Great place! Great food, great service. Be warned, it is super popular, so on a busy morning breakfast run, or lunch, you may need to wait for a table. I love how in Auckland there are such hidden café gems like this place in obscure, quiet suburban areas. Neat retro shop right next door too.

A great local café out west — Humbug Café is a family friendly café they serves up fresh tasty food at good prices — they have a fairly standard menu but things are well done and a little different, for example the mince on toast is lamb not beef. If you’re just getting coffee they have a really good selection of treats! The service is slightly haphazard but always very good and very quick. A good find!

My other half discovered this gem. Been here several times for breakfast and enjoyed each time. They have a family section of the café with a childrens area. There are books and toys which keep my littley entertained long enough to let me enjoy my meal fuss free :) The kids menu is pretty good as well and a good serving size. I’m actually not sure if the practice is to order at the counter or at our table as we’ve done both or stood in line at the counter and had wait staff approach us with a menu and say they’ll come around(& they do). Because the place is quite a hive of activity esp in the mornings you could get missed by busy wait staff if you just walk in and grab a table

Very good food and coffee. The location is not inspiring, but it’s often hard to get a table because it’s popular with locals. The separate space for patrons with young kids is handy.

Loved how they had a little spot for kids to play and entertain themselves. Love the atmosphere & the décor. They were even playing Erykah Badu too ! I had the Bagel & a apple pie it was yummmm

We stumbled on this only because of the raving Unilocal reviews! And boy were those reviews right! The food is great, the service is great, the layout is so hip, and the cherry on top was the sweet doggy outside the day we were there. An absolute«must» to stop and enjoy!

Found this place by searching Unilocal(an almost perfect rating? Can’t go wrong!). We were not disappointed. My iced coffee was perfect, and the French brioche toast was amazing! I recommend highly for anyone in the area. The atmosphere is friendly and retro, the staff are very helpful and bubbly. The whole place makes you feel warm and welcome, and fills you with happiness. I will be back.

We have never had anything but great service and great food at Humbug. A lot of the food is local, and or ethically raised, which is important to us. If you want a treat try the Banoffee smoothie… oh my goodness! Loads of seating in two rooms(one more kiddo friendly) and a few shared tables(which I love, but it seems some locals are still learning to deal with). Definitely the best café in the West.

Great place for the family Sunday brunch. No need to book just stroll in. Plenty of car parks right outside. If you’re not familiar with the area, you may need to use your GPS. Even though I’m a local I still find it odd to find this little gem in the middle of nowhere. The food is great, very generous portion. So be careful when you order the big breakfast = literally big. The staff are friendly and you get to see all the cooking going on with the open setting. One of the best local café in new Lynn.

Great coffee. Great food! The chips are awesome. Service is fantastic! And I love how there is a separate area for parents/kids and they have room for prams and they have loads of highchairs. I recommend this café to everyone because it’s so good. It has personality, style and atmosphere!

Came here the first week it opened and have never stopped! I love their mochaccinos, yum! Have anything on the menu, you can’t really go wrong here. Typical café pricing, so not cheap… but quality ingredients! Free-range, locally sourced and some organic. It’s also very baby/kid friendly. Took my son here when he was 4 weeks old and had to do a full«costume» change, their facilities held up! They have a toy area for older babies n children too!

We stopped in for brunch to celebrate a birthday and it was confirmed. Humbug is a totally cool café in this backwater Glen Eden street. I’d say Humbug is putting Rua Road firmly on the map because Aucklanders are flocking here any time of day. Brunch was delicious, I got the big breakfast with free range bacon; birthday girl got the mushrooms on toast which reportedly was yummy. Central hub of the café is the kitchen and counters, open plan and in full view of customers. If you want it a little quieter walk through to the second room which has a cosey family corner with multiple couches and lots of toys for toddlers. There are plenty of tables to accommodate the patrons and under-cover outside seating.

I remember when I first got to Auckland at the beginning of summer and so many people were raving about this place. Like it was supposed to be the next big thing. In reality it was a pretty cool space. There was a busy and frantic atmosphere going on and people were sitting amongst the massive and small picnic style table set up in the space. We ordered and I remember one of us ordered a shake which turned out to be pretty great and I had the vegetarian spicy noodle something salad. It was really good. The coffee was decent though I wish it was slightly stronger. I’m a fussy coffee person though. The space was expansive with two separate rooms. There were some crazy kids running around too, so I suppose it’s pretty kid friendly. I think I spotted some crafts and stuff and toys for them to play with. In all it is a great spot. Very chill but it can get chaotic. I’m glad we went.

This neighbourhood café is a firm favourite in West Auckland, and it’s not hard to see why: in an area somewhat lacking in decent places to have a quick coffee or pick up lunch, Humbug ably fills this gap, and it’s all done with style and great service. Our lunch on this day is a BLT for one of us, a halloumi sandwich for the other, and a shared plate of chips. The chips, served with aioli and thick tomato sauce, are surely some of the best in Auckland, and we accordingly devour them in about one minute. The sandwiches are generous, fresh, and the only wrong note is that the lettuce in the BLT has gone in the sandwich press so comes out warm and a bit soggy, which is the opposite of how most people enjoy their lettuce. However, the bacon is free range(as is their chicken and eggs) and their bottled drinks and sauces are from local independent producers, so I can give them a pass on some less– than-thrilling lettuce. The tables are around us are filled with families, locals popping out for coffee and workmates having meetings; all are treated with the same friendly and efficient service, and it’s a testament to the café that any empty tables are filled with constant new arrivals.
