40 Cañones

We had a little trouble finding the place as it is part of a hotel. It was great to eat somewhere that people were not chasing us in to eat. We were attracted by the clean, airy locale across from the beach. The wait staff was very attentive and willing to explain the menu.
We ordered a whole snapper cooked to order and it was very tasty. Loved the guacamole and the special bowl it came in with the hotel name on it. I bought s bowl set to take home!

Really nice atmosphere. Service good. Salad was OK. ~140 pesos. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, relaxing music and dim lights. A great range of beers. Great place to go for dinner!

As a crew member who visited Costa Maya weekly, I came to 40 Canones every Thursday! Johnny, the bartender as well as the other servers all became great friends! As soon as my friends and I would walk in, they’d greet us by name and promptly get us our drinks of choice.
The restaurant is on an open deck overlooking the beach and even on rainy days is a great place to sit and enjoy food. There are plenty of lounge chairs available for use on the beach as well. They’ll serve food and drink on the beach which is a nice plus.
Food is good. Johnny will make your drinks strong :)
As a tip, there are massages available on the beach right near the restaurant for only $ 20. They’re not associated with the restaurant but it’s a nice plus.

The restaurant, 40 Cañones, is on the ‘backside’ of the hotel with the same name, right on the malecon of Majahual. The open seating area welcomes the breeze which is a nice respite from the Carribbean heat and humidity. The wait-​staff is very cordial, and the atmosphere is casually upscale, which really helps to set it apart from the rest of the beachside dining establishments. Offering a small range of pastas and Mexican-​style seafood dishes, 40 Cañones may well be the best restaurant in the region. While no dish will blow you away, everything not only tastes good but is also presented fashionably as well. If you find yourself looking for an evening that is more formal than your day of lounging in the sand with cocktails, 40 Cañones would be a great place to start.
