Another AVERAGE to Low level Korean Restaurant. The Quality and Quantity of the dishes are Getting Poor and Poorer… The ONLY good thing for this place is they Open till Late night…

Picked up bibimbob here for takeout dinner while on vacay in auckland. Very good and a good size portion — i was able to have some left over for the next day even. I was happy to see they even included those side dishes. When i picked up the food, the service was fast and friendly, and there were a lot of korean customers there so i saw that as a good sign. Price is reasonable — at first i was concerned when i saw $ 25 and such, but perhaps those were for bigger shared dishes? Mine came up to $ 13. No credit cards, which is a bummer. Décor is basic.

Food was ok. Gets an additional star for having late hours. They also have plenty of tables so it’s great for casual dinner with friends. They have K-Pop playing on their TV… which offers some amusing entertainment.

A yes from me. Nothing spectacular, as mentioned in the other reviews, but Kang Nam Station has always been an old reliable favourite. The location isn’t too bad, being close to the Auckland Town Hall, Q Theatre and other locations of entertainment.

OPPAKANGNAMSTYLE! There, I did it. I’ve thought about making that joke for far too long, and I’m both ashamed and a bit puzzled that I’m the first one to do so. Safe to say I probably won’t be getting any«funny» votes today though. Kang Nam station has been an institution in Auckland for as long as I’ve headed down to Queen Street. It used to put out all kinds of odors, and I swore to myself I’d never go in there. Luckily, 13 year old me was a bit of a dick, so I recently decided to head on down and check out what this green wonder could do for me. Inside, there is a tree — so I was instantly hooked. The menus came out, we ordered, and when the food arrived I was stoked. Plates packed full of meat and vegetables with that distinctive korean spice taste, and the price was well within the reach of even the most spendthrifty of the group I was with.

If you’re a vegetarian then this place won’t be top of your friends list. But if you like big piles of spicy meat at low prices, then Kang Nam is for you. Also if you are a small child and like the idea of eating in a train that is somehow bigger on the inside than on the outside, then Kang Nam is for you. There’s even a tree in there just to add to the impractical magic wonderland feel of the place. I enjoyed the food, which is much like what you’d expect if you’re familiar with Korean cuisine. It’s turned into a bit of a pre– or post-drinking place, but actually the food stands up to a sober palate. Also of note are the staff, who are very friendly but not in an overpowering way.

There’s a plethora of Korean cafes up and down dotted through the CBD(that’s a good thing, in case you’re in doubt); some top notch, some middling, and some better off avoided. Kang Nam Station is an old favourite of many, an old reliable. It’s unlikely to blow your socks off, but you’ll always know what you’re getting, the prices are very reasonable, and they’re open until 2am, which means you can get a decent meal until late and avoid the mystery meat kebab shops. Service is unfailing friendly. Décor is cheap and cheerful, and don’t be put off by the small frontage, there’s actually quite a lot of space out the back, as well as tree growing through floor! Avoid the hard mints by the till; I chipped a tooth on one.

I’ve been here a couple of times. It’s a popular spot to check out. I remember this one time my friend was a little too tipsy and we had ventured into town and she insisted on going inside when we passed it. She eventually ordered almost everything of the menu and ate hardly anything before we ventured of further. But in that time the staff were so friendly and accommodating — especially to her. And the food came out timely and it was all really lovely. A good and fun place to pop into. It’s asking for it really. The bright colours and weird shape of the building make it quite the unique spot in a city full of Asian cuisine eateries.

This bright green, blue and yellow Korean restaurant is so hard to miss that even if you were colour-blind, it would still stick out like a sore thumb with its little green fence and bizarre shape. Not only that though, it looks so isolated and lonely there on the corner of Queen Street and Mayoral Drive. It certainly creates quite an impression on me every time I pass on by, and I often think that it is something that should belong at MOTAT. Anyway, enough about the craziness of the building. The inside is quite nice, and the food is delicious and inexpensive. All the meals are big portions which always leave me feeling satisfied. With the abundance of Korean restaurants to choose from on upper Queen Street, this one is a fine choice.
