An overall 2 ½ stars is GENEROUS, to say the least. Don’t let the lobby fool you, it is the only nice part. ANYTHING up from there is an adventure back to the 80’s. Added touch is the smell. Stay away, Far Away.

The Mercure has a great locality, right in the heart of Britomart, but it’s a bit jaded. The rooms are small, the bathrooms are out-dated, and the TV didn’t work properly! On the Saturday night we stayed, none of the toilets in the hotel were flushing!!! Apparently they had had plumbers working their way up the building all day, but when we arrived home after a night out, a letter had been pushed under our door saying the problem was still not resolved! The restaurant & bar on the top floor has great views. But I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

This is one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed in. I travel for business all over the world. Paint is peeling off the walls and window sills in the room. Dingy setting, air conditioning is inadequate and noisy. Rug is SOOLD. Furntiure mis-matched. Bathroom tub scary, if you don’t watch out could cause a bad accident. But the WORST problem of all is the internet connection. You have to pay for it. $ 30NZ per 24 hrs. That is the most I have paid for service in any part of the world. I don’t mind paying when it WORKS! But here it doesn’t work, is slow and disconnects. As a business traveler, how bad is that? So I wouldn’t stay here EVERAGAIN!!! Just horrible!

The Mercure Hotel is excellently situated in the Auckland CBD. It is close to Britomart Transport Centre and is also a few meters away from restaurants, shops, bars and clubs. It is perfect place to stay for someone who is traveling and wanting to explore Auckland. I stayed at the Mercure for one night when I was after a good night in the city. Not wanting to drive or pay a crazy amount for a taxi, I checked into the Mercure. I was able to buy dinner at a restaurant on Queens Street, bring it back to my room, eat my dinner while enjoying some TV then got ready. After that I headed up to the top floor of the hotel where the bar and restaurant are located for a few drinks with some friends. When I was shattered from all the dancing, all I had to do was walk for a few minutes and I would be in bed.
