Great service. Good serving sizes. Nice food. The olds love the seafood chowder. I would recommend popping in for a coffee or a wine if you’re in the area and not hungry.

Came for coffee, but ended up ordering iced mochas on my daughter’s recommendation. We had a good seat by the big open window and the mochas hit the spot. Nice surprise to be offered a topup of our drinks. Thought we must have been special but Chelsea, our waitress, said they do it for everybody. Give this place a try, I hear the pizzas are really good too.

Came here with a friend. It was a nice day and we definitely wanted to sit outside, but unfortunately it’s in quite a cramped location and there simply wasn’t enough outdoor seating. Fortunately, the interior is still quite nice and clean. The service was prompt and friendly throughout our stay despite it being pretty busy. Unfortunately, the food lets this place down. The lunch menu is quite limited, and the menu is a bit disorganised and unclear. The food wasn’t poor, but it didn’t stand out in any way, it was just competent. I didn’t really see(or later taste) anything that distinguished the dishes from something you could have gotten at any other café on the Shore. The Montrose Breakfast was pretty standard. The mushrooms were done well, but the eggs had an overcooked, rubbery texture and saltiness was an issue. The risotto was presented well, but slightly too dry for my taste, and lacking a bit in flavour. It would also have been nice for salt and pepper to be placed at the tables. The main problem, though, was that the portion sizes were too small. We both ended up having to have what could probably be best described as a second lunch elsewhere because we were still hungry afterward. Given the price range we both expected something better and/or something more. Pros: Good location, lots of parking, friendly staff, nice interior, beach close by. Cons: Food was average at best and portions were quite small, menu, especially at lunch, is quite limited, and not nearly enough outdoor seating.

Wow. I just came across this wonderful little gem tucked away in the heart of Mairangi Bay. I’m sure it often gets overlooked as it is only a couple doors down from the popular Paper Moon café & deli. The interior décor is contemporary & cozy. I was immediately greeted by a friendly woman. I grabbed a newspaper near the fireplace & was prompty informed that was yesterdays copy & if I would like to read today’s paper! I ordered the lunch sized lamb salad & a side of kumara fries. I was offered a free fluffy for my son, which came out with a marshmallow smiley face :) The food came out within 10 minutes & the lamb was perfectly cooked(medium rare) succulent & tender. Possibly a bit too seasoned with salt since it was in a salad with kalamata olives and feta cheese, but delicious anyways. I will definitely return, 5 out of 5 for a fantastic all around experience at Montrose!

I could rave about this place forever! Great seating either inside in the cosy surroundings or outside under the powerful heaters. Awesome location — a two and a half second walk to the beautiful Mairangi Bay beach! Wonderful food… a wide variety of dishes that are all scrumptious. FANTASTIC deserts… I couldn’t live without the Montrose Crème brûlée! Excellent service… We once even got a free plate of chips when a large group of us gathered and ordered drinks and nibbles. Good selection of wine, beer and cocktails. Yummy coffee and tea. Live entertainment that sets up a great atmosphere. Really this is the defination of a great experience! Get down there ASAP and check it out for yourself.
