Would recommend it if you like overpriced, stale, over done bagels with toppings that look like it was put together by a 3 year old. So many much better options in New Lynn now.

This place has always been on my to-visit list since its so close to where I live so I managed to convince my friend to have our coffee catch up out my way. I ordered the cold brew and it was served up in a cute presentation with sparking water and a giant ice ball. Once coffee was sorted, I spent some time perusing my breakfast options which was basically all bagels but I love bagels! And not only that, they are served on Best Ugly bagels! I thoroughly enjoyed both my cold brew and the pastrami bagel and I would definitely come back again but next time I might try walking so I can justify fitting in an ice cream after brunch too! On a side note: they stock Fix an Fogg peanut butter so extra bonus points!

I have been here before for a coffee which was great but not exactly on point. So decided to give these guys another shot and they didn’t disappoint Coffee was good and so was the french toast bagel, although the size of the bagel could have been a tad bigger. Finished off with a coconut blueberry milkshake which was yum. Service is prompt, warm and friendly.

This place is pretty special and kicked off a revamp of New Lynn a few years back so deserves some extra points for that. The coffee is awesome and the ice-cream even better — there’s a menu of bagels if you feel the need for something a little more substantial and it is super kid friendly if you’ve got little ones in tow. The only downfall is that the lunch menu is pretty much only bagels, so if you’re not fan then you’ll have to stick to the sweet stuff — luckily that’s not such a bad option!

A touch of finesse out West! The Tannery in the heart of West Auckland believes that good things come in pairs and I would have to agree! Especially when you combine a coffee roastery with an ice cream creamery. Serving Kohu Road Ice Cream and Mt Atkinson Coffee which is roasted in house. Mt Atkinson coffee was created in commemoration of Jacob the roasters good Friend Andy Atkinson who tragically passed away. With the aim of bring joy and people together through a great cup off coffee. With the aim of being ‘The Best in the West’ the concept of the Refined Westie at The Tannery is on point! The black, white and wood outlay makes for one cool café space. The coffee I had was a piccolo latte served with my favourite almond milk from Carew Kitchen was made to perfection. I can’t wait to come back her in summer when it’s a bit warmer and have a side of the delicious looking ice cream with my coffee! This is a great café for the whole family and a true Westie gem

This was once my favorite place for a bagel. Being local I’ve been here a lot. Today it took 25 minutes before I approached the counter to ask where my bagel was. I was told it was about to be started. However, people who had walked in after me had theirs already. I was then told they had a huge rush so it was taking time. How long does one bagel take to toast and adorn with 4 ingredients? Plus I had been in the café before all but 2 of those still sitting down and waiting/eating. Really disappointed. Probably won’t return now. A lunch ruined by simple lack of service.

Lunch had not filled the sweet void and the urge, which would not be squashed no matter how hard I wrestled with it, to head to New Lynn and eat Kohu Road golden syrup ice cream came on with a vengeance. Of course one scoop became two. Who in their right mind could choose between golden syrup and salted caramel? Both were superb, cold, creamy, sweet treats. The staff were friendly, chatty and knowledgable. For instance: the kitchen is kosher. A Rabbi comes in to check it. That’s the reason none of Kohu Road ice creams have nuts. To top a taste delight off, I had the Herald word-find puzzle in front of me. Today’s word: daub. And after two daubs(generous ones) of heaven I drove home with an ice cream-induced headache and the smile lunch hadn’t delivered.

This place is in the middle of nowhere, but worth a visit considering Kohu Rd ice cream is actually produced here. There’s a window into the production kitchen just to the right of the counter. Salted caramel is a definite must try, but probably worth sampling two or three. If you are smart enough to have a chilly bin in the back of the car(I have a friend who does!) then you could always leave with your very own container. I didn’t have coffee, it was all about the ice cream, but can report the counter food looked good — the chocolate caramel and ginger slices in particular. And I loved the caravan(yes, actual caravan) inside the building for kids to play in.

Had the Unilocal elite event here last night. Love their ice cream so much, had to come back for more today. The salted caramel is just fantastic. Mango sorbet is very smooth and refreshing. And the scoop size is very generous. So if you love ice cream, come over to the Tannery for a scoop or two or three or even the 1litre tub of their award winning all natural organic creamy concoction.

