used to back in the US. If you’re in town, try this place! 5 stars!

Returned to Sonora grill, on 2016s trip to PV. Another outstanding meal. We had the filet and shared it. They had a 2 for 1 cocktail special which was nice. The Filet Mignon was second to none. Added a baked potato and mushrooms to compliment the meal. We wrapped it up with lava cake, also outstanding. The service was top notch, if your looking for great steak and great drinks, you can’t beat this place in PV

Sonora Prime was recommended to us by a local we had met upon arrival in Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at the CasaMagna Marriott and it is easily a walkable distance from the hotel. Service was impeccable. My husband and brother-​in-​law were a little «tired» from a long day at the pool and the waiter new exactly how to perk them up! A pair of espresso cocktails were immediately brought to table and we were ready to enjoy one of the best dining experiences we have ever had (coming from Chicago, a town of GREAT restaurants, it is tough to compete.) Our waiter recommended a fantastic Mexican red wine that paired perfectly with the recommended Tomahawk steak. We asked the waiter to simply bring out their best sides and we would sit back and enjoy. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough as the service was impeccable, the ambiance was upscale yet trendy and inviting. We will go back every year.

Seriously the best steak I have ever had! and I have had my fare share of Steaks, even the mashed potatoes are awesome, super buttery. Too bad I live 1500 miles away or I would probably be eating there every weekend, I highly, highly, recommend, you will not be disappointed!

Very expensive (for Mexico) but the setting is first class. Open and airy, the place exudes class and persona. Food is good and reliable… more of a place to see and be seen.

We had seen Sonora Prime as we taxi’d to and from the Casa Magna Marriott hotel in Marina Vallarta; it looked very inviting and upscale, so we decided to check it out. It was packed for a Sunday evening around 8PM, but they were able to seat us within ten minutes. It’s has a modernized look to it, with large flatscreen TV’s throughout the restaurant playing pop /​hip hop music videos. Our waiter came over and took our drink orders, then brought over a display of the numerous steaks they were serving that evening. I went with the rib-​eye and potatoes, while my girlfriend went with the tenderloin and cream corn. The chips and salsas that were served were incredible, that also came with a bean dip infused with cheese. I had to stop myself from devouring these, since I had a 14 oz slab of meat headed my way. Our steaks came out on black sizzling platters, that continues to keep your steak warm throughout your meal. My rib-​eye was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and complemented well by the garlic mashed potatoes. After inhaling the steak, they brought over the beautiful dessert platter but we were too full to indulge. They gave us free ice cream cones to go, with cookies and cream ice cream. Fantastic service, and amazing meal; couldn’t ask for a better way to end our trip in Vallarta!

My parents and I had a wonderful dinner here. Loved the décor. Our server was awesome… attentive, knowledgeable and funny. Blue cheese stuffed olive martini, margaritas. Steak selection was impressive. Look forward to going back.

Sonora deserves 5 stars because of their great service and delicious food. As a complimentary starter, they serve chips with beans and a variety of salsas. Not only do they have great steak, but also a lot of other dishes like fish and tacos. The desserts are really good too! I can’t wait to go back and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Sonora Prime is by far the best steak house in Puerto Vallarta. The service is top notch. Great late night dining and atmosphere. They have big screen TVs playing fantastic music videos and most big sporting events. This is a must visit!

If you want to experience first class dining in Mexico then you need to head to Sonora Prime ASAP!!! This place is absolutely amazing!!! Anyone who tells you otherwise is not a true foodie! If you want a good piece of carne asade in Puerto Vallarta than look no further.
The décor and ambience of Sonora is beautiful. The design is very Miami/​Cuban. You will feel like you are in South Beach. The crowd is very hip and beautiful. There was a DJ spinning the latest in club and dance music while we dined.
The food is top notch. I have ate a lot of steak growing up in the Midwest and I have to tell you this one of the best meals of my life! You will be presented with a meat selection explaining what type of steak is available. We went with the Tomahawk Ribeye. This hunk of prime sirloin was served bone in on a sizzling grill plate garnished with onions and jalapeños. The meat was succulent and juicy. I enjoyed every delicious morsel. The steak came with 2 sides. We chose the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, which didn’t disappoint. The cocktails are top shelf and just as fabulous. My boyfriend is not a fan of tequila but was overwhelmed and thoroughly enjoyed 2 mango margaritas.
The service is true to Puerto Vallarta standards. Cesar was our waiter and he was outstanding. He made sure my birthday dinner was everything!!! We never had to ask or request anything. He was there to immediately fill our every request before we could say anything. He was the epitome of excellent service.
I could rave all day about Sonora Prime. If you are in the states a meal of this caliber will cost you pretty penny. This was a decadent meal for Mexico but definitely a discount if you are comparing pesos to US dollars. I would definitely come back here to eat. This place is an experience within itself. If you want to treat yourself or your significant other with a meal like no other head to Sonora Prime.

As close to an upscale restaurant you can get. Hip and cool. Open air and amazing food. Steak was amazing and love all the dipping sauces,

Over-​rated and way over priced (for Mexico) in my opinion. Simply a decent steak place (order the Arrachera). Its just a place to be seen for locals. I tried talking to the head bartender/​manager about wine and he was just pushing the most expensive instead of explaining why a certain wine went well with certain dishes. Coming from San Francisco, I’m not as gullible about wine as the guy thought.
If you want a great steak and BBQ for a fair price and off the beaten trail, check out El Guamuchilito for lunch (its just a bar after 6pm, I think).
Basically, there’s 10 places within 1 – 10 minute stroll around the marina that has a much better value and some with great views of the marina.
Sonora Prime is for those who have to have their steak fix and don’t want to leave the Marina.

Great restaurant and quality staff. Service was quick and attentive. This is THE place to be in the Marina district.

I didn’t give this place 5 stars because my octopus was breaded and fried. I was expecting it to be grilled. It was good, but not what I was expecting.

This is by far the best and classiest steak house in PV. A little expensive by PV standards but cheap by US standards for what you get. Outstanding service and food. You have gotta try it if you love great food.

A bit pricey for Mexico, but the location is amazing in the marina. Some water views would be better, but still a nice spot.
