Great little sushi place that I used to frequent in my last year of uni. It wasn’t much of a walk from the business school and the sushi is good so it was worth the walk. Located just off Symonds Street Bien is a decent sized restaurant that offers both a menu and sushi to go(pick and mix style) all to eat in or take out. The sushi ingredients are always fresh and the rice was never overly sticky and starchy so you didn’t feel full after lunch, just satisfied. Must go back next time I am around actually, it has been a while.

For the best sushi within Auckland University walking distance, Bien is where you want to go. Actually, it’s a pretty good bet for sushi where ever you go in the city. The rice is always really well cooked and seasoned… and more importantly the grains are nice and fat. The fillings are also always super fresh too. It does cost a little bit more than the other sushi places round, but it’s definitely worth it, you can taste the difference immediately. But overall the prices are pretty reasonable. The donburi menu is also a good option for lunch(I generally go for the sashimi or salmon one just because I love raw fish). Also, keep in mind that these Bien places get absolutely packed at much time; I can guarantee you’ll be waiting in line… but it’s so worth it…

I love the food at Bien, maybe because I love all Japanese food, but Bien on Mount Street do Japanese so well. I’d often stop by here on my way home from University for a beef bowl or donburi. The food is great, but the portions are rather small and quite often I’d still be hungry for more. Also I think that the price is quite expensive for the amount of food that you get. But anyway enough negativity, it’s yum. The staff here are always so nice and cheerful, it makes me happy to see them so happy. Or maybe it’s the realisation that I’m getting food that makes me so happy. Either way Bien makes me happy.