If I could, I’d give this place a 3.5. I’d been dying to come out here to try the famous Kohu Rd ice cream, ever since I saw Lisa Chapelle’s play«Fred» where a woman is saved from cannibals by the overwhelming amazingness of Kohu Rd ice cream!!! The ice cream is definitely 5 stars. The folks are happy to allow you to taste lots of flavors before you make your choice, which is going to be very hard because they’re all over the top amazing. Love. I went with the cookies and cream and salted caramel, and the salted caramel is to DIE for. I also was quite into the fig flavor… next time… The reason I’m docking a few stars off is for the food. I’m a big fan of Best Ugly bagels, which Tannery features, but Best Ugly folks will tell you, the bagels MUST be toasted, otherwise you can forget it. I’ve had this happen at other places that sell BUBs(Espresso Workshop in Britomart, for one), where they don’t properly toast the bagel and it just ends up tasting a bit bready and stale. It ruins the whole thing. Also, the chutney on my haloumi bagel was too sweet to be eaten in the quantity it was put on the bagel. Something needs to be done to dial that down, and toast the bagel up. We didn’t try the coffee on this trip, but a friend got a smoothie, which was a bit disturbing because it started separating the minute it was brought to the table. The mix of items weren’t balanced properly or something(s) weren’t cold enough that it ended up looking like a frothy juice or a watery somethingorother. Not what you want in a smoothie. There’s a lot of promise here — what could be better than bagels, ice cream, and good coffee? The space is huge and pretty cute. Plenty of tables and a nice industrial feel… the number of kids running around unattended on the weekend was a bit wild and crazy for my taste. Service was mixed — some folks were super friendly, others a bit standoffish hipster style. I’ll definitely be back for ice cream… hoping they can up their bagel game to really work the trifecta of deliciousness they promise!

The Tannery is home to Mt Atkinson coffee and Kohu road ice cream. Now they also serve Best Ugly Bagels. We try and stop In here whenever we venture out west — for service with a smile, string well made coffee and the bagels– on a par with those you get at Best Ugly HQ. we love that there are two small local artisans in one place. If you are lucky you can watch the Kohu ice cream makers at work though the glass and the smell in the Mt Atkinson roasting yumm.

Just enjoyed good coffee and tasty Ugly Bagel. Very cold outside but warm inside this large ex tannery space. Service could have been quicker however staff so nice we were not bothered.

Used to be called Kohu Rd and now the Tannery. Been here a few times the service was mixed. The menu is very limited. We ordered coffee and a muffin. The coffee took like 20 mins when there was hardly anyone around. The muffin didn’t come with the coffee. So we waited for another 15 mins and there was still nothing. Got told the gentlemen who took the order left it out… Great for kids to run around as they have a refurbished little caravan for them to play in.

Finally they have a decent café in New Lynn — fantastic! I don’t live in West Auckland, however I do pop out to see friends and(occasional) work appointments — so I was delighted to read about this new addition in Canvas magazine! Not the easiest place to find. It’s on the left after the big petrol station! Parking right outside. Extremely roomy inside with lots of seating, industrial-feel with concrete floors and exposed beams. There is a caravan for the children to play in, Kohu icecream and best ugly bagels on offer. The ambience is casual, not much personality though. The staff appear pre-occupied and disconnected? I ordered ‘the king’ which is a traditional cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion and caper bagel for $ 12.90. It was delicious however slightly over priced maybe? This is not ‘Best Ugly’ at City Depot Works… Long black was decent. I will comeback when they are making the Kohu Road ice cream on Saturday’s, I hear!

This place has now been re-named the Tannery and has less food options. Unfortunately, I’m not sure this is going to work out. It didn’t work for me

Neatly tucked away from the main road, this place is a great and very comfortable place to relax and enjoy time out with really nice food. The place itself is definitely well setup for families! Spacious and very airy, there is a sense that leaves you feeling very relaxed. I really like the«caravan» where the kids can kind of hang out. Food on the menu is simple but oh so delicious. Coffees and hot and cold drinks are always well prepared. The ice cream is quite easily the best for miles around! You really have to try the various flavours ! I could go on about the ice cream for quite some time!‘ Most definitely one of my favourite places, and one where I go with family and close friends regularly.
