This café is a solid performer. The food range on the menu is quite wide, well priced and includes a large range of cabinet food. My most recent visit I had the Thai omelette which was the special of the day. It was great — chicken and mushroom cooked in a Thai style sauce and folded into an omelette. A risky move but it paid off as it was delicious. A friend has the frittata which was really nice as well. Coffee had always been good. Service is good too — order at the counter and get a number type thing. Not much you can say about that. Café Trends wouldn’t be top of your mind as it’s not on the big Ellerslie strip and right by Gasket which is a bit better. But come here for a well priced lunch and good coffee and food.

Spent my Tuesday arvo studying here. Allpress Iced Americano. Not bad. I was super stunned by the price $ 3.20, which is a bit cheaper than most coffee places i know of. Service was good. Décor: There’s things I like about the interior. It’s quite modern looking. I love the chandeliers and walls. Their couches are super soft and would be awesomely comfortable to sit here for a while and have a chat with a friend. Most of the inside is black themed which makes the place appear quite dark. Their wooden chairs seem to be wearing which was a little aesthetically displeasing, and there does seem to be a few flies lurking around inside that they should probably deal with.

One of my favourite places in Auckland for a good coffee… always on point. They have a barista that has been there for years, and he doesn’t take many days off = great, consistent cups :) The owners are lovely & if you have a problem they are happy to listen to constructive criticism and make it right. Same with your coffee. Their food is fantastic as well! Give them a try, you wont be disappointed!

We were in Ellerslie today and decided to give this place a go for brunch. My first impression was that the staff looked a bit grumpy but the woman who served me was very nice. We got a big breakfast for me and my other half got a bagel with cream cheese. Both arrived very promptly along with two excellent flat whites. The coffee was smooth and had a lovely rich taste. My big breakfast was fine and the only criticism was the mushrooms were served in a creamy sauce. They do this in a lot of places in NZ and I would prefer if they just served fried mushrooms. I think mushroom fried in salt and pepper is perfectly adequate but that might just be my European palette. Anyway, a very good spot for brunch and the coffee was just right.

Café Trends does a mean brunch. The salmon potato cakes are worth getting up early for on a Sunday. If you are famished, the breakfast burrito will seriously keep you going all day, it is massive. If you’ve missed breakfast, the lunch menu is also good. The chicken linguine is my personal favourite. During the week the cabinet is well stocked for lunch time salads and sammies. Café Trends is a nice little café. There is nothing special about the location, and if you are seated outdoors the only view is Ellerslie highway. But the staff are super friendly, the coffee is good and it’s a good place to have a casual meal.
