Easy to miss, but with seeking out! This is a tiny shop, with a number of lovely options suitable for vegans, dairy-free and other diets. I enjoyed a very filling salad, and a wicked ginger slice. Pricey(salad was $ 19) but a nice treat in the CBD, I’ll check out again.

Newly opened branch of Little Bird downtown. You step up from the street into a small space, just big enough for the counter and a couple of seats. Guess it’s more of a takeout branch. Los of gluten and dairy free salads, slices, cheesecakes and tarts, adorned with edible flowers. Bonus for the guy who came in to get his girlfriend a gf and df treat, he could choose from virtually everything in the cabinet.

Ive been dying to try food from Little Bird and finally got there today. Totally YUM!!! I had the onion sandwhich. So filling and tasty and OMG the raspberry ginger cheesecake… What can I say? There was a party in my mouth and a smile in my dial. I will never be able to enjoy normal cheesecake again

In a world where so many people have dietary restrictions this place is a god send . I agree it is on the pricey side but you’re going to be paying a bit more to have a piece of mind that you can eat without feeling any side effects . I went for a passion fruit cheesecake it was nice, but after sitting down at the rather small table. Notwithstanding this place is more of a eat on the run type, I wished I had gone for a chocolaty type of slice or cake . They also sell takeaway salads which seem to be a substantial amount, but I’ve seen the same for less at other cafes. And you can buy bottled nut milks or tonics and if you return bottle you can get a small refund/discount on your next bottled drink . That being said this idea of cuisine is new and original and as more people feel the need to be healthier for whatever reasons they will continue to exsist.

A tiny café on custom street. very easy to miss! With only one table, most people come for takeaways. They serve raw food from lunches, dessert to juices and coffees. If you get their 250ml bottle drink, you can bring back the bottle and get $ 1 off your next purchase =) Their cabinet desserts looks amazing but quite pricey, $ 9 for most cakes. So I only tried the ginger slice, its really nice and gingery!

Things that are dangerous: 1. Knife throwing 2. Cliff Diving 3. Me inside little bird unbakery. Yes, the three above cater to varying aspects of danger, but flying over cliffs vs. spending an entire week’s paycheck in mere minutes are both quite perilous activities. CBD’s version of Little Bird is a bit different than the others. They cater to grab-and-go(space is tiny and everything is pre-made), although they do have one dine-in table. The upside? No more long waits! The downside? Less variety(no smoothies or coffee) and no place to ‘hang out’. The pre-made cold pressed juices/nut milks are DELICIOUS(but also $ 9-$ 14). If you’re gonna splurge, I would go for the Match & Mint milk. Heavenly. Besides the ‘squeezery’, they have breakfast and lunch options(chia pudding, raw grawnola, bagels, bird bowl, wraps) and of course their gorgeous raw sweet treats(the ginger slice is my addiction). The portion to cost ratio for the lunches are a bit out of hand, but I would recommend stopping in for a small indulgence. They are also open till 6:30PM weekdays(5PM weekends) which is, like, the latest café opening hours in AKL. So very exciting.

I was on my way to Shaky Isles for an after lunch coffee fix when I passed by Little Bird. It’s so small, it’s easy to miss! Thankfully I did a quick double take up the steep stairs and was lured in by its quaint charm. I just grabbed a pre-bottled cold brew coffee in a milk-bottle jars with their cute branding on it(bonus: reusable glass jar that now holds my to go home brew coffee!). It was delicious, packed the perfect amount of punch, and was the price id expect — I’d say maybe even a little modest given I get to keep the cutie milk bottle. I didn’t get a snack, but everything looked so good that I grabbed a menu to peruse. I’ll definitely pop down to Little Bird next time I’m at my desk and need a little something to eat and a coffee or cold pressed juice.

I love Little Bird’s philosophy — raw, organic, health-giving meals — and think that Megan May is a genius but their prices for takeaway salads in Britomart are preeeeetty steep. $ 14.50 for cold courgette pasta w rocket & parmesan? $ 18 for a bird bowl salad? I don’t know many people who could justify those prices for a takeaway salad! Prices aside, the food is delicious. The Britomart Store also stocks both the Little Bird products(try the macaroons — hard to believe they are healthy) and other products that fit in line with their ethos. Definitely worth checking out and if not picking up a salad, then trying one of their sweet treats.

