Amazing place with a friendly vibe. Offering traditional Mediterranean cuisine and shisha outdoors if that’s your thing. We were a large group, so ordered a couple of platters and pizzas to share. The platters are the perfect size to share between 2 people with a selection of their best starters(the capsicum dip was my favourite!) with both meat and vegetarian options available. For $ 21 you can’t go wrong. The pizzas were also huge and we had plenty of leftovers to take home for lunches the next day. Shisha downstairs, outside on the covered deck(so rain isn’t a problem) and you can order food and drinks as well. Lots of stairs to get into and around the restaurant so be mindful of this if you have accessibility requirements. Friendly staff and quick service for the food — they also have a kids menu so they’re totally family friendly. We will be back to try out more the menu soon.

The lady that served us when we walked in was soooo rude ! She almost looked like she didn’t want us there at all. I went with some work colleagues after work on a Sunday evening for some dinner & a shisha… Because it was my first time I was taking a lil while to decide on what I wanted to eat, just as I happen to look up at her she had rolled her eyes at me, oh boy terrible terrible. We had her serve us half the night & she just was so angry. Mid way a few other ladies came to serve us were very nice. Other than a bad experience the first time round with the European lady that served us, the food was actually delicious and I really enjoyed the venue.

Great location and place to hang out on a weekend or week night. Especially if you enjoy a nice flavoured shisha

Actually one of the smoothest shishas i’ve had in auckland… environment looks a little shady and cramped out back on the deck but you can only do shisha outside. This place is actaully quite popular and fills up really fast. Service is ok. Drinks are the usual. Pizza tasted nice and simple. but the shisha was definitely a winner and worth the visit. They also have a lot more flavours here too. we tried the brandy and added mint which was interesting… more on the minty side tho.

I like this place a lot. I like that they have comics strung up in the window, and I like that they’re terrible Marvel comics from the mid-nineties because that’s when I started reading Marvel comics as a kid and so I will always have time for steroidal men with glowing eyes and too many shoulder pads. I also like that this place is tiny. There’s something about small, cluttered bookshops that’s just so appealing. And there are more comics inside and they’re a cool mix of old ones and new ones, and they’re all only a few dollars, and there are obscure books about old TV shows and I’m pretty sure they had a copy of the first Tintin book in there once plus there’s even a dirty section behind a curtain and that’s probably got comics in it too because that’s just how awesome this place is … I think I’ve only ever bought like two things from this place. But I just like that it’s there.

Popped into Jaan whilst walking around Kingsland shops after a busy afternoon of free music in Nixon Park. A very welcoming café built into an old Kingsland villa, the owners were actually there having a coffee and welcomed us in to have a look at the menu. Also there waitress/cashier was super friendly coming down to where we standing to talk to us. We decided to grab some ten dollar takeaway pizzas — tender roasted chicken with peppers, and BBQ sauce, and the Vegetarian with feta cheese, peppers, olives and tomato. The pizzas are special on the weekends takeaway but cost more if you dine in. All in all great vibe, they have the most vibrant funky Shisha pipes for twenty dollars, and amazing looking fresh kebabs in the glass counter to tempt ones appetite. Will make sure I revisit the Jaan Café for more delights soon.

Jaan has always divided my group of friends. Some people love and some people don’t. To be sure, the service has it’s ups and downs — strangely it seems to be better when they are busy. In any case, the food is good — my favourite being the moussaka. My only complaint, and it’s common across many restaurants these days, is that the seating it a little close together. If you’re a party of two it can sometimes feel like you’re a party of six with two strangers either side of you. To be fair, this might only be on busier nights.

A wonderful place for shisha and that is all I will have at this restaurant. The first time I went to Jaan a friend had sung praises about the place so a group of us decided to pop in on a causal Friday night to have some wine, smoke some shisha and have a good chat. The service was extremely poor with waitresses who seemed more interested in their personal lives than actually giving us any attention. That completely put me off returning to Jaan’s again. I would understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t, having to flag a waitress after every 5 minutes is not fun at all! Nonetheless the shisha there is actually decent so if you are prepared to ignore the bad service, shisha at Jaan’s is a good idea. They do provide blankets for those days when its chilly outside.
