Even though it’s not the trendiest, Ironique is a solid brunch place in Mt Eden village. Only came here because my mum loves the décor and decoration, but the food was satisfyingly solid. They didn’t have mashed potato for my vege eggs benedict but told me promptly at order. A good spillover café.

They do great cabinet food, especially cakes… If you found circus circus and Frasers overflow with people, you can tried this place. I think they open till late as well! We had brunch here a few times, food are good, but a little greasy… Their service is awesome though. This time I order a hot mocha and they served me a cold one… Once we told them, they leave the cold drink for us and made me a hot mocha with my name on it!

I have only been here at weekends when the brunch crowd are out in force and there’s often a bit of a crush/queue. The counter area is badly designed and to get out to the seating area in the rear requires squeezing past people ordering. Not a biggie but some of the clientele are a bit snooty and impatient so wear your thick skin and your smile. The décor is interesting and very quirky. The food is ok. Nothing that special, standard café fare — quiche, bagels, scones etc on the counter and a blackboard menu of salads etc. The coffee is a-ok. The staff have always been efficient, if a bit brusque, but working in a busy, hot café on a hot day can be exhausting and I think sometimes customers expect to be fawned over. Unfortunately my last visit was cut short by someone smoking in the outdoor area. I didn’t know this was still allowed. We were enjoying the sunshine and about to order some wine but decided to finish up and leave when our oxygen supply was invaded by the stench of cigarette smoke. Ugh. It’s time this antisocial habit was banned and its proponents banished.

One of the better cafes in the village. Has become a regular place to catch up with friends. Good food. Quieter than some of the other places and tables not so jammed in so that you feel you can actually have a conversation without everyone in the place hearing you, and if you have a little one in tow then there are high chairs, which some of the other cafes have done away with completely or just don’t have any room at all for baby and buggy.

Hold your horses, don’t rush into this place there really is no need. This joint has a small front face but has vast areas inside, including a large secluded patio. Decoration is sparse but consists of wrought iron and old metal pieces. The bathroom door and the bathroom are fantastic. Alas, the highlights stop there. Our party was served by the most laconic of servers(and maybe high). Tossing things on the table, not paying attention, gruffly answering questions. Wine list is very, very sad. Not even an effort to showcase the cheaper NZ gems. Food is served in massive plates, and it is interesting how they recycle sauces(eg., soup of the day tomato basil also makes an appearance in the pumpkin ravioli with. wait for it… that same soup as a sauce). Overall very unsatisfactory meal. Not worth it.

I’ve been a number of times over the last couple of years for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is always really good and reasonably priced, the location is great(in the middle of Mt Eden village), and the big outdoor courtyard at the back is a fantastic place. However, the service has always been mediocre and never that friendly — but always professional. I came here for an afternoon coffee and sometime to eat, and as usual the food and coffee were great. The service through was worse than usual. The person who took my order at the counter barely said a word to me, and when she delivered my food and coffee she just put them on the other end of the table from me and walked away without a word. So I’d come here if you aren’t worried about friendly service — the food, prices and location are worth it.

Stopped into this café for a coffee after a walk up Mt Eden. Asked for an iced coffee with just milk, coffee and ice and was assured it was no problem. 15 mins later, it appears and it’s full of some sort of syrup/sweetener. I politely ask, again, for it to be just coffee, milk and ice. It gets taken away, and I’m STILL waiting for it as I write this review. In the meantime, my husband’s flat white arrives, devoid of any foam, in a dirty cup and slopped over the edge. Not sure why this café is rated so highly, tbh. I won’t be coming back.

Thanks to Unilocal,I just found my new fav spot in Mt Eden! We were meant to go to another café for w quick dinner, but it turns out it was closed, and with no idea where to go and what to eat, I busted out my phone and saw Ironique having an almost perfect rating and was super close to us!(I know this sounds cheesy but it’s true!!!) Ironique has the kind of store front that I would pass it by a million times without noticing it. It’s so hidden and tucked away but holds so many secrets it’s awesome! If you walk in through their narrow front, the back yields a very large courtyard with seating inside and outside. It’s like we stepped into another world! The metal fixtures are very interesting and it’s such a comfy place, their bathroom is in the back if you’re wondering, I only noticed because of the cool door. My lamb shank was so good I can be tucked in bed with it in the middle of a snowy mountain and I’ll be perfectly warm and comfy. It’s like the best kind of hearty home food but made with so much detail in every bit that there’s no way someone could turn this out at home, it’s so nicely balanced and in harmony, I’m in heaven! Ok ok, whenever I find a new gem of a café I always get overly excited and praise the place too much. I’m definitely heading there again soon so I’ll write a new or update this one :)

This place is incredible. Their food is so good, I always have their chicken burger which is delicious while my man always raves about their Thai Beef Salad. They possibly have the best iced chocolates EVER. No joke. IT’s AMAZING. The courtyard is lovely on warm days as well!

