I have to admit that I was disappointed with my most recent visit to Benediction — I used to be a regular here a good while back(like a decade!) when I worked across the street and it was AWESOME. Back then they used to give little pieces of white chocolate blondie with every coffee and there was an Indonesian Sticky Rice bowl with lime, coconut cream and tropical fruit on the menu that was my all time fave. Then again, maybe I’m just old! No issues with the service, but all the tables upstairs were dirty — we cleaned our own. I find the space a bit cold and clinical and it seems to have lost a little of its soul in the past ten years. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back here, although there aren’t many options in the neighbourhood.

Benediction is lovely café which is tucked away on St Benedict’s Rd. Only the counter is facing the street and you then go upstairs to get to the indoor and outdoor seating area. I love the décor — which is concrete minimalist. They offer a menu at the counter which you order from(no table service apart from delivering food and drinks) and a good range of counter food. The coffee is excellent. Never had a burnt one. I’ve had the eggs Benedict from here which was very good and the omelette. The omelette was less satisfactory but that’s probably because I made some horrible choices. You basically choose 3 sides from their normal list of sides. I thought this meant you got an egg/cheese omelette with the 3 sides but you get the sides in the actual omelette. So my choice of pork sausage, mushroom and salmon wasn’t too good. Anyway — I like coming here as its quiet, a nice atmosphere and its a good place to eat by yourself and get some work done or just read a book.

First time using Unilocal and decided to try this place based on reviews. Not disappointed at all. Good stuff. Would happily call again for breakfast.

Love this place, crazy about the poached chicken salad. As I’m not a coffee drinker in winter it’s always a hot juice — colds beware!

Although it’s hard to find and not in the most convenient location, this café is simply the best breakfast I’ve had in Auckland since I moved here. I highly reccomend their flannel hash– with sausage, egg and potato how can you go wrong? Cofffee is also good!

Inspiration for breakfast! If you’re wanting a swanky business breakfast — head to Benediction on St. Benedicts Road, off upper Symonds Street — a contemporary, classy café. Sit outside at the back of this trendy establishment and soak up the cultural atmosphere. Observe the quirky wire sculptures whilst eating toasted muesli and fruit for $ 10.50. I was waiting for an appointment, sipping on my latte and writing in my journal, in awe of the unusual art pieces. The coffee was $ 4.50 but could have been a better quality. This is a hidden gem. Tables are surrounded by Buxus bushes and bamboo plants. It oozes serenity. It is perfect to have breakfast networking meetings or apt for an informal first interview one on one. Just outside is a modern office Block full of creative agengies.

I am warming up to this café. Usually I like my cafes cozy and buzzing with a chatty atmosphere, and this café doesn’t really offer that. That being said it is growing on me. The modern interiors and sleek layout really work well and is a refreshing change. I think the café has attracted it’s customer base from its outlook and offerings, because those that venture out here are upmarket business people. That’s why this place is great for meeting a colleague or setting up something for work, because the space isn’t so chaotic. It is calm and serene instead, with an abundance of longer and shorter tables for your picking. The coffee is great and the food selection is lovely too. I would suggest coming here for brunch in between the busy hours.

Benediction never disappoints. You order downstairs and don’t be fooled that it is standing space only — head up the stairs and you’ll find yourself in a lovely big open dining space, you can even sit outside when the weather permits. It’s a great place to meet friends on the weekend, as it’s not too difficult to get a table, and the food and coffee are consistently good. It’s even not too much of a struggle to find a park along St Benedicts Street. I can often imagine myself living in a large loft apartment across the road and coming to Benediction for my daily coffee. Dreams are free, right?!

Benediction is a lovely café located on St Benedicts Street in Newton. I always pop in here for a snack or a coffee whenever I get my hair done as my salon is just up the road. They have quite a creative menu with a lot to choose from. Their eggs benedict is delicious from their menu food. I also am a fan of their chicken, avocado and blue cheese Sammy! YUM! Whenever I have walked in I am quickly greeted with a big smile by the wait staff. This is a fabulous trait as I feel a lot of places are missing this ‘traditional expectation’. The coffee is great! The smoothies are delicious! — try the avocado smoothie, sounds weird but tastes amazing — and this is a perfect café to come to when you have a large group. I really enjoy coming to benediction!
