Between myself, youtube, a can of CRC and the helpful guy at Armstrong, I managed to fix a lock today. It took two trips to the store — first, I had to get instructions on how to remove the handle, then I took it in to get help removing the key. I left with expert advice on how to put it all back together again… job well done! Have booked for a free quote on a new alarm system, one the cat won’t activate.

A prime feature of my home is the beautiful French doors that open up to a private gardened area. On Thursday, rushing to go to work, I used a bit more force than normal to lock the courtyard doors, promptly snapping the key in its slot and leaving me holding the top end. Fortunately it did lock, so I could attend to my dilemma at a later time. Just a kilometer from my office is Armstrong, a small locksmith with a big name. Sensing my panic, the boys were quick to offer solutions, and managed to cut me a replica key in no time. The staff are full of banter and offered me a treasure trove of advice. I shopped around as I waited for the key, and found their little shop filled with useful security items. This is a good little community store, offering a vital service, and helping people secure their property in more ways than one.
