The chance to walk around the store and look through the movies, read the backs and simply hold them in your hands is an awesome feeling. The crew is super helpful and they certainly know their movies.

It amuses me how all these DVD rental places still have video in the title(United Video, Video Ezy, Civic Video) despite the fact no one uses videos anymore. It really should be Civic DVD now. Anyway, up until a year ago I had never had a membership to any DVD rental place and I needed to rent a DVD. These guys were great, membership was really easy and you get cheap new releases when you sign up too. You may wonder how long places like this will last, I did and then I thought about it. The DVD vending machines cannot hold the number of titles that Civic Video has. Machines do not have staff to help you out, to recommend titles for you based on your previous rental history or to text you when they have in store offers. Also we have data caps in New Zealand and downloading high quality movies from iTunes may take up more data than you can spare. Sometimes you cannot rent titles from iTunes, do you really want to pay $ 25 to watch something once? That is more than the movies and without the big screen. So just in case because you never know when you may want to just hang at home and watch a DVD get a membership with these guys. They also have loads of junk food here too for your movie watching pleasure.

So sometimes you cant access the internet. Maybe your flatmate used all the money that was supposed to be for the internet bill on buying themselves carls jr. Maybe you used up your absurdedly small data allowance on downloading videos of circuses in the 1980s. Whatever the reason, sometimes you need to come to a video shop. If you live around here, Civic Video is one of the best and cheapest. You can get a good bargain, the staff are knowledgeable enough without being overbearing, and you can keep on renting even with a few fines on your account. If you need a video store, Civic could be the place for you

I don’t go to video stores very often, but when I do, I like to visit Civic Video. Mostly because it’s close to my house, but also because I like it in there. They’ve got a really good range and the staff are nice. The prices are pretty competitive — there are specials that go down to $ 1 for a week. Ridiculous. How do they make any money? Anyway, they also have good movie snacks in there — ice creams, pop corn, chocolate, lollies, good beverages. There’s also a text service — they contact you via text to tell you when there are specials on or when your DVD’s are overdue. Pretty handy.

This is my absolute favorite video store! They have such an amazing range of dvd’s, only once have they not had what I was after and they ordered it in for me! Their prices are fab, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays you can get their weekly dvd’s for $ 1 and on wednesdays their new release movies are $ 3.99. They regularly update the new release wall so lots of great movies go into weekly rental every week. They also have a list up near their counter showing what new movies made the switch to weekly and what genre they are so you can find them easily. They give you a text when a movie is overdue and if you do happen to incur a fine, they usually cut the fine in half if you pay then and there. Everyone in there is so friendly, always making conversation. They are also very knowledgable on the movies and give great recommendations.