The best café in mt eden. Yes its miles better than circus circus and all other cafes in the area. This is why: An imaginative and delicious menu. You get food that you could not dream up at home let alone cook yourself. The food appears to have been cooked after it has been ordered(take note circus circus). It’s low key. Great portion sizes, filling but not intimidating. Particular favourite is the baked beans with chorizo. The smoothies are tyite and they nail there coffees. It always my first choice.

Good place to grab some quality food. Friendly staff who let us have some scones as we were the last customers of the night and they would otherwise have to throw them out.

A few years ago when I first arrived on these shores, I lived in Mt Eden for the first six months and I would often wonder up to the village to grab a coffee. There were the obvious places such as Circus Circus and Frasers to head to but more often than not I would find myself chilling out in Ironique. Last week I once again found myself in this fine café and it is definitely my favourite spot in Mt Eden to go and chill out with a cuppa. Not only is the coffee consistantly good, there are always amazing looking cakes to entice you whilst ordering. I’ve eaten here mainly for breakfast and never been unhappy with either the quantity or quality. Then of course there is the very cool furnishings throughout the café, make sure you have a look around when you’re here, as you’ll be surprised to see watering cans as light fittings for example. There is a pretty big outdoor garden at the back of the café, with lots of shade which makes it ideal place to chill even on the hottest summer day. Enjoy.

A busy and bustling café situated in the middle of the Mt Eden Village, Ironique serves delicious coffee and the best big breakfast I’ve ever had. Sausages, poached eggs, ciabatta bread, tomatoes, hash browns, mushrooms, relish — it’s seriously the best time ever. The meal is so big I could barely finish it, and as a hearty breakfast lover this is saying something! Though a sucker for their breakfast meals and strong coffees, Ironique’s cabinet food also always looks fresh and delicious and I’m an advocate for their smoothies. Grab a delicious fruity smoothie and enjoy the sunny outdoor area — you can’t beat it. Despite being busy, the atmosphere of Ironique is always pretty laidback and relaxed, meaning you never feel rushed to eat quickly and can enjoy devouring your meals and sweet delights in your own time. Plus, the staff are lovely and welcoming — Ironique is a good time all around!

«Ironique» roughly cut into a large under-awning sign? Oh ho! You have my sense of humour and my business, sir. This is the best café in the Mt Eden area with a large, partially covered courtyard at the rear. The steam-punk meets New Zealand gum-diggers theme is fun and interesting without becoming to overbearing on the senses. The staff have also learnt the importance of good service, namely, checking on customers during the meal or coffee or wine. The only downside is the small counter you have to awkwardly line up at or squeeze past. But that is a minor detail inside the intimate and friendly café, where it preferable to enjoy a drink until any queue dissipates. Ironique easily outshines the surrounding cafés with rustic style and cheerful service and should be the first stop for people exploring the area.

First of all, I hate the name. ‘Ironique’? Really? It’s almost enough for me to choose another café over it. Does that make me shallow and a terrible person? Probably. Other than that, the Mt Eden café is pretty good. I had brunch there, my eggs were good, the meal was generous. My coffee was okay. We sat in the outdoor courtyard — if you’re looking for a place with outdoor dining, this is it. It’s sunny and there are plenty of tables out there. Do not be fooled by general dark appearance of the front of the establishment, that courtyard is the shit.

This place has an amazing secret, a HUGE sunny courtyard out the back. You can walk through the café sometimes and think oh this place isn’t very popular, they you make your way out the back and it’s full and bustling. I really enjoy coming here, its so relaxing sitting outside, I do it alllllll the time, sometimes for coffee and sometimes for a full meal I just love it. The décor is really quirky, I’m not sure how to describe it but for an example, the toilets have a sink on the outside door haha. It’s a big café, I don’t think you would ever have the issue of not getting a table, unless if it was really raining outside I suppose. Their food is yum yum! They offer all the usuals from cabinet quiches to full cooked breakfasts. If you are ever in Mt Eden shops and feel stressed from the city and the traffic etc, just go to Ironique and sit out the back for a while it’s like the miracle cure!

A favourite café by both my husband and I! Absolutely fabulous coffee and lunches. and pretty good service, has always been friendly and attentive when we have gone. Do you love a hot breakfast like us at any time of the day? Then try out the eggs… with salmon, yummo! This was also the first place we discovered ‘bowls’ of coffee in this land of the long white cloud, not something we were familiar with back home in Oz. They are far too big for me, but it sure put a smile on my man’s face. Décor has everything the arty-farty type will like too — unique, creative, eye-catching and practically entwined throughout the venue.
