I only went here the first time because I was visiting friends in Te Atatu and this is a walk-in Barber shop. Actually, I was a bit worried after reading the other review here. But after visiting, I’m wondering what planet that reviewer was on. He admitted the haircut was good, which is the reason most people go to a barber, right? If you want a conversation, take a taxi ride. Don’t complain if the guy is concentrating on doing a good job and doesn’t talk much. In fact, I was REALLY impressed! Normally I pay $ 25 at Just Cuts, but Ben did a better job and yes, it was actually shaped and styled. Three weeks later, it still looks really good and is easy to brush into shape. Even better, because I’m a «senior» he charged only $ 12. That’s right, $ 12 for a haircut! No wonder the bench is full and you had to wait half an hour. I’ve been back since and it was just as good the second time. Mike PS The road is being widened at the roundabout and access isn’t easy to Ben’s barber shop. Although there is parking inside the fence, I found it easier to park at Countdown and cross the road at the lights.

I came here a while ago for a haircut and found the whole experience a bit unsettling. The haircut I got was quite good, can’t complain about that but the guy cutting the hair was a bit on the eccentric side. He seemed really tense and didn’t speak to me at all during the haircut. He did tick me off once or twice for moving my head and it felt like I was back in school or something. He took well over a half an hour with my hair — generally in these mens barbers you are in and out in about twenty minutes. You could say that at least he took the time to style my hair — however the guy was just so tense that I just wanted to get out of there. He could do with an assistant helping him as I had to wait over a half an hour in the queue. Some guys came but left after a few minutes realising that he was on his own and had about three heads to cut before he got to them. It’s all a bit weird and though the guy is a good barber, I haven’t been back.
