Japa Deli

Love this place, it’s our local cheap and cheerful Japanese fix. Popped in for a light meal, and did our usual tapas style ordering. As per usual, attentive staff, good food (the salmon sashimi just melted in my mouth!!), and $ 46 total for a beer, a beef tataki, takoyaki, calamari rings (light and not greasy at all!), and mixed sashimi with salmon, tuna, and white fish.
Missing a star because the chicken karaage isn’t up to par so we’ve stopped ordering it, but everything else is beautiful.

I have been to Japa Deli a few times now, and to be honest it’s nice but it’s not the best Japanese I’ve ever had. I find living in Auckland it is very easy to become a ‘Japanese snob’ as some places do a sensational job at making their meals, and others not so much. Japa Deli however is the equilibrium.
Japa Deli is affordable Japanese located on the outskirts of town. They have no customer parking, but there are a few side streets and parking buildings in the vicinity where you can park. The best part about going at night is that road side parking is free after 6pm, otherwise your dining experience could be cut short with the one hour max parking metres.
I try to eat different things when I go to restaurants, and from what I’ve had at Japa Deli it has all been good. I especially like the banana tempura dessert we had at my friend’s birthday dinner. It’s not a meal on the menu, but they had no problem making it for us when requested. Great customer service.

Japa Deli is a nice little restaurant/​café on the corner of Anzac Ave and Beach Road. Quite nice inside, it is rather small and intimate; more of a café setting than a Japanese restaurant, which is fine because good coffee should be sold everywhere.
The authentic Japanese food that they serve is really delicious, but I felt the portions were rather small. For the price I’d say that it’s pretty good though, as most of the dishes are around $ 10.
Sometimes they have half price sushi for sale at the end of the day, so keep a lookout for this. The sushi is amazing! The staff here are really friendly too which always makes a big difference.

I’m pretty fussy when it comes to where exactly I buy my sushi, as there is some really substandard stuff out there. While sushi can and often does go horribly wrong, when its made correctly you can’t beat it. The little morsels they make here are pure joy. Fluffy rice pockets filled with fresh ingredients, YUM!
While they do have pre-​packaged packs here available for takeaway purposes, they can also make your own personal choice of sushi filling in a ‘sushi cone’ on the spot for you.
As well as Sushi, they also have other Japanese style dishes served on the premises in this modern café style restaurant all at super duper reasonable prices.
What I like most about Japa Deli however is that they deliver too! We had a late night meeting at work the other night and I had a platter of sushi rolls delivered to the office, which my colleagues were all really impressed by. Made a change to the usual stodgy sausege rolls etc!
