Yum! Food was great. I got beef donburi around $ 12 or $ 14. It was a big bowl and it was delicious. Really recommend this place especially when you want something different for lunch during work. Tried the lettuce cup as a snack too and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. It cost $ 6 for 1 but it was worth it. Service was average, server was nice and polite, it wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great.

Some of the best bars are the smallest and Fukuko is no exception — a focus on Japanese cocktails and beer, this place has things you won’t find anywhere else. The cocktails are a highlight, and the Earl Grey Martini is worth a try. If you’re off to Ebisu for dinner this is a perfect spot for a quick tipple.

Best cocktails in Britomart … My big recommendation would be the cucumber cocktail but hubby loves espresso martini. Very friendly, I hear the food is awesome, will def eat next time. This is a must stop in the district!

While meeting up with some friends and looking to satisfy a cocktail craving, we decided to waltz into Fukuko and were not disappointed. Fukuko is just another gem that is turning Britomart into a truly exceptional spot in Auckland. It had a modern and industrial feel but also super relaxed and just prime to have a good time. I made a beeline on their drinks menu to the Rogue Sobriety which was designed simply inspired by the fantastic Rogue Society Gin that just can’t stop winning awards at the moment. Wait staff was prompt and knew the value of good service. We ordered some seaweed/wasabi fried crisps/chips and some delicious Japanese fried chicken and gobs of Japanese mayo, although the chicken portions were absurdly uneven. If you like Sav Blanc they have a decent one on tap for $ 8, so really with Fukuko how can you really go wrong???

Tucked away to Tyler Street Garage, a small sign points to one of the best kept secrets, Fukuko. As a first, or even second or third time comer, there’s plenty to look at. It’s not your typical after work bar with pulsating music pierced with roars of laughter — there’s an air of certain sophistication and innovativeness. Framed by dark wooden beams with polished concrete floors and stools covered by rabbit fur flaps, there’s a certain edgy or even quirky vibe. You’ll notice the big jars which look a bit like movie props from a sci-fi movie with the fluorescent colours. And that is the shōchū infusing right in front of yours eyes. Say what? Certainly not a mispelled«sake» or «soju». Shōchū originated in the southern regions of Japan and is a distilled spirit with an alcohol content of typically 25%, depending on distillation process. Unlike sake which is brewed, the distillation process means that the more shōchū is distilled, the purer it is. For a single distillation, the shōchū is made with one raw material which gives it the raw and distinct aromas. Multiple distillations where the shōchū goes through several distillations mean that it is smoother, and ideal for mixing cocktails. No matter what the ingredients, shōchū is always has a clear and light flavor. And this little known drink is what is embraced by Fukuko, which boasts a cocktail menu designed by mixologist Paul Franich. You’ll find the now-famous Earl Grey martini — concocted with early grey and juniper berry shōchū — freshened with sugar and lemon juice. Exquisite. You’ll want to try their East-meets-West food with the drinks though. For a nibble, there are the nori-chips. Seaweed is no longer reserved just for sushi! These are deceptively healthy, you’ll find yourself reaching for more until your fingers hit the bottom.

Fukuko(meaning ‘lucky child’ in Japanese) is a small but funky bar tucked away down Tyler St in Britomart. Serving shochu(somwhere between sake and whiskey) drinks/cocktails and snack food, Fukuko is the perfect place to go to for after work drinks and Japanese bar food. A friend and I came here for a light meal and shochu cocktail one Thursday night. We had just spend an hour shopping as part of Britomart’s VIP Winter Shopping Spree. It was relatively quiet when we arrived, but soon filled up while we were looking at the menu. We decided on the shochu cocktails. I ordered the ‘Baku’($ 16) which consisted of whiskey, lime juice, sugar, mint and blended together with an egg white. Very interesting cocktail, as the egg white made it creamier! For food, we ordered two lots of the Steamed Pork Buns($ 5.50) with pork belly, cucumber, spring onion and hoisin sauce and the New Style Sashimi Lettuce Cups($ 6.50) with seared tuna, avocado, jalapeño and lime. Both dishes were fantastic! The pork buns were perfect and the sashimi lettuce cups fresh and tasty. I would definitely come back just to try these two dishes again — maybe next time I will order three of each!!!

A perfect little bar on Tyler street with a Japanese flair. Small snacks and plates are available along with a selection Japanese inspired cocktails and Sake. Very small so there is limited space, but this also seems to keep the crowd manageable!

After hearing rave reviews, Mils and I finally tried out Fukuko on Friday night and I must say, I loved it. Fukuko is relatively small and dimly lit but being street level with lots of the windows the space still feels open. The vibe is relaxed and casual cool, which is hard to find in downtown Auckland, particularly on a Friday night. The high tables and stools add to the informality as does the laidback hip hop D. J and friendly bartenders, who don’t mind a double boston shake… efficiency at it’s best. Fukuko is a Shochu Cocktail bar and whilst you can get the Japanese spirit neat, they also have a number of delicious Shochu based concoctions, including a Earl Grey Martini, which Mils opted for(and I tasted… it’s as good as it sounds). I went for the Japanese Gimlet, which was refreshing but, as to be expected with a gimlet, a bit boring. I didn’t really care too much though, as the drinks were a steal at only $ 12 each! As for the food, Mils and I shared a massive bowl of Edamame beans, the Wayku beef and ginger dumplings and the fried chicken with Japanese mayo. All were delish — the Edamame perfectly salted, the fried chicken crispy not greasy, and the dumplings delicate with a hit of ginger(albiet, a little bit underwhelming). Definitely come here if you are after a fun, laid-back vibe but can’t bothered dealing with the usual Friday raucous!

I can see why this establishment is highly rated for its cocktails. They are deliciously awesome! For the first timers, I highly recommend the«1841» cocktail.

Haven’t eaten at Fukuko, but three cocktails down the other night, I think I should’ve indulged. Fukuko is a small bar that feels like it’s designed to cater to the people waiting for a table at Ebisu or one of the nearby Britomart eateries. The cocktails are good — we had the Earl Grey Martini(very good), the Gimlet(equally as good), a champagne cocktail I can’t remember the name of(not as good) and a cocktail with a number as the name but I can’t remember that either(several high fives for this one). The service is okay, I’ve had friendlier waiters but this guy did the job. The table next to us had food and although I can’t tell you what it tasted like, I can say that it looked good. Parking in Britomart sucks.

Fukuko is a cool little bar in the Britomart Precinct that is just that little bit different with its waxed looking concrete floors fur covered bar stools. The drinks menu is actually cool to read, with twists on some classics and Fukuko originals thrown in the mix which make for some interesting drink options. There is also wide range of Japanese sake and whisky as well as the very popular Japanese beer Kirin. Although Fukuko is a bar, the food is not your usual bar food(forget boring peanuts). The Japanese inspired, western fusion small plates really add to the overall experience of Fukuko which is a little funky and quirky. The staff here are very nice too, they actually go over the menus with you and happily explain any of the dishes or drinks if you’re somewhat culture shocked. Fukuko is a place I’d go back to just because it is different and also for the nori chips.
