Travelling back from Kumeu River winery, Blossoms was a pleasant coffee and cake stop before heading back to Auckland. There is an all day breakfast, if you don’t have a sweet tooth. Blossoms specialises in home-made food, local wines(Kumeu river pinot gris is a goodie) and handmade chutneys and jams. Drinks were served promptly and the coffee art was a nice surprise. My cappuccino was frothy and strong– a great pick me up. The cakes on display activated my tastebuds and soon I was drooling — especially the raspberry meringue cake and macademia toffee cake. Very decadent for 9:30 in the morning, but there was no way it wasn’t getting in my belly. The café is in the same complex as Boric wholefoods and they share very free range hens and even baby chicks that wonder around. Also, there is a big playground for the littlies. Overall, great cakes and good service.

This place was recommended to us to check out on our way back from Muriwai beach, heading towards Auckland. It obviously has a following as soon after we had sat down there were no tables free whatsoever, very busy sat lunch — this was last weekend just been, so early Autumn. I paid close to $ 50 for the two of us to enjoy a breakfast lunch — both having eggs bene with salmon, one hot drink and one cold — no trimmings, no sides and lots of salmon(cold) and not much else — the garnish itself wasn’t even edible:(I have included a pic but double what you see as I only remembered to take the photo half way through eating!;) Ok place, beautiful views and outdoorsy atmosphere but the food just didn’t win me over especially with the price tag attached. Would be willingly to give it a second go however.

I popped in here after visiting Boric Foodmarket. It was in the afternoon, and they must have been busy as there wasn’t much food left in the cabinets(few sandwiches). There was a lunch menu going until 3pm though so you wouldn’t have gone hungry! I noticed there were also homemade jams and preserves for sale. All I ended up purchasing was a bag of fudge that was made there. And just so you know, it is really good fudge. There is about six pieces in the bag for $ 4.50 and it tastes like heaven. It is quite morish, though I managed to not eat the whole bag on the journey back to Auckland! Seating was available inside and outside on a veranda, overlooking the orchards. A great wee pitstop.

A pleasant place to go for brunch if you are out West on the weekend. They have a good selection on the menu and also some superb cakes and pastries in the cabinet. They also do some good vegetarian options such as the bagel with cream cheese and the eggs benedict comes on Turkish flatbread instead of English muffins. It’s a relaxed environment, you can tell you are away from the city and you can see the hens roaming around freely outside. I guess this means that you can be assured that the eggs they use in the breakfasts are free range! I thought some of lunch options were a bit pricey for what they were — snapper and fries was $ 22 which I thought was a bit over the top for a café in West Auckland. Having said that, I would still recommend here and the coffee is excellent. You can always pop into the Boric food market next door and buy some nice food for tea.
