Once I went here on my way to a Quentin Tarantino themed party and I was dressed as the slutty schoolgirl assassin, Gogo. I collected my booze and got ID’ed, which is pretty normal for me since it seems that most people think that despite being 28, I could pass for under the age of 20. But then the guy at the counter, who I might add is always very nice, was surprised at my age on my driver’s licence because he thought I was an actual schoolgirl. I’m not sure why you would think that an underage school-goer would be buying drinks late on a Friday night in her(very inappropriate) uniform, but there you go. Anyway, this is our local liquor shop and the guy who works there is always friendly and nice and these days he usually doesn’t ID me(am I getting old?) so that saves a few precious seconds at the counter that can go towards more sweet partying.

Although it has recently become part of the Liquor Spot franchise, the bottle shop in the Balmoral shops is an entity in its own right. Colloquially known as the bank(as this is what the building originally was) it has served the area for years. The staff are the same as they were pre-franchise, and they continue their friendly, comforting service. There are only a few businesses where I’d consider myself a regular, and this is one of them. Not just because of my boozy habits, but because of the smile of recognition and warm greeting I get when I go in. Their prices are fairly standard for a suburban bottle shop, but they often have wine or beer specials that mean you can get something pretty drinkable without financial ruin. And if you go in at the right time of day they’ll have Home and Away on, so you can watch it while you wait in line.