Cute small nest in the CBD– have not yet had a chance to visit the original in Kingsland or other unbakery in Ponsonby– but this was a great start. Definitely know now that I have to visit the others now for a sit in. Great ethos of fresh, healthy, raw and organic with the additional dietary perks of vegan, gluten free and dairy free for those who need it. Awesome because it’s such a sweet treat but you don’t have to feel the often accompanying guilt that comes with finishing desserts. A communal table to one side with a fridge and cabinet selection of their assorted raw goods– from slices, cakes and savouries as well. Drinks-wise– they have cold-pressed juices and coffees amongst other interesting things. They also have a floor to ceiling display of stock they sell to supplement a lifestyle in healthy. Best stop for raw treats

It seems the new trend is raw food and Little birds does it with perfection. I haven’t had the chance of trying their lunches yet but everytime I go grab a snack(desert!) I don’t leave that place disappointed. Their cookies are amazing and their ginger slice… cannot describe it. It feels good for a sweet tooth like me eating all these goddies and not feeling bad because they are also healthy(yay!). I only gave it 4 stars because it kind of expensive, but still good.

I just tried out the newly opened Little Bird Unbakery on Customs St, and while everything was beautifully presented, I was put off by the price. The tiny café — an offshoot to the larger Ponsonby and Kingsland stores — has about four seats but is better suited for a takeaway weekday lunch, with the food already packaged into take-out containers. There was an interesting selection of salads and things like Mexican wraps, all following the raw and vegan Little Bird philosophy. However, there was no description of what was in any of the meals, which meant we(and the people in front and behind us) had to painstakingly ask what was in each. My ‘bird bowl’ salad was tasty, with half an avocado, some kale, sauerkraut and quinoa — but at $ 18 I was expecting to be blown away. My friend said her lettuce-wrapped banh mi was nice, but a logistical nightmare to eat with the one lettuce leaf not enough to contain the contents, which ended up down her work outfit(but just missed the white shirt, phew!!). The cakes all looked beautiful, but a stretch for the budget at about $ 9 a slice. Overall, we thought the food is unusual and appetising; just too expensive for a regular lunch.

Earlier this year, Little Bird Organics announced that they would be opening a third unbakery in Britomart. I was really excited about this as I work in the CBD, which makes it more convenient to get my raw/vegan/health food fix during the working week — bonus! They are serving the same dishes as their Ponsonby and Kingsland stores, just a smaller selection. For breakfast, you’ll find chia bircher muesli, chia bowls, raw bagels, and even mousse! For lunch, think pad thai, bibimbap and bird bowls. And last but not least, their amazing raw vegan desserts — slices, cheesecakes, cookies and tarts. The only difference is that everything is served in takeaway containers. As well as their delicious food, they are also serving their new range of cold pressed juices, plus nut milks and tonics. These are all bottled, so are easy to grab while on the run! You can also purchase a range of their goodies, including their raw macaroons(so so good), homemade ‘grawnola’ and savoury crackers. I visited early this morning in search of breakfast and to also try one of their new cold pressed juices. What immediately caught my eye was the space. It is very small, but the design is brilliant. Light, airy and colourful — plus a whole wall of Little Bird’s packaged goodies! There is one small table with a bench seat and two stools, so really this unbakery is designed for takeout. I ordered the beetroot juice($ 9) and a chia bircher muesli($ 12, with coconut yoghurt, goji berries and berry chia jelly). The juice was very refreshing and the chia bircher muesli was one of the healthiest and tastiest breakfasts I have had in a long time. The berry chia jelly was my favourite component of the dish — so delicious! Overall, I really enjoyed my morning at Little Bird Organic’s new unbakery in Britomart. I think the most exciting thing about the unbakery would have to be their opening hours. They are open 7 days from 6.30am to 6.30pm(some nights later), making it the perfect place for an early morning juice, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or even a quick and healthy dinner before a workout! Highly highly recommend!
