Food was good but the service was atrocious. No follow-up from the waitress on how the food was, no refill for my drink, no checking to see if we wanted dessert. Would I come here again

To sum up our experience in one word: blech. We chose this spot because of its proximity to our hotel. I wish I had confirmed with Unilocal before agreeing to the reservation! We were all starving after a long day of post travel and an impromptu hike so needless to say we were slightly hangry. You would think that being so hungry we’d be happy with any food that you put in front of us. But out of everyone, I think I’m the only person that actually liked their dish. The tom yum soup was not great — a little bit too much coconut milk or cream… The soup didn’t taste like the right consistency. The pad Thai had too much fish sauce and other dishes tasted way off. I got the chopped chicken and green bean dish and I thought it was great — ate the whole plate. Our service was awful also — waitresses did not come around frequently despite an empty restaurant, food was brought out at awkward times so we spent time watching each other try very hard not to eat while we waited for the rest of our dishes, and all around the service was just painfully slow. Wouldn’t recommend this place for any meal until they get it together.

Had the chicken cashew nuts — very tasty. Clean modern restaurant with comfy chairs. Drinks are also good too — try Thai ice tea or jungle juice. Our mains were served within 10 minutes.

Went with a large group(16) for a friends birthday. It took an hour to get drinks and another 2 hours to order food and have it brought out. On top of all of this the food was very average Thai food. I would very much recommend any other whole in the wall Thai eatery for the quality of food.

Craving vegetables always puts me in the mood for Thai food. What with Auckland’s Restaurant Month and me constantly passing by this place, I decided to give it a whirl. This place is HUGE. Immediately greeted by the hostess(pretty sure she was the owner), she seated me in the bar as all the other space was set for 4 or more. I ordered their Restaurant Month Special, which was the chicken satay with homemade peanut sauce, a SIZZLING beef and veggie dish, and a glass of wine, of which I selected the Babich Pinot Noir(delightful, btw). The chicken satay I could eat all night. I’d go a little easy on the peanut sauce, though, if that was your aim. The SIZZLING beef and veggie plate was just that: SIZZLING. I liken it to the fajitas I would order at Chili’s back in the states. Everything was done such that when it was settled on your table, it cooled enough to eat. I’d return here to get a more traditional thai dish, but for starters, not bad.

I just love Thai food. I feel like every day I’m doing a review on a Thai restaurant. Thai food is just amazing. My partner booked us in at Grasshopper on the evening of my birthday one year. Situated within the same building as the Stamford Plaza, it is a bit tucked away behind Queen Street, but it is good food, and the interior décor is simply amazing. I had my usual — Thai Vege Red Curry, not the best one I’ve tasted(that honour would go to Secret Thai Garden in Otahuhu) but still good — as is the standard Thai fare. The fanciness of the décor is really what sets this place apart, though. Service was good, no complaints although everything was the bare minimum — there was no wow factor there.
