We came in pretty close to their closing time while on vacation, so they didn’t have quite as much up on the belt but were happy to make anything on the menu for us, which they did with a quickness. Honestly we really enjoyed our visit as we had just walked out of another restaurant less than a block away for poor service. They are SOFRIENDLY at Sushi Train. If we were going to be in town longer we would 100% visit again for solid Sushi and great service. Prices were great too.

This is comparable to a blue c sushi in the states; the sushi is placed on the conveyor belt with two chefs working in the middle of the restaurant. This place is pretty clean and prices are great, in fact, this was one of the most cost effective places we dined in all of New Zealand, for 4 sushi plates off the belt we managed to get out of here for under $ 20. Service was friendly and attentive without being annoying. We really wanted some sake but they do not sell alcohol here. It is a byob place though with plenty of convenience stores within walking distance.

Good selection and free tea refills. Average sushi but fun experience. Perfect for that quick lunch with friends.

While I generally try and avoid the downtown area because of its complete lack of parking and how inconvenient it can be to get to, but I make exceptions for a few places; Sushi Train is one of them. If you’ve never been to a sushi train-style restaurant before, keep it in mind that these places can end up quite expensive, so always pay attention to the chart on the wall that shows you how much each plate of sushi is. If you’re buying sushi in a container, you can usually expect to pay about $ 7 – 10 for 6 – 8 pieces, but at a sushi train restaurant, your average two-piece plate will cost around $ 4 – 5. The trouble is, as the sushi slowly rolls past you, you’ll likely snap up quite a few, particularly if you’re hungry! Food is literally being waved under your nose! Sushi Train’s product is fresh and tasty, and if you have a particular request, it will be whipped up in seconds for you. As for the service, everyone who walks in and out of the doors can expect a big hello and goodbye!
