Enjoyed a trip down memory lane. Traditional atmosphere and a great menu featuring all the Dutch«delights» I grew up with and also remember from Holland. Such nice friendly service as well, delivered with a Dutch accent of course! Will definitely be back … especially with other family members who want to renew their acquaintance with Dutch food.

Sometimes in a man’s life there is expertly cooked bacon with the most delicious of accompaniment that you wouldn’t have expected. Enter the Speck from Dutch Delight. First of all let me talk about the place, Dutch Delight is a simple tiled floor with tables and the most interesting varied stuff on the wall, from maps, to postcards and figures promoting strange things. There is a children’s room filled with toys for the kids too. But really, let’s look and what drew you towards this review, yes I know your secret craving, Bacon. No need to blush, it’s my fetish too. This was crispy well cooked bacon, set onto Dutch pancake with icing sugar, special syrup and banana. When longingly asking for more bacon, this dish only gets better. In summary, if you like bacon on your pancakes. Eat at Dutch Delight, if you don’t like Bacon, then you and I have nothing to say to each other.

Dutch Delight is the place to come if you like salty licorice(yuk), chocomel, or speculaas, or pancakes. Who doesn’t like a pancake? Only dull people, I reckon. The pancakes here are pretty good, and they rather thoughtfully also provide options for vegetarians and diabetics. The garlic bread is pretty super. The less exciting news about this place is that it could really do with a makeover; there’s a front room and then a strange backroom on the back of the shop that doesn’t really have any natural light. The last time I was there they had the front door open so it was too cold to sit in the front, so we ended up out the back next to a children’s party, which was not that relaxing. The party sounded like good fun though.

I woke up one day and had a craving for pancakes(no I’m not pregnant) so I decided to try out this place in my new hood which I had seen a couple of times. I took my toddler with me and off we went, as soon as I walked in they directed me to a table next to the kids play room, yay child friendly. I was surprised to find a number of savoury pancakes on the menu, chicken, pork, salmon, bacon, ham, mince, beef, yeap there are all sorts. And in the dessert selection there is tiramisu, cherry, custard, ice-cream — once again all sorts and very different flavours. I decided to go with an assortment of savoury starters and a custard pancake, the starter things were nice but some of them were similar to Asian fried spring rolls. The custard pancake was light and delicious and my toddler and I gobbled it down. I do wish they had even smaller sizes of the pancakes as even small is big, so that way I could have a smaller savoury and a smaller dessert one, or some kind of a combo would be good. I did also find the prices a little expensive and didn’t find the interior that appealing. I will be back to try out some more of their pancakes, next time I will take my husband so we can share.

If you’re looking for a fun international Dutch experience here it is. The moment I saw this restaurant I really wanted to get inside and try out there pancakes.(So the sign mentioned) Perfect opportunity arose a few months back while still pregnant and the need to eat was enormous. Fellow mums can probably associate the love of either savory or sweet, and in my case it was oh so sweet! I must rave of their pancake size portions they are really something, and decorated with such personal touch. I decided that day that I would go for the Kids Pancake which was served with seasonal fruit and a nice surprise. I won’t spoil the secret as it was cute and appropriate. Please do try this delight out there Original Dutch Poffertjes which is like a pancake puff, holy moly, really delicious, and can make one go back many times again. This feels like a family owned and happy café, with great service.

My better half has a bit of Dutch in her, so one of our first dates was spent in Dutch Delight. Four years later, we haven’t left! The bloke that runs this place is possibly the jolliest, most generous restaurant owner you’ll ever meet. His love for his work is clearly evident, and it’s infectious — you just can’t not be happy there. It’s all authentic Dutch fare on offer, so that pancakes of every kind — sweet and savoury. On my first visit, I was unsure of how fish would work on a pancake — I need not have worried, they’re delicious and very filling. The real treat here however are the desserts. Now keep in mind, too many Dutch desserts and you’ll look like a Biggest Loser contestant. On occasion though, they make a wonderful treat — the Dessert Poffertjes(little pancakes) come served with butter, icing sugar and ice cream. They’re a heart attack on a plate, but sometimes you just have to say ‘when in Rome’. Enjoy with a brandy mocha — perfect match!
